Wow, Flickr isn’t ‘royalty-free’ after all, not when the Queen decided to open an official Flicker account.

Queen Elizabeth II has a Flickr account that features historical photographs taken by Roger Fenton and Julia Margaret Cameron; their works are dubbed masterpieces of early British photography.

The Queen’s Flickr account is actually a minefield of historical images. It is also here that you first see around 600 images of the Royal Family and documentations of their royal engagement.

Buckingham Palace said they will continuously update the site with photos of royal engagements and events. Buckingham  Palace said “’In addition to contemporary images of The Queen and members of the Royal Family at work, the Flickr account features historic photographs from the current Royal Collection exhibitions at The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle and on loan to museums and galleries around the UK.”

Particular works that are fascinating include a 19th century  photo of Quenn Victoria amd Price Albert taken in 1854.
Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were known to have been ‘enthusiastic’ collectors of the ‘new art form’ of photography, said Buckingham Palace.
