Have you been bitten by the photography bug and want to invest on a great digital SLR?

We recommend the Nikon D5000. The D5000 kit is available at Amazon UK for £516.92.

The Nikon D5000 is a well balanced camera that does excellent in size, weight and price.

We warn you after your purchase of a Nikon D5000 you will have the following conditions:

1.Find every weekend excuse to go on mini excursions including photogenic Chinatown, the zoo, the local park, that neighbour’s garden with amazing flowers, etc.

2.The mini excursion may progress to full fledge photography excursion to exotic places like Cambodia!

3. Start a Flickr account and start stalking others in Flickr.

4. Become a fan of photo geeks like Ken Rockwell

5. Check in everyday on the latest news and reviews in camera.co.uk

6. Spend a lot of money on equipment.

7. Spend a lot (and I mean a lot) of time talking about photography.

Just giving you a warning on what’s in store for you when you take photography as a hobby.

So why do we recommend the Nikon D5000?

Well you can pay more for other higher end cameras but you’ll just waste money because it won’t make your pictures any more better. The Nikon D5000 is less heavier and the features are easier to operate and understand.

Save your cash for other camera equipment, like a good zoom lens or a flash.

The Nikon D5000 has the same key aspects as Nikon high end models like the D90, this includes the image sensor, Live View and HD movie recording.

WHAT IT HAS TO OFFER

The Nikon D5000 gets an upgraded CMOS sensor of 12.3 megapixel (the D40 used to have 10.2).

Same as the higher-end D90, the D5000 also has the same base sensitivity range of 200-3200 ISO with Lo-1 and Hi-1 options extending it to 100 and 6400 ISO respectively. It also features a vibrating low pass filter (for sharper images) and Nikon’s Airflow system for less dust problem.

The D5000 is a quiet camera and is reviewed as being as quiet as a Leica rangefinder. This is an important feature especially when you want to do travel and street photography in which discreetness is a big factor.

The Nikon D5000 digital camera is the first Nikon DSLR that’s designed to have a swivel Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen. This feature allows the photographer to shoot more freely as the term “Vari-angle” suggests. One disadvantage of owning the Nikon D5000 digital camera is that you need to make use of AF-S lenses for the auto-focus function to work at its best since it is not equipped with an AF device.

Nikon 5000 photo quality

QUALITY OF THE PHOTOS

The imaging pipeline of the the D5000 is similar to the D40 (which Nikon stopped making). It

use a 12-bit analogue-to-digital conversion and an EXPEED processor similar to the D300.

What allows is to have great photos are feature like the lateral colour fringe correction.

Added features of the D5000 include soft filter, Perspective Control options in the Retouch section, Colour Outline and a 16:9 and 1:1 trimming options.

SPEED

The shutter block of the D5000 is for 100,000 cycles which you can do continuous shooting but it would be as quick as the higher end models. You’re just learning though so you don’t need a fast camera, you need a great camera that takes great photos, the Nikon D5000 lives up to that.

MOVIE MODE

You can record video with the D5000 but to a limited degree. It uses mono sound and has average video quality. You might also have a hard time focusing while shooting. But you’re buying a DSLR not a camcorder. So the D5000 still does the trick with taking great pictures.

IN A NUTSHELL

If you’re a beginner and want to get to serious hobbyist of photography get the Nikon D5000, it’s the lightest and smallest DSLR but has great technical image quality similar to the D700 under good lighting.

Thinking of dabbling in photography? We’ll help you shop for your digital SLR.

In the class of digital SLR, there are two brands that reign supreme – Nikon and Canon. Nikons are mostly used by journalist and travel photographers because they take good pictures of landscapes.

Nikon has launched yet another Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera that will cater to those who seek high quality and usability: the Nikon d70. A well-designed, complex as still very simple to use, this DSLR was patterned after its predecessor, the Nikon d70s, but with redefined and more elaborate features.

With function being its main selling point, the Nikon d70 is not necessarily an eyesore but its design has a more “professional” feel to it than “cute”. Particularly designed for persons with large hands, this camera is chunky because of the rubberized hand grip that is properly contoured so users can get a tight hold of the camera while shooting. The design was made to make the four fingers of the hand sit on the grip while one clicks on the shutter. The slightly larger size of the camera body also allows over 25 camera functions to have a place in its exterior and in this fashion making it look organized and very efficient to use.

On top of the camera is where a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel is positioned, which displays a total of 22 settings that could prove very handy to the user. Other than that, an additional set of 16 settings can be found in the camera’s viewfinder. All these comprehensive details are especially helpful to those who do not have much experience with DSLRs. This just goes to show that sometimes too much information is never too much. One minor thing that sets it back is the sound that the shutter button makes when released. Since the sound draws unnecessary attention, using the Nikon d70 digital camera for close-up portraiture can be a bit bothersome.

Given that it offers roughly a whole lot that is necessary for photographers and enthusiasts, the Nikon D70 digital camera is considered to be a good investment. DSLR first timers will certainly be keen on the camera’s easy handling and functionality, and of course the high quality images that the Nikon d70 camera produces.

Nikon has always been a celebrated name when it comes to the camera industry. Ever since the manufacture of their first cameras in the year 1948, Nikon never looked back. In fact, the company has kept held its respectable reputation for pioneering the newest features that they equip their products high for years. The top-of-the-line products that they produce have earned them the trust of hardcore photographers and hobbyist alike.

Aside from the infamous Nikkor lenses, Nikon is mostly known for the wide range of Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras that they design to suit the various needs of their consumers. These digital cameras are a bit pricey but the image quality that you get with each shot will give you a good reason to sign up with the DSLR bandwagon.

Since they frequently release newer (and better) models, it is most likely for the older models to be phased out. At the present, this is the list of the top-quality DSLRs that Nikon continue to produce.

NIKON D3X DIGITAL SLR

Because it has almost the same features and layout as its predecessor, the Nikon D3X digital camera is often referred to as D3’s twin. Photographers who own cameras from the D2 series can easily relate to D3x’s design since the latter practically evolved from it. Primarily intended for well-lit shooting locations, the Nikon D3X can produce high quality images when used in studio and landscape photography. Its shooting speed is also commendable even with the standard Nikkor lenses.
