We love Sony point and shoot cameras. Among all the digital compact cameras in the market our favorites are Sony and Canon but we will try to be pretty fair and unbiased when writing this Sony T99 digital camera review.
The Sony T99 is something we like. The Sony T99 is a fully loaded digital camera, it looks cool and the quality and built of the camera is something that Sony is known for and should be proud to be known for.
The Sony T99 is an ultra slim camera that sports a lot of features of typical point and shoot camera and more.
THE FEATURES
The Sony T99 has a 14 mega pixel image sensor and has 4x optical zoom. The Sony T99 sports Carl Zeiss optical lens and a BIONX image processor.
The Sony T99 digital camera has 3 inch touch screen LCD and it can capture the typical HD video capture.
Anyone can figure out the Sony T99 even technophobics. The ultra compact camera also sports all the Sony favorite features including Sweep Panorama shooting mode.
THE IMAGE QUALITY
The images that come out of the Sony T99 is high quality and though most of the control is fixed you can still get creative with the shots.
The Sony T99 digital camera is said to be even slimmer than a deck of cards which is amazing because you can stash it in your bag without any hassle. The lens is hidden in a sliding design so you do not have to worry about scratched lenses.
How is easy is it to use the Sony T99 digital camera? Well the 3.0 inch touch screen has all the controls and there are only 4 buttons on the body of the camera.
When you use the automatic shooting mode and try to capture outdoors, the Sony T99 will be able to produce high quality images with great texture, color and focus.
THE CONS
The cons? You might see some noise when you view the images 100 percent and some details may be blurred at 100 percent. However for printing 5 x 6 prints or posting it in the web the pictures turn out great and the cons are less noticeable.
Even the indoor photos taken by the Sony T99 digital camera can be described as excellent. This image quality holds true as long as you stick to ISO 80-400. Anything much higher and the details can change.
The Sony T99 also has an iAuto mode which takes great portrait shots with the camera’s excellent face detection system. Sony also uses a smile detection and anti-blink feature which can aid a portrait shot to become better.
TAKING VIDEOS
The video capture of the Sony T99 digital camera is pretty great as well. It really produces HD videos and uses Sony stereo for its sound pick up. The images are smooth although some noise may be present. The Sony T99’s touch screen makes everything easier and you can actually take decent home movies with this camera.

wouldnt buy it; wish i could return it
I really wish that I got my money's worth with this camera. The images come out very distorted, especially buildings. I travel and take pictures in different cities and the buildings always look like they're about to converge at the top instead of the lines going up straight. It might be due to the panoramic feature of the camera. Either way, I bought the camera in the US but am not living in Italy and obivously they do not have BestBuy stores here and I can't return. Definitely do not buy this camera is you think you'll have an issue with distortion.
Great Camera
I bought this camera to take with me on a trip to Las Vegas. It is small enough to fit in your purse and I knew I wouldn't want to lug a large camera around with me in Las Vegas. I have had none of the problems of the other reviewers. My battery lasts quite long -- at least an entire day of shooting because I would go back to my hotel and recharge but the battery never ran short. And I took a pretty large amount of photos. I also did not notice any distortion of any of the shots. They were clear and sharp and the colors were also great. I especially love the panorama scanning feature. I took several of those of the Las Vegas skyline. All in all, this is a great camera for the price.
Excellent camera for teenager
Great Xmas gift for my daughter. She loved it, great functions. Down side only, doesn't stamp date on picture.
love this camera
i got this camara for christmas and i love it! the pictures are great and so clear. it is a little complicated at first to get familiar with on how the camera works and where each feauture is but its not that hard and once you know everything its so easy. i also love the sweep panaroma. definitely worth it.
It takes great pictures if you have time to wait
The pictures are great quality, but its so slow. the features are confusing the touch screen is horribly slow. when i'm taking pictures with friends they don't want to wait for my camera to decide how it wants to take a picture. if you want a camera, just for scenery use this is a really really good option. but if you want to take pictures in the moment and capture it really quick, this is not the right camera. i LOVE the panorama, it makes things look so much better. macro mode is great too.
Average Camera
I have owned a couple cybershot cameras previously and have had a great experience with them. I was excited to purchase this new model, however I am disappointed in the picture quality and use of the panoramic feature.
Nice camera - does all I need it to do!
This camera does everything I need it to do. It takes nice photos, it is thin, fits easily in my pocket, it is light, and as a bonus, it looks really nice too! It also takes panoramic photos and has a nice large touchscreen display - which is easy to use! Just remember to buy a memory card! Only thing to watch out for is that I have gotten a part of my finger in the photo a few times - but that will happen if you want a a compact camera like this.
Great all around Camera
Had an older one, had to get a new one. Love them that much.
Works nice
Purchased to give as a gift - good match. Nice features, but not so many as to overwhelm. Good resolution. (PS - purchased a 2nd battery on-line - at about 1/5th the local price)
Great camera with small catch.
The camera is good until you need 3 inches screen view, if you want all the view in the screen you have to reduce the megapixel to 11 and lose quality on 14 available. Bottom line, about 2.5 inches screen view and 14 megapixel or 3 inches and 11 megapixel.
Excellent Camera- Go for it
I did good research before buying this camera and I am very happy with my purchase. This camera is really excellent. I gave picture quality 4 out of 5 because i think it still have margin for improvement. best part of it, you can use almost any media card and not just Sony memory stick. I am using my old SD card and its works grate.
DO NOT GET THIS CAMERA!!!!
I got this camera for Christmas and it is the worst camera I have even owned. I have had 5 sony cameras in the past and none of them were as bad as the T99. This camera could do nothing right. The indoor and outdoor picture quality were terrible, most of my pictures were blurred, and any image that was near the edge of the frame was severely distorted. The T99 also stretched out the faces of people in my shots. The flash was also a problem. It made things very white and made the colors unrealistic. It also picked up dust in the air, causing white dots to appear in almost all of my indoor shots. The touch screen also lagged after a few days of use. It took way too much time to change settings when compared to a camera with buttons on the side. I returned the T99 for the sony DSC-WX5B and I am much happier. This camera may look very sleek but if you are someone who values picture quality, DON"T BUY THIS CAMERA!
Touch screen camera
I was looking for a replacement camera with a Paint feature- where you can draw over a picture. This is the only one I could find with that option, partly because it has to be a touch screen camera. I found this camera finally. There are not many affordable touch screen cameras on the market. I would reccomend this camera. Try the paint feature out!!
Wondeful package, lousy photos
Summary: I love the interface and mechanical design, this camera makes it very easy to access the most used features. The manual needs to explain which features are available in which modes, the manual just lists all the settings without clearly stating where they are applicable. The photo quality is just not acceptable, 5MB photos taken with this camera look to me no better than 300k compressed photos. (I bought this T99 because the old T90 took great pics and ok movies, but T99 does not have even close to the same photo quality). The outside of the camera has a sharp edge all the way around the front, which doesn't give the feeling of quality, but this is not a show stopper. I have large fingers which make touch screens a challenge, but no problems with this camera, the touch screen works great. The camera takes lousy photos. I brought the T99 back, store staff very surprised at complaint of poor quality on a Sony. One associate looked at my pics on a PC in the store and agreed that the quality was poor. They convinced me to try another T99 in case the first was defective (actually, staff opinions were split on this, but I decided to try another T99 anyway). I got the same results with the second T99. After researching reviews, I decided to spend about $100 more and get the Sony DSC-TX9. Success! The DSC-TX9 is an awesome camera! No one can believe the great picture quality, and the features are even better layed out than the T99. There is always a movie icon present, just touch it and you are filming a movie, hit the shutter and recording is eneded. Hit the shutter again and you are taking still shots! No more "oops, I forgot i'm in movie-mode". And the TX9 panarama stiching is so flawless it's scary! So if picture quality is important, forget about the the T99- it sucks. Instead find the extra money and get the DSC-
Great camera if you like touch screen easy use!
Easy to use and offered at a great price. It creates great images that can be downloaded within seconds. Overall, great camera for a great price!
Good camera for the money
Been using this camera for awhile now. Works well and does what I need it to.
Fun to play with at sporting events
The panorama feature is cool. Touch screen is easy to use but like all cameras with all the features can get confusing. Fun first time camera. Also nice is that you don't use AAA or AA batteries but its own rechargeable battery
Great Product!
I was looking to replace an older Sony Cybershot that I had (this will be the third I have purchased.) I read the reviews and had mixed feelings about trying out this camera based on the reviews. I decided to try it anyway, and man am I glad I did! I gave this 4 out of 5 stars because it is a little expensive for the price that I paid ($240). The picture quality is everything I hoped for - very clear and crisp. One review I read said that it took forever to actually take the picture once you hit the button (I think this was user error, as mine works well. It takes a half second for it to pop up, but I wouldn't call it slow). I also read that the touch screen was slow and not very responsive. The touch screen feature isn't like that of an ipod or ipad (not quite as fast) - it takes about a half second for it to register what you've touched, and you have to actually push what you want to select (you can't just barely touch it). Finally, the features are amazing! It has so many cool things like the panorama mode (works amazing by the way). It also has features where it will detect not just smiles, but it will focus on getting a child's smile if you want. And we all take pictures of ourselves where we hold the camera out in front of us right? Well now, there is a mode where you tell it you're doing that and you don't even have to push the button - it just waits for you to smile and it takes! (You can set this up for one or two person as well, which is a great feature.) And that's just the beginning of the features!
Nice Camera.
I'm a Realtor and bought this camera for taking photos of houses along with typical social picture taking. I think the pictures are great and I haven't had any issues. The 16:9 (only 11 megapixels in this mode) feature is great for taking shots where you need a wide angle photo. The panoramic feature does what it says it does, stitches together very nice and makes for a cool feature to show off. One thing I don't like in panoramic mode is you must travel left to right for a complete 180 degrees. If you want to do a short panoramic shot it won't work (hope that makes sense). The touchscreen is responsive but not super fast by any means and eliminates all the buttons which I like.
Not good for a beginner or anyone
The battery in this camera is no good, I was out with friends and I fully charge the battery and it died when I only took about 40 pictures, I was so dissapointed because I couldn't get pictures of some important moments. This camera is more like a phone camera with a flash, my older Sony 7.2 MP works a lot better and easier for anyone including my kids to use. I'm thinking about getting one of those if I can return this camera.
