Sony is committed in always surprising the techie freaks and gadget heads. So the Japanese technology icon just upped the game in the prosumer camcorder market with the Sony NEX-VG10, the first interchangeable lens prosumer camcorder.

Aptly it coincides with the celebration of the Sony Handycam brand. The Sony NEX VG10 is the first Micro Four Thirds camcorder in the market but since Panasonic and Olympus called dibs first in that specific technology, Sony is dubbing their mirrorless camcorder NEX.

Who could possibly want this high grade Micro Four Thirds camcorder with a US$2000 price tag? Well just about everyone who wants to create high definition movies, travel videographers, commercial directors and all the video geeks.

Basically, in the video department, it’s giving Canon 7D a run for its money. Remember that the entire season finale of House was shot on a Canon 5D? Imagine what this prosumer HD camcorder can do!

In spite the Sony NEX-VG10 being filed under the NEX brand, the camcorder functions much like the Sony Alpha NEX series.

The Sony NEX-VG10 camcorder has 14.6 mega pixel APS HD CMOS sensor. The camcorder is also capable of capturing 1080i video at a higher 24mbps bit rate.

Audio wise the Sony NEX-VG10 camcorder has the mouthful ‘Quad Capsule Spatial Array Stero Microphone’ which basically uses four microphone for better channel separation and canceling of noise.

Videos and stills can be composed with the 3 inch swivel electronic viewfinder. It accepts E-mount and A-mount lenses so you have a lot of options for lenses.

The only downside is that Sony NEX-VG10 camcorder has no internal storage but it  is compatible with SD and MemoryStick storage.
