Canon EOS Rebel T2i and lens

As Canon introduces its new EOS Rebel T2i, a digital SLR (DSLR) with excellent high definition video capabilities, the question becomes ‘Is movie making the next trend in the photo world’?

CANON EOS REBEL T2i HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO

Arguably the most popular camera company says so. Canon is banking on high definition video capture as the new movement in digital imaging with the new EOS Rebel T2i.

The latest premium entry level digital SLR (DSLR) aims to empower ‘still photographers’ with the ability to learn, capture and play with stunning high definition video using Canon’s wide range of creative lenses.

The Canon EOS Rebel T2i boasts of full HD video at 1920×1080 resolution with complete manual control. The Rebel T2i video has selectable frame rates, manual exposure option and a choice of interchangeable Canon lenses. Hobbyist foraying into videography can also manually control video exposure similar to the setting of a still camera.

Comparable to what the pro photographers/ videographers use, novice in digital photography can utilize creative lighting, adjustable images and video footage. These are tools which the new Rebel T2i gives to budding video enthusiast can really spark a whole new trend.

THE CANON REBEL T2i BOOSTED FEATURES

Whatever video features the Canon EOS Rebel T2i has it is first and foremost an excellent entry-level DSLR. It has an 18 mega pixel CMOS sensor, a 3 inch 3:2 LCD and a 63-point iFCL metering system similar to it’s expensive brother, Canon’s EOS 7D. The Canon latest Rebel model’s continuous shooting rate has been upgraded to 3.7 fps . This means better photos in your child’s football game.

The bracketing range of the Rebel T2i is now +/- 5 stops, which will no doubt please High Dynamic Range (HDR) enthusiasts. This  allows users to experiment with their exposure.

The Rebel T2i now supports SDXC (SD eXtended Capacity) cards as well as the usual SD and SDHC. SDXC is a new kind of SD card that is poised to have a 2TB (2048GB) capacity. This means full length cinema movies can really be recorded in your DSLR camera.

Of course the SDXC technology is still being refined but Canon’s allows for the memory card’s integration in the near future.

CANON REBEL T2i IN A NUTSHELL

May be DSLR are gonna still be primary used as still cameras for now. However the Rebel T2i shows that Canon is a trendsetting giant and video imaging’s popularity will be felt soon.

Canon’s Rebel T2i may be the most capable, (at least on paper), DSLR on the market with a reasonable US$799.99 tag price. It gives older and more expensive models a run for their money. The image quality lives by the high standards Canon is known for and the Canon Rebel T2i .

The Digital Rebel T2i looks like the most capable DSLR in the market at its price point and even has more features than expensive models. There’s little doubt that image quality fits perfectly with the standards of Canon’s great reputation. This camera is probably the reigning ultimate rockstar among the DSLRs of its class.

Great Camera

5 stars

My first Digital SLR. Just got it. Have only had one chance to take a few pictures from my patio - birds and squirrels, and my puppy dogs. Pictures are great even with these moving subjects. I will be using it on my Alaska Cruise. Just can't wait. Have a friend with last year's model of same camera and her pictures are fantastic. Would only have a Canon. For me Canon has proven to be the best over the many years that I have been interested in Photography as a hobby. I presently have 5 Canon cameras. No other brand that I have owned compares.

Awesome camera!

5 stars

I have previously owned the 40D and Rebel XT and still own the SD800 IS (also purchased from Best Buy). I am thrilled with this camera! I purchased it as a kit with the 18-55 and 55-250mm IS lenses. The image quailty is superb, video is very sharp even handheld in low light using my Canon 50mm f1.8. Buy it - you won't regret it! Sample photos were shot using the EF-S 55-250mm IS lens, the photo of the wedding set was shot with the same lens with a Raynox DCR-250 added for extreme magnification.

Great camera for the price

5 stars

For the price it would be hard to beat this camera for what it does. I could complain that the lens does not auto focus when in video mode but currently nothing in this range does. The video shot with the standard lens is amazing. The pictures are great too. I was very surprised at the quality the standard lens had. Add a lens or two to your line up and there is not much you can't do. Plenty happy with the purchase.

Great camera

5 stars

The camera is very light and easy to handle. It is very easy to use, of course right now we are just using the basic features. I haven't even tried the movie feature yet. I think if I had it to do over again I would have bought just the camera body and purchased a different lens with a bigger zoom. The battery seems to last forever and downloading to my MAC was as simple as it can be. We love it so far. I hope its durability is as good as its ease of use!

Unreal Camera for the money

5 stars

I researched and researched before I bought this camera. I went with canon over the Nikon because you get more mega pixels, with higher video quality and a cheaper price. I own a canon XL2 video camera and the video quality of this Rebel 2ti is significantly better. The photos are AMAZING. However, the video isn't as good as I hoped it would be. 1 reason may be because I don't have the correct class of SDHC card. So I notice weird lines in the video. I really think this is because my card can't handle the data fast enough. So spend the extra money and get the right card. Make sure it is 32GB or more too. The images though are amazing and it handles night shots like nothing I've ever seen. Very little graininess. Superb under street lights or in well lit areas in the dark. Also zooming in and zooming out in video are driven by the lens, there is no zoom button like on a video camera, so this opens the risk of camera shake or tilting images and is a big pain in the neck and takes some practices but the shots you can get with varied lenses are unparalleled. The built in microphone is pretty amazing too, it was a nice surprise. Long and short, I love this camera and I am SO glad I bought it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE!

Great Camera, HD Video is superior to camcorders.

5 stars

This camera takes superb pictures but it really shines when it is used for HD Video. I have a Sony HD camcorder and the T2i blows it out of the water with it's HUGE sensor compared to the tiny one on pro-sumer HD Camcorders. I can tell you that you will notice the difference right away. You wont have to carry around 2 things anymore (DigiCam and Camcorder). Just leave than tiny sensored camcorder at home! Pictures are true to life and colors are great. 18mp prints poster sized pictures. I like it.

I Had the canon 50 d and returned it when i heard about the t2i and had to have it. This camera is amazing! The picture quality is great and the Hd video an added bonus. The price makes it even better. Canon has yet again released a great camera!

Great pictures, bad video out-of-the-box.

4 stars

I originally bought the ti1, then when I heard the t2i was coming out I returned the ti1 and got the t2i. Initial impressions? Awesome pictures of course! And that's what I got the camera for. Now, the HD video is a major let down at least with the kit lens. I bought a SONY Hi DEF video camera (HDR-CX550V) few months back, and by FAR the SONY shoots way better video. When I read the initial reviews of the ti2 I was under this illusion that maybe finally we could carry around ONE camera instead of two... that day has NOT come with the Canon ti2. However, I am not too disappointed because I got this camera for pictures not video. BUT, I was hoping I could use the t2i as a 2nd angle video camera. That's not happening out of the box, sorry! I would give this camera 5 stars if the video was better. But it sucks in low light and is jerky as heck (hi def video) And I am using a class 10 memory card so can't blame it on that. If you do not have a hi def video camera then you probably can live with the video functions you do get with this camera. Just to let you know the SONY shoots HORRIBLE pictures. So to sum it up, if you want great results you need dedicated camera for pictures and dedicated video camera for video, that hasn't changed.

Great entry level with room to grow

5 stars

Canon is producing new cameras faster then many can keep up with. I had just purchased a Canon XSI, when a few days later the announcement came out for the T2i. Needless to say I returned the XSI and tried to wait patiently for this one. I have worked with this Camera over the last few weeks and absolutely love it. It is truly a "Baby 7D". The totality of all the features make this camera a great value. Buying it at BB with 0% and Reward Zone Silver makes for an even better value. I am excited by the opportunity to explore and play with the 1080p 30fps HD mode. There will be a bit of a learning curve with the T2i, but the end results will make it worth it I highly recommend this camera!

Best Camera I Have Owned

5 stars

I just purchased my Canon T2i and it is outstanding. I can see why a few people commented that the auto focus was noisy, but after a while you don't notice. With the capabilities of this camera I am completely satisfied. Two biggest complaints I have read are about the quality and the noise, and while I would love to have a metal body and a little quieter auto focus I am also not having to pay $1400-$1800. This is an outstanding camera, and the extended battery grip is a must - it adds a little more heft and grip if you have larger hands and there are a second set of controls and grip if you are taking pictures vertically.

Previous camera was a Rebel XT which I really enjoyed. However, the T2i is the next evolution in the lower Canon DSLR product line. The eash of use, HD movie function and fixed display screen make this an enjoyable camera to use.

Great camera even for a beginner!

5 stars

All I've ever had are point-and-shoot cameras and am not (yet) familiar with all the sophisticated and manual functions available. With a few simple settings (and without having to learn all about photography and without having to read the whole manual), I'm able to take spectacular professional looking seemingly HD pictures in "poiont-and-shoot" mode. I LOVE it.

Great Camera excellent pictures & video

5 stars

I purchased the camera on sale at Bestbuy.com for local store pickup at a price ($649), I have not seen quoted anywhere since. to replace a basic point & shoot. This camera exceeds in all areas. I am still learning all it's finer point, but in full auto, I have yet to take a bad picture. I also wanted a camera to record short videos and so far the video quality is excellent at 1080P. I also purchased a Cannon FES 55 - 250 mm lens with image stabilizer a few weeks later to increase options with picture taking. The closeup pictures, flash and auto focus all work extremely well. Overall this is an excellent camera and I would highly recommend it to consumers looking for more options then a basic point 8 shoot.

I haven't even begun to use all the features yet, but I really love this camera. It is my first DSLR and it is wonderful. The picture quality is excellent and the camera is pretty easy to use, even for a beginner. I was trying to decide between Canon and Nikon for an upgrade from point and shoot and I went with Canon T2i. It was a great investment and a good value. I've had the camera for 2 months now with no problems and great pictures right out of the box. The quality of the pictures is absolutely wonderful as well. I bought this camera in a bundle, and I feel that it was well worth the price.

Great camera even for a newbie

5 stars

This was my first SLR camera. I have been wanting one for years. I finally decided to take the plunge but I was hesitant because I was afraid of spending so much money on a camera that I didn't know how to use. Once I got it home I took a few minutes to learn some basic functions of the camera. I felt pretty good about everything and decided to try a few pictures. I was amazed at even the first picture I took of my dog. It had great detail and nice color. I took 30 or so more shots and out of those 30 shots I think I deleted 3 of them. I couldn't believe that it was pretty much point and shoot on most settings. I guess my point is don't be afraid of this camera. It is a easy to use camera that does most everything for you on the basic auto settings. Do I need to learn more about it and learn more advanced settings.... absolutely. For now though I am extremely happy that I finally bought this camera. I'm looking forward to learning more about it and the great features.

5 stars

I initially purchased this camera for the short films I'm writing at UCLA, but ended up falling in love with the image quality! Even with the kit lens, I was able to take excellent head shots of friends. It's a great camera for both starters and professionals. Use it with some basic editing software (iPhoto, etc.) and get some amazing color depth as well! Only downside is that it's very hard to get a good shot at night.

Excellent Camera

5 stars

Before buying a Canon DSLR I had only owned KODAK. I started off with a Z812i, which I loved. I decided to sell it and look for a little better one. I bought a KODAK Z980. The KODAKS are excellent Point -n- Shoot, but I wanted to make the leap to a DSLR. After a lot of research I found that some of my friends own Canon and preferred it over Nikon. I was torn between which camera to buy and over a few weeks, read articles, you tube video reviews, and asked friends what they thought. I've also seen pictures from the D3100 compared to the T2i and had to say that I really like the color quality on the Canon a lot better. Although the D3100 has some different camera editing that I would prefer to have on the Canon, I could do without. It wasn't important to me because I use my camera to take pictures and edit with Picassa. As for the screen, I like the fact that the Canon will turn-off automatically as you put eye toward the viewfinder, then come back on to show you the photo. The Canon T2i has excellent color quality and is so easy to use. I get a great picture most every time. You can't beat the 18 mega-pixels, though it's not too important unless blowing up a picture. I was worried about the buttons and everything being in different spots and thought it would be hard to adjust from Kodak to Canon but that was not the case at all. I'm pretty glad I made the switch, the ease of use was surprising and the manual covers everything you want to know or learn. I added the 55-250mm telephoto lens and the results are excellent. When buying a memory card, buy the fastest one available.

Great Camera For Photography Enthusiast

5 stars

Got the camera on sale which was a big plus. Canon has some of the best cameras out there in my opinion. It is easy to use. You can do still shots or HD video. If you want better sound you should invest in an external microphone. Canon has pretty good software that come with the Camera but I would recommend Adobe Photoshop. Definitely READ THE OWNERS MANUAL. Canon also offers public forum/seminars you can sign up for. I went to one in my area and learned a lot about photography. There is a fee for the seminars. Has some features the older high end Canons does not have.

Ok...so I just bought the T2i tonight. It came with the 18/55 lens and I purchased the 55/250 lens in addition to a high speed grade 10 memory card. After bringing it home I shot around 70 photos just playing around and was blown away with the detail in the shots! I purchased this camera because I will be taking a digital photography class in the spring and needed a replacement for my old 35mm slr camera. I'm not a professional photographer by any means...but so far I'm happy with this camera. There are a LOT of features on this camera and I have not even started to learn about them. So far...this is a great buy! I was going to purchase the T3, but after talking with the sales rep and reading lots of reviews and comparisons I decided to spend the extra $250 and get the T2i. I have attached one of the photos I took within minutes of having the camera out of the box. The photos are unedited. I will post another review once I can fully work through the features and get a better feel for the camera! **does save photos as very large files. Had to go in and edit photo size before I could upload it on here because it was larger than the 5mb limit.

Before buying a Canon DSLR I had only owned Nikon. I started off with a D3100, which I loved. I decided to sell it and look for a little better one. I was debating on buying a Nikon D5100 or D7000. After finding that the D7000 was just a bit too pricey for me and just couldn't afford it at the time, I looked toward getting the D5100. After a lot of research I found that some of my friends own Canon and preferred it over Nikon. I was torn between which camera to buy and over a few weeks, read articles, youtube video reviews, and asked friends what they thought. Although the D5100 has some in camera editing that I would prefer to have on the Canon, I could do without. It wasn't important to me because I use my camera to take pictures and edit with photoshop. As for the flip out screen, I did without it on my first camera and am doing just fine without it on this one. The Canon T2i has excellent color quality and is so easy to use. I get a great picture most every time. You can't beat the 18 megapixels, though it's not too important unless blowing up a picture. I was worried about the buttons and everything being in different spots and thought it would be hard to adjust from Nikon to Canon but that was not the case at all. Im pretty glad I made the switch.

I am by no means a camera expert. I had a friend, who is, recommend the Canon T2i. For what I wanted it is perfect. I wanted something beyond a simple point and shoot, but did not want a camera with a professional price tag. The T2i is pretty easy to start using right away. I have not ventured into some of the more advanced features, but soon will. If I ever have to buy another camera, I will definitely buy Canon again.

Great features, performance, price point.

I bought this camera based on features and recommendations from friends that have this and higher end eos models. I travel with my family to the kids sporting events, and used to pack along a video camera as well as a Canon EOS rebel XSI, tripods, extra batteries, and so on ... a real hassle. The EOS T2i has all the features I need to accomplish video as well as stills in one convenient package. The pictures and video quality are very good, and now travel is much easier. This is a great camera!

Great camera for beginner or pro!!!

5 stars

I absolutely LOVE this camera. I am just starting out as a professional photographer, even though I have been doing it for free for years, and this camera is AMAZING, I almost hate to edit any of the pictures that I take with it, and usually don't have to edit too much. The picture quality is absolutely AMAZING!!!! I definitely recommend this camera to anyone, the amateur, the pro, the "soccer mom". The continuous shooting is wonderful, you don't miss a thing. This is also my personal camera, and speed is EXTREMELY important to me with a 6 year old and a 7 month old, I don;t want to miss anything!!! I LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!! I suggest at least a 16GB memory card as well!!!

Takes great pictures

I really like it but have some trouble with the video mode. It slips out of record often. I have taken it back to the store and they recommend that I format the card and try again, that it might have bad sectors. I have done that and it happens still, but not as frequent. This one thing is a little irritating.

This was my first DSLR camera. I found it very easy to use. Didn't see any advantage beside the flip out screen on the T3i, so I got this one for less money. The camera takes great pictures, I highly recommend this camera! Make sure you get a memory card with a high write speed if you plan on using the video option. I bought a 30MB/s card and it works great. I bought a cheap filter to protect the lens as well.

Limited choice of picture file size

1 stars

Caution!! You CAN NOT take a picture smaller than about 1 MB with this camera, you can only take large file size pictures. This made the camera useless for me. Thank you Best Buy for exchanging the T2i for a camera that will take pictures around 150 to 300 KB as well as large file size pictures when needed.

The number of features packed into a DSLR is mind boggling compared to the old standard film SLR's. The T2i is my second Canon - upgrading from the Xsi to gain full motion video. If you need more camera than this, you are likely a professional shooter and will be spending $1000's more on a high end body. Between the Canon editing software, shooting in raw mode and the unlimited camera functions I cant imagine "needing" another camera - ever. Highly recommend this model.

I got this Canon T2i because I was tired of getting bad results with my point and shoot. I got the camera with a bundle also included, a 55 to 250mm lens, a Lowepro 202 slingbag, PNY 8GB card, all for under 1K. I was very happy with the great quility of pictures I am now taking with the t2i, although I did return it for the T3i because of the great features the T3i has for a mere 100.00 more (Slave flash feature, fold-out swivel lcd, and volume controll-and more features when shooting hd video) overall the T2i is a great camera, but for only 100.00 I found the added features of the T3i a better fit for me!

First I want to say that the associate that helped me with the purchase of this was great. His knowledge about the camera was excellent with all of the features. I had been researching for an entry level DSLR camera for over a year. Finally made the purchase of the Canon Rebel T2i and am very happy I did. After charging up the battery, took it to take pics of my daughter at her softball game. Absolutely love the way the pics turned out, they are so clear. Captured her in the sports mode and all were focused. I would recommend this camera to anyone starting out with a DSLR. Can't wait to learn more about the features and all this camera can do.

Finally transitioning from film to digital (as in not just a point and shoot), and I'm glad I picked out the T2i. I know the T3i is newer and has the flip-LCD screen but the T2i has otherwise the exact same statistics (AF modes, ISO qualities, etc.). I prefer to go all manual so I don't really use any of the preset modes, but I imagine they'd be useful for amateurs. The manual is very informative, and it's highly recommended that you read through it entirely. The kits lens included is satisfactory but the autofocus is a little bit slow and not always accurate (that's where LiveView and manual focus come in), so I'd recommend investing in another lens at the very least.

Great Product. I am happy with it for family use

5 stars

I bought this camera because we lost our other digital camera on vacation. I decided it was time to upgrade to a little nicer camera to take family pictures and portraits of our new born and his siblings growing up. I am very happy with the quality. I am not by any means a professional photographer, but with the auto focus and image stabilizer along with the 18.0 Megapixels, we get outstanding very clean clear HD pictures, and not to mention the 1080p video recording giving it a big plus to have when you want video to capture what a picture can't. The price is reasonable, around the middle of everything else I looked at, and happens to have most the features of the high end cameras. I would reccomend it to any families or amature photographers that want to have professional looking pictures to brag about. God Bless the USA and the US Soldier that Protects her!

Very good SLR camera. I didn't take any bundle with this camera. I'm a novice as photographer but during 2 hours I used by all functions and features of this "photo-monster". I like the picture quality and shooting speed. Just my recommendation: buy 32GB Kingston card memory with Class 10 to get good read/write speed for movies. Just I think the price is too high. Because card memory is not in package and its price ~$80. Just for girls the camera's weight is not good. But all other things are very impressive.

Overall Great Camera

This was my second purchase of a DLSR camera and I couldn't be happier with my choice. I am a photography student so my primary use for this camera is business and school. The controls are user friendly and has a verity of Auto shooting options for those that do not use manual controls. Quality of images are great as well. The one issue I did have was with the quality of the lens that came with camera. I purchased the "kit" which included both the body and lens. If I had to go back, I would of just purchased the body of the camera because I ended up buying a better quality lens after using the included lens for a week and not getting the images I was hoping to achieve. For those buying the camera for everyday family pictures or vacations, the included lens would work fine for that use.

I purchased this camera in February as my first DSLR. And let me say this camera is absolutely amazing. I love it. It is easy to use right out of the box, and even easier if you read the user manual. ;) I have taken over 30,000 photos and dragged my camera through everything and it has held up wonderfully. My only complaint is that the manual features are a little bit complicated but that is to be expected. The photos I take turn out crisp and clear. I absolutely love being able to shoot photo after photo in just seconds. That is probably my favorite feature because I shoot a lot of horses and I am able to get the motion with a clarity and not miss a second of the action. I would absolutely recommend this camera to anyone. I am very happy with the Canon EOS t2i!

This is my first D-SLR. I have not had enough time to use it but very impressed thus far. It takes great photos and provides you with ample control features! More than enough camera but to get your money's worth it takes a great deal of commitment! Only disappointment is that it did not come in a package deal and accessories (a bag or case, filters, cleaner, etc. ) add up very quick! The Nikons are just as good (my dad got the D3100 at the same time) and you get more bang for the buck!

I reviewed cameras until my eyes were bloodshot, and then reviewed some more. This camera had the best combination of available features to get creative with my photography, PLUS ease of use for my wife to point and shoot. The camera's ability to take sharp photos in low light has blown us away. OUTSTANDING! The video feature is a nice extra! And, after searching and searching, we were about to purchase elsewhere when we stumbled on the Best Buy online offer -- and paid less for the camera than anywhere else. It came quickly and has worked like a charm. 1500 photos taken on two SD cards on our first trip to Europe using the camera.

I've had this for almost a year, and since then its been a great DSLR! Excellent photo quality, many different ways to adjust on how you want the photos to come out. Superb HD video, also settings on quality, FPS, and color presets. Just make sure you buy a SDHC card that will be able to handle the camera, especially when taking HD video. The LCD screen has an amazing resolution!! So crisp, just hope you have a high-res monitor lol. The battery life is beyond what I would have expected. Not a problem for me. Plan on keeping for a long time, just need to buy a different lens, already have the PNY 32GB SDHC class 10 card. =]

Had been looking for a digital SLR for years, have loved my Canon AE-1 film SLR. It's been a work horse for over 30 years. But, the digital were always a little too high in price. With a daughter getting married this year, I finally took the plung, wanting to have the best possible pictures for her special day. Was between the Nikon and the Canon. Finally settled on the Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15 MP. The day I went to purchase on line at Best Buy, they no longer had them available. Ended up with T2i 18 MP. Only downside so far is the battery charger is bulky and in 2 pieces-tried to find a backup battery, and a different style, have not had any luck, plus stores do not carry the battery itself. Love camera itself so far even though I accidently erased a handful of test shots. Have not had much time to "play". Wedding is next week, will have more feedback then.

Awesome DSLR Camera

5 stars

This is my first DSLR. I've been looking at all types of DSLR cameras for at least 6 months before settling on the Canon T2i. I've been using point and shoot cameras with good results but didn't like the wait between shots. What attracted me to this camera was the high resolution 18MP, image stabilizer and 1080P video recording, plus all the features available with the camera. I bought the 55-250 IS zoom lens to go with the 18-55 IS lens and took the camera on our Florida vacation this past week. The image stabilizer was great. Even my wife and 9yo daughter were able to take sharp pictures. I took over 3000 photos on our week long trip. Most of which were duplicates. I got carried away with being able to take multiple shots repeatedly with the PNY 16GB Professional SDHC card which has write speed up to 20MB/s. It was on sale for 27.99. This card also allowed me to record videos at 1080P without stopping. All I can say is WOW. I'm having lots of fun with this camera. There are so many features that I have not tried yet. I will be buying a decent flash to go with the camera for low light shots.

This is my first DSLR camera and I am very happy with it. I am an amateur photographer and the picture quality is great for my uses. If you are already familiar with Canon cameras, it is a snap to use. I ended up purchasing a Tamron All-in-one lens to use with it. The user's guide is helpful in explaining the manual functions. I also purchased some beginner's books that gave more details. My favorite thing about this camera is the great quality photo I can take in low light conditions. This is something I could never accomplish with my point & shoot.

This is my first SLR since owning a Canon AE1 in the late 1980's. I have been wanting a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DLSR) for quite some time. The quality and price points have finally reached a level I could afford. I chose the T2i after researching many photography websites and viewing pictures and videos taken with this camera on sites like Flickr and Vimeo. The number of features and techniques that can be associated with this camera can be a bit overwhelming. If you are not familiar with how a DSLR operates, plan on spending a few weeks learning how to use this camera. You will be well rewarded if you do. I strongly recommend using only Class 6 or higher SD cards with this camera. You will be needing something fast to record the 1080p video. Trust me, once your see the output from the T2i, you'll be shooting a lot of video. Final thoughts. Great camera for pictures and video.

I compared both together and I really love the picture quality with the Canon Rebel T2i a lot better. Every since purchasing the Rebel T2i, it seems like the prices keep decreasing. I paid $850.00 for my camera and now it's down to $768. Wow!! What a big difference. However, I have bought several accessories for my new camera. Such as, External Flash, 32g memory card, 50-250mm lenses, 75-300mm lenses, Tripod, camera bag, I am so happy with this camera. I am really thinking of opening my own photographer business. PROS: I am not a professional photographer. Decided to pick this one from reading reviews and recomendation from a friend. Nothing bad to say about picture quality, infact people are asking if I am prof photographer based on picture quality it produces. For unprofessional photographers like me I would say one thing, "YOU WILL NEED TO READ A LOT ABOUT TECHNIQUES AND USAGE OF CAMERA" to get professional look pictures, offcourse preset settings are also sufficient for great pictures. Excellent short HD videos. I am thinking about doing photography business with this. CONS: One of the main reasons for me to buy this camera was to take my sons videos of his basketball games. UNFORTUNATELY this is not great equipment for that. It get's hot and auto shutoff recording in 15min or even less depending on the environment temperature conditions. I came to conclusion that best long video recording quipment is buying a "camcorder".

The most bang for my buck

5 stars

I used to really be into photography, and I got away from it for a few years. Now that I was ready to get back into it, my gear was really outdated, and I needed to start fresh. I had been looking at larger models of cameras (Nikon & Canon) that are considered "professional" level, but then I stumbled across the Rebel T2i. When I started comparing features side by side, the T2i was extremely comparable to the more expensive "pro" models. (The Rebel series is considered an "amateur" camera.) The only place where I seemed to be losing some performance was in the number of frames per second, and that was not a major pitfall for me. I actually gained a few megapixels over the other cameras I had been considering, which I liked. The new menu has been a little bit of a learning curve, but it is not bad. The 18-55 lens that came with it is fine for getting started, but a good wide-angle and strong telephoto will be must-have items. There are a few other accessories I consider must-haves- a screen protector, a battery grip, a few memory cards... the usual stuff. It was cheaper on Best Buy's website than in my local store, and they offered to price match it. I then found it even cheaper at a local camera shop, and Best Buy matched that price. Overall, it was a very good deal and the most bang for my buck considering that I'm starting from scratch again.

I have been using my Canon Powershot for years so when I decided to upgrade to a DSLR, I am very pleased with my decision to go with the Canon Rebel T2i. It has a great shape, weight, & feel. I highly suggest taking a DSLR class or reading the user's manual if this is your first DSLR. There are a lot of cool features with this camera but you need to learn how to use them to get your moneys worth. Battery Life is great. Kit lens is great.

Best Camera for the Money I Ever Purchased!!!

5 stars

Best camera all around with plenty of multi functions and of course the option of stabilized lenses and manual capabilities as well to be expected but in supreme form with this Canon D-SLR. I have had a hard time getting BAD pictures with this and actually it helped teach me to use it in full manual mode in not time even too. Inspiring with more lens capabilities than I could think of too!!! Did I mention the awesome HD quality video that you have with it too btw. Oh yeah it's all here and in prime shape for your needs.

Great all-around camera

5 stars

This is my first DSLR, purchased for a combination of family photos, general photography (like vacations/scenery), and photography to print for my art shows. My family has a long history of passion for photography, and I think we would all agree that great photography comes from the user, not the camera; however, having great tools in a huge bonus that gives you great flexibility! That said, this camera has great features, excellent low-light sensor, very easy for anyone to pickup and use, a fantastic view screen (higher resolution than the competing Nikon, which is very important when previewing for print!), good video quality, and it looks good and feels comfortable. Absolutely recommend it. Between this and the Nikon your biggest decision will be made by which is more comfortable for you, and this was just a better fit!

Gives the above amateur user a great chance to get used to the SLR camera. A great step up from the point and shoot camera. It is easy to learn to use and if you want to take your time using all the "pro" features, you can still put it on auto and shoot. When your ready, you can get and use all the Canon SLR lenses.

5 stars

I own a Pentax SLR film camera and a Sony CyberShot. Both are great cameras in their own right. I felt I was ready to go to the next level, which for me was a DSLR. I am so glad I took the leap. The Canon T2i is fast becoming my best friend. The manual is my next best. If you use a point and shoot digital camera and want to go further with quality and creativity, this is a fantastic camera to own.

I am a photography enthusiast, and have evolved to a 40D. When I felt I was missing more photos than I should, I decided to give this model a try. I have had so many more keepers and I would say that trade off of customization for image quality is worth it. The size is perfect for me, but others may find it small. Overall, great camera. You won't be disappointed.

Wonderful camera for beginner

5 stars

I've been playing with this puppy for a couple of months now and I am absolutely in love. There are a lot of things I don't know how to even use yet, but that makes no difference to me. The basic use is the same as the smaller cameras, such as the ELPH, so it's easy to catch on if you already own a Canon. So far it has worked great for me for extreme close ups (macro shots), and normal photography. I love the manual and auto focus settings, so no matter what I happen to be shooting, I can normally get the shot that I want. Only negative I have found is that there is no panoramic setting.

Since this was my first SLR camera, I did a lot of research on which camera was best in class for the under $1,000 and the Canon T2i continually came out on top no matter which review or interview I looked at. Now that I have it, I have been learning SLR settings and features coming from point and shoots, and I feel the features are very intuitive for a beginner.

Great camera for both family & business

5 stars

This camera has been such a great pick-up for both my family and also for the video production business I run. This thing is loaded with features, in fact it contains features that some of the 'pro' level Canon's don't have, like 60p video recording. It takes a little practice getting all the buttons figured out, but thankfully I've owned a film Rebel for years, so it came to me pretty quickly. If you're new to the Canon DSLR button setup, it might take a little time to get it all figured out. That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for Ease of Use. Having said that, if a family member just wants to get some very high quality shots without messing with the buttons, just put it in Auto mode and it does a great job. I'm really excited to put this thing into service with my video production company. It won't really work for long-form event videography because it can only record up to 12 minute clips at a time, but it will really shine in an interview situation or movie production. It's just great to be able to slap on any Canon lens and get the particular look you want. To sum up, this camera really blurs the line between a prosumer model and professional camera. It's got an amazing set of features, and the price is great for what you get. It's not built like a tank like the pro models, but if you take care of it like you should, it will do just fine. You can't go wrong with this model.

If you are currently a Canon owner, you will easily be able to navigate the controls. I use the manual setting to photograph my subjects, and the results are spectacular! The only downfall to these higher end camera's is that they do not have the moveable LCD screen that you find with the Canon SX20 IS.

Battery is lasting forever (for now). Great camera.

It takes a $1,000 more to get marginally better.

5 stars

I upgraded to this camera and lens from a Rebel XT. The XT was an awesome picture taking camera. I'm still out on the video part but I'm sure I will start to use it. The greater megapixels and the what has happened to metering and focusing systems since my XT allow me to take better looking pictures with more keepers that don't have to be photoshopped. The controls and menu layout are very easy to transition to after spending many years with a Rebel XT and I do feel this have improved too. For what you get it takes a lot more money to get marginally better. Another plus is the Rebel T2i is smaller than a full sized DSR and it fits my small hand perfect!

Amazing pictures and videos!

5 stars

For the last half of last year (2010) I had been researching cameras whilst saving up for one. I attend a lot of different motorsports events and I enjoy taking lots of pictures and videos so this was my main function for wanting a good camera for. Of course I've watched hundreds of videos created by others around the world and looked at thousands of pictures within different motorsports communities. I was sold on the T2i/550d after seeing several videos recorded with it, and the detail you can get from taking pictures with it. To me it seemed like a great choice; not only can I shoot amazing videos over the next coming years with it, but I can also dable into photography and learn how to take great pictures with it as well! So far over the last couple months this camera has done what I wanted out of it and then some. I've covered a few motorsports events, brought it with me on an airboat and four-wheeling trip in central Florida, and provided some amazing portrait pictures for friends and family. I have to say I've enjoyed everytime I've used the camera so far, so much so that I almost always have it on me day-to-day haha! If you're debating getting this camera or a higher end camera, I would recommend buying this camera and spend the extra money on a couple good lenses.

After struggling to find a camera to take clear pictures of my active kids, I finally found one that can capture the shot without motion blur. The pictures are phenomenal--even when really magnified for serious cropping. If you want to be able to use one-tenth of the features, however, you need to read the manual. (Seriously, this is not a point and shoot.) Couldn't be happier.

What a Great Camera for a Great Price

5 stars

For this price, you cannot go wrong. As a professional photographer, I did have a 5D, 10D, Rebel (300D) and G10. I recently upgraded to a 5D Mark II, 50D, Rebel T2i (550D) and G12. The Rebel T2i is the camera I typically hand off to my assistant to be a 2nd shooter at weddings and events. At first, I thought this was too "light" feeling and flimsy. However, after shooting with it for a while, I realized this is a great camera and its lightness means better portability. Some people poke fun at the 18-55mm "kit lens". So far, I am really impressed with the lens too. Again, it has a light-weight feel that makes one think it lacks durability, however, it is very sharp and performs wonderfully. Even in low-light situations, this relatively slow lens coupled with the T2i's high-ISO will produce sharp, clear images. (I shot a picture in a candle-lit room that had less noise than older cameras would have in outdoor low-ISO situations. Amazing.) I would recommend Class 8 or 12 SD cards if shooting 1080p video. Slower cards seem to produce jumpier videos. Spend the extra for good SD cards. The BestBuy PNY Class 10 card is working well for me thus far. Another feature Canon has in this camera is the custom menu. Those items that you use a lot, can be added to the custom menu. What I like about this is that it saves time fumbling around the menus during a shoot. I just set it on the custom menu and things like "format", and bracket settings are right there when I need them. One final thing, and this is more for the people at BestBuy... It would be nice for those of us prior-Canon owners if you would stock the dSLR bodies at your stores. Not everyone needs a kit lens, and not everyone wants to mail-order the body.

Pro level camera but not a pro level price!

5 stars

I opened a couple online stores for my jewelry and jewelry supplies and have been using a point and shoot Sony dig camera to take the pictures for the online listings but I was tired of not getting the pics I wanted and not having the control. I have been wanting to get a Canon 7D for a long time but never had the money lined up to do it, life kept getting in the way. Being a long time photographer I would have never even considered a Rebel for my needs until I found this baby. At first I was sure I was settling for something less that I wanted but this camera is amazing! It has the pro level features and technology at half the price. I wasn't sure about the lens either but the IS is AMAZING! The pictures are so sharp even with low light! I couldn't be happier and being a life long Canon fan I am sorry for ever doubting that even a Rebel would not be good enough. A great camera and lens for even a pro level photographer! So if you have a doubt because its a Rebel, forget it I am glad I saved 800 bucks and got it and I don't think I want that 7D now. :)

Excellent first SLR

5 stars

This SLR is an excellent choice for an entry level camera. It has so many features that the layperson will not be able to figure out, but the intermediate or advanced photography will be able to take full advantage of. The camera seems to be well-built and have a nice feel to it when you hold it in your hand. In addition, the selector knob on top is morse substantial than some of the earlier SLRs from Canon and is much easier to turn . The camera itself has an excellent LCD screen that is available with "live" view, which was missing on several of the earlier SLRs. 18 megapixels is ridiculous for a digital camera, but is very welcome to those of use that use photoshop or print poster-size pictures. The standard kit lens is just fine for most people to use, but if you take closeups or distance shots, you'll want to invest in some more lenses. for the price of the camera, it's packed with a lot of features, but it's still somewhat expensive. This is 2011 and the price of this technology should be dropping by a hundred dollars or so, just like everything else in the world's price (and salary) has.

Great Camera

5 stars

We love the T2i camera. It's our first DSLR and only considered the step up from a point and shoot since our first kid started crawling and walking, ie. blurry photos with a point and shoot indoors. The canon exceeded our expectations indoors and the colors and crispness are outstanding. We typically shoot photos with a quality setting set to 5x7 for conserving memory space, the detail is still great. We purchased a combo package that included the Canon 200DG bag, 18-55mm lens, and 55-250mm lens. The lenses work well and we're able to shoot in really low light with both lenses with low ISO settings and 1/30sec minimum speed. Our house had no overhead lights and relies solely on lamp lighting. The IS lenses help achieve these settings. As stated at the beginning, the color rendering is great, even indoors with lamp lighting and without having to manually adjust white balance. We also purchased a Lowepro Toploader Pro 70 AW bag for daily use. The bag is minimal for holding just the T2i with grip and the 55-250mm lens with about a half inch to spare. So the 70 AW is perfect if you are looking for a holster style smallest possible bag while still accommodating the largest kit lens. See review on amazon.com for more on the bag.

Great camera even for a beginner

5 stars

I did a lot of research and checked the reviews for the T2i and I am loving the camera and I am glad I bought it. it takes great pictures and is fairly easy to use. I read most of the user manual and found it to be a little hard to follow so I bought the Canon T2i for Dummies and that helped to understand and use the camera's features. I used point and shoots most of my life and was a little scared to upgrade even though I consider myself pretty tech savvy. I usually keep the camera on auto mode, but when I take photos close up I choose portrait mode and they are beautiful. I do wish a better lens came with the camera, it works well but it doesn't zoom as far as I would like, but overall the lens works well out of the box. I will upgrade to a better lens and flash in the future. I have read from other Canon users to buy another flash and that will make the photos even better. I tried movie mode and found the video to be very clear and the internal mic picks up sound very well, I must say I am impressed with the 1080p movies the camera produces. Overall I think this is a great camera for the money and it has served me and my family well. We are going to start taking our own "professional" photos of our kids, we plan on buying some backdrops to make our photos look like the professionals. So far I have not found any flaws with the camera and I am very satisfied and I am glad I made the purchase. If you plan on taking HD video make sure you purchase the correct SD card, I purchased one from Best Buy the PNY 4GB SSD card and it works great.

5 stars

Overall the package is a great deal. The only drawback is the light capture in auto mode with existing lense. By using Program Mode, and setting brightness, this can be resolved easily. The software that comes with the unit allows editing the brightness as well but takes time for each shot. Used it to photograph Christmas lights at Disneyland and got some great shots without tripod. Used day and night for action shots and almost all came out good.

Great camera no matter your experience level

5 stars

I am so happy with this camera, mostly because the EOS system is interchangeable with existing lenses/accessories. I purchased the kit which included a 18-55mm lens with IS, but it still works with my old 70-300mm EOS. I guess that's the point of the EOS system, but it's still awesome to see it in action. Not having to purchase additional lenses was key. After doing tons of research, I decided on this camera over other Canon's because of the favorable reviews. It has way too many options to list here, but I can still pick it up and snap away at a moments notice. The excellent shutter speed and high number of pixels makes this camera a winner.

Great 1st digital SLR for analog SLR intermediate+

5 stars

This is a great first digital SLR for anyone that is an intermediate or higher analog SLR user. All of the analog SLR features you would expect are here, including burst mode. We have not used any of the built in editing features (we're Photoshop people), but they seem to work well at first glance. Will handle just about any Canon lenses you can find, just follow the compatibility series list. The only caution we have is not about the camera itself, but about any memory cards. If you plan to use burst mode, you will want to get the fastest SD card you can find. We are able to get about 12 burst pictures before it has to slow to accommodate the slow speed of the memory card. If you plan to use burst mode alot, you may want to shell out the extra money to get a 30 MB/s card.

This camera is amazing. The clarity of the pictures and the ease of use make this camera a perfect gift! I am the mother of a one year old and one on the way, so I dont have much time to read directions and our pictures are very important to us. The pictures come out very clear and it is so easy to use. I would totally recommend this camera!

The Rebel is simply the easiest and best camera I have used. It is not only superb for business it has now become our primary family camera. The pictures are crisp and clean. The camera picks up details that the human eye does not see. Action shots are perfect for capturing our kids sports. The Rebel has settings for every memory you want to capture. Best Buy put together an awesome package, zoom lens, 8 gig memory and a terrific bag. Great value.

I bought it as a christmas present. So far both of us are ejoying the ease of use. Thie picture clarity is remarkable. One thing that they could not answer in the store is that it does have a built in pop up flash. I did buy another flash for it and the additional zoom lens.

This has been the best camera purchase I have ever made! I wanted a step up from the regular point and shoot digital camera, and what a difference! I am a mom of 3 active boys who are in sports...and I can't wait to use it. I could never get the good close up shots before...now I won't have that problem. Highly recommend it to anyone!

I bought this camera in December and I really enjoy it. I am taking at every occasion photos with it and the quality is superb. Also, the features provided are rich and gives you a broad spectrum of use cases. Especially, with active kids, the sports mode allows very good pictures.

Great Camera

I bought my camera a few months ago. I needed it for school because I am taking photography classes so it was a must. I spent hours and hours comparing cameras. I had a very tight budget that I couldnt go over so finding a camera that fit my needs for less seemed almost impossible. I am very happy with the features this camera has as well as the quality of pictures. The price was a added bonus. I would recommend this camera.

Excellent Purchase

5 stars

I bought this camera after doing lots of research on all DSLR cameras under $1000. I use it to take pictures of school events and the HD video is fantastic. (I use an external stereo microphone for audio.) The learning curve for someone like me who has had no experience with a DSLR before is very fast. My first shot in the auto mode was fantastic. I can't wait to really learn what I can do with the powerful Canon product.

Great Pics and Easy to Use

5 stars

My wife and I bought a Canon S1IS about 6 years ago and fell in love with that camera. Had some problems with the screen after a couple of years found out Canon had issued a recall. This resulted in us sending the camera to Canon for a repair, but Canon simply gave us a replacement instead (newer model too). That built up some customer loyalty points with us. Fast forward to December 2010. I bought this camera for my wife as a Christmas present. With the experience on the prior models, the new camera was easy to use right out of the box. We are still working our way through all the features and learning to use the camera, but one of the great aspects of it is you can set it to full auto and get fantastic pics essentially without knowing anything about cameras. A lot of the other reviewers already covered a lot of the various features and give you an idea as to how easy the camera is to use. A key feature for us was the Liveview screen feature which allows you to use the rear screen as you actually take pictures. The other models have the screen, but you only use it to view a picture after it has been taken.

Being new this type of Camera, trying all the different functions has been challenging. I recommend further reading online or at your local library. Overall I am very happy with this purchase and am looking forward to many years of use.

I got this for Christmas so I have not used it a lot yet. I had a point a shoot and could not get the pictures of my grandson so I had to up grade. I use to have an AE1 program and this is very much like it but better. It has so much you can do with it it will just take time to learn and remember. The best thing is you don't have to pay and wait for the pics. come back to see if you got the shot you wanted and you can practice all you want.

Great Camera for the price

5 stars

I bought my T2i back in October to do some special family photo shoots and Christmas. My previous camera was a 35mm Minolta SLR and I had been holding out until I felt the quality of digital SLR cameras had caught up. I am happy to say they have and I have really enjoyed it. I went with the T2i over the T1i because of the mega-pixels, the reviews, and the desire for the latest technology. I consider myself a hobbyist photographer with semi-professional leanings so I wanted something that has better quality than the wife's point and click Power Shot Cannon. Thus far I have been very impressed with the quality and have not been disappointed. Although I prefer to look through the view-finder, I like the ability to also use the screen in photo shoots with a tripod. My wish list now includes a remote trigger for those occasions. The only thing that I am not completely satisfied with is the built in flash, it seems too harsh under some situations. I am also adding an external flash unit to my wish list in the hopes having a wider choice of options.

5 stars

Great value for the money! The pics are beautiful in all lighting conditions. The lense in the kit holds the camera back though. With the 28-135mm IS lense(not in kit) really lets this camera shine with beautiful photos and awsome HD movies. Class 10 memory is a must with this camera! I wish the cam had a stereo mic built in for movies, only records in mono unless you buy an external mic. This camera is very easy to figure out. I would recommend this one for shure! buy it and enjoy!

I've been using my camera constantly since my purchase. I even took a camera workshop that helped me go from Auto mode to full manual mode. This really helps in taking full control of my Rebel T2i. I am beginning to appreciate the features this great camera offers. It has also given me great insight on the multiple artistic layers of photography. The T2i offers ease of use, its light and compact, offers full 1080 HD video, it's been fun to use from the first day I used it!

I purchased this camera in advance of a trip to the Philippines with my fiance, where she would see her family for the first time in ten years. Needless to say, we wanted great pictures. The camera delivered perfectly. The metering and flash are far more advanced than previous Rebels I've owned. The overall result is fantastic. The camera controls could be simplified a bit, but other than that it's a perfect camera.

Complex to use, excellent picture quality-features

4 stars

So far my use of this camera has been limited to the AF, and auto modes. There are a great many features and modes that allow for creativity within the shot, but to date find most of these parameters better manipulated after the shot with other software. One easily accessed feature on both the body and long lens is that of the image stabilizer. This allows for virtual steady shot without the use of a tripod or remote shutter release on all but the longest of exposures. The battery life is a bit under supplied, especially with the HD movie mode with the single battery, however this can be beefed up with the addition of the dual battery battery grip, that works so very well with it's storage area for the battery door when remowed. With time( and a minor in photography) I hope to be able to utilize more of the available features on this up to date solidly built camera.

This is my first digital SLR camera. I find it to be both complex and easy to learn and to use. I bought it 3 days before leaving for a trip to London. I was a bit intimidated by the 260 page user guide that came with it. But in that short period of time I learned enough about the camera to take over 700 really great pictures in various settings. I highly recommend the Canon T2i for anyone who is just getting started, but has the desire to move towards "serious intermediate" status.

I haven't found a single thing about this camera that I am unhappy about. I have a background in photography, so I love the fact that I can change the settings to my liking. Even on the automatic mode this camera takes beautiful images. I didn't buy this camera to use it as a video camera but I thought that it was cool that I could turn the knob and start shooting video of my daughter playing. Anyone that is on the fence about making this purchase, Do it! The quality of the pictures that this camera gives you is well worth the money . The huge plus to this camera is that you don't have to be an expert to take stunning pictures.

As soon as I pulled this camera out of the box, it was easy to use. I attached the lens read the book to understand basic shooting modes and was on my way. This Canon Rebel T2i allows you to use it as a point & shoot camera or you can buckle down and learn the manual controls to really maximize your picture quality. Combining that with canon's endless line of lens, you can get nearly any look your imagination can think of. All the same goes for the video feature as well. This is fun camera to have in my backpack!

Haven't had this camera for very long and I do not have any other cameras to compare it to other than my 1976 Minolta. Compared to that, it is lighter, has more features and the picture quality is at least as comparable. I was amazed at how well it worked in low light and will be testing it outside in cold temperatures (near or below zero) soon. Whether I received a good deal or not I cannot say but the price at Best Buy was better than Walmart as the Best Buy package included an extra lens.

This is a great starter SLR camera and the kit is the best way to go. I did however return this for the D60 Kit as I wanted the 18-135mm lens for general use and a faster shutter speed. The 18-55m was lacking the zoom I was looking for. For price you can't beat this kit, if you are looking for a longer lens and a camera with a higher specs go for the D60. Can't go wrong with either one

For the money, this is definitely a fabulous camera for the good amateur, non-professional user. If you would pair this with a top quality lens, I would probably get goose bumps!!! I've been wanting this camera for over a year .... and only wished that I purchased it a year ago. The indoor photos without a flash just leave me speechless, and after using so many digital, non-SLR cameras over the last 12 years, I am so glad to get back to that outstanding quality, and photos with great depth of field. It's just a little more to carry around than a little digitial, but lightweight and really not a big hassle.

POSTED BY ben888 on January 15, 2011

All I can say is "WOW!"

5 stars

Let me start by saying that this is my first DSLR. Although I played with 35mm SLR's in the past, I didn't really know what I was doing. I wanted to get the most out of our T2i, so I've been scouring the internet for information and began listening to the Camera Dojo podcast. These are both "must do's" for anyone new to SLR photography. Cameradojo.com is a great resource. Now, about the camera. Again, I'm new to this type of photography, but did a great deal of research before purchasing. I had not heard of the T2i until it went on sale, but had been looking the T1i for quite some time. After seeing the sale ads, I did my research. It didn't take long to make my decision. *One thing you have to know is that you'll need a Class 6 SD card or higher to be able to shoot video at 1080p. Anything lower will cause your camera to stop recording after a few seconds.* Quality: What can I say? It's a Canon. It's light, but doesn't feel cheap at all. Everything on this body is tight. The lenses attach easily and securely. all the accessory attachments and controls are well constructed and sturdy, with one exception. I don't know who decided that silicon flaps witn one small attachment point were a good idea, but whoever it was should be shot. I'm disappointed that Canon decided to use this feature for the door on the USB and other ports. I open this door daily to download my photos to the computer and I am concerned that it will wear over time and break off. That being said, that is the only negative thing I can say about the T2i. Features: This camera has it all. It uses a sensor that is almost identical to the Mark 7D. This gives it great image quality and a very sensitive exposure rating. Low light photography without a flash is stunning. Very snappy, allowing you to get great shots without a flash and no blur. It has a built in light meter and allows you to set everything to get the correct exposure with very little difficulty. The bottom line is that Canon has been building cameras as long as anyone and they know what they're doing. Whether you are a novice or skilled photographer, this thing is tremendously easy to use and has everything you could ask for. Photos and Video: One look at the features on this camera should prove that it is the only option for a family camera. 18Mp, good or bad, is a great selling point. In doing my homework, I'm finding that a lot of pro's are now questioning the need for that high of resolution. Don't get me wrong, I love the feature, but the image files are HUGE! Jpeg files are about 5Mb each and the raw files are around 23-24 Mb. Plan on plenty of storage room. The video files at 1080p are gigantic. I took a 57 second video on the highest settings and it is 328 Mb. Yep, almost a third of a gig per minute. I've always kept all my photos, even the ones that didn't turn out, but I have quickly discovered the delete button. I'm shopping for a 2Tb hard drive now. Now that the size issue is out of the way, let me tell you about the image quality. Impeccable. I would have never believed that a camera could take such great photos. The sensor takes great photos in low light. Shortly after getting the camera we took a trip to the California Academy of Science in San Francisco. They have a lower level where you can look at all the fish in the aquariums and tanks, but it is very dark. I took some crystal clear photos of my five-year-old son and they look like a pro took them. I took video of a diver feeding the fish in one of the tanks. You'd swear that you were under water with him. Bottom Line: This is an entry level, high end DSLR. It may not have the build quality of the higher end cameras, but for the armature photographer or, like me, the Dad photographer, this is the perfect choice. As my skill improves, I'm sure I'll move into higher end equipment, such as lenses and lighting. The plus is that anything you buy for the T2i will be compatible with later bodies. I can't recommend this enough if you want a great camera for the dinner table, or family activities.

Let's face it but sometimes, you only get one shot. the lenses are basic and I would have preferred to have had a wide angle zoom but I can wait with the standard lens and the zoom lens that came with the package deal. The camera is light and feels well built. Picture quality is superb as I have found that some of my pictures appear to be of professional grade. Battery life is great. I have not run out of juice while shooting. HD video is present but only lets you shoot brief videos but the quality is great.

I bought this for the quick shutter speed so I could capture moments of my baby that my digital camera failed at because of all the different flashes. The quality of the pictures is spot on but it was just entirely too much camera for me. I know nothing of photography but I do enjoy taking pictures and the photo quality is amazing. I have no idea what all the other settings do and never tried them out. I kept it for about 2 weeks before taking it back to get the Sony Alpha Nex 5. It has the quick shutter speed I was looking for but the camera itself is not so complicated and it's smaller than the T2i. A great camera, just not for me.

Great Digital SLR!

5 stars

I have had my T2i for a couple months now and have really enjoyed it. I previously had a Rebel 2000 film, then upgraded to the Rebel XT (digital) and used that for 5 years and had a great time with both, so I knew I wanted to stick with a Canon. I went with the T2i over the T1i because of the mega-pixels and the reviews all said to get the new one. I went with the T2i over the 7D because it was cheaper and didn't lose too much functionality, plus it was a little bit smaller in size and weight. The T2i also had the same size/style lenses as my other SLRs and I was able to utilize other lenses that I have purchased for my older cameras (which I wouldn't have been able to with the 7D without buying adaptors). I am a semi-professional photographer so I needed something that has better quality than a point and click camera. Thus far I have been very impressed with the quality and many of the features. I have also been impressed with the battery life of the LP-E8 battery; I have only needed to charge it once in the 2 months I have owned it. Although I prefer to look through the view-finder, I like the ability to also use the screen as well. I also like the Burst-mode capability, for taking portraits it can be very useful. The only thing that I can think to complain about is when you are shooting the HD video. Depending on what you are recording, the camera may feel the need to refocus, which makes a noise that is picked up by the microphone (therefor is in the recording). Other than that, it is easy to use and works great. I have also bought/received some accessories for it and am loving it even more!

Everything I was hoping for in a DSLR

5 stars

After finding out that my wife and I were expecting our first child, I decided that I needed to upgrade from my old Casio "point-and-shoot" 5MP camera and get something better to capture all those baby pictures I'd be taking. I spent about 3 months looking at different cameras in stores and talking to everyone I knew who had higher-end cameras themselves. I settled on this Canon Rebel T2i for a couple of reasons: 1) I needed to stay at or under $1000 for the total cost of camera+equipment 2) I wanted something 15 MP or better with a "Live View" capability. 3) I have fairly big hands and needed something that I could easily hold. Almost every single Nikon I tried out required me to contort my right hand in a weird way to grip it properly. It just wasn't comfortable at all. This Canon is big, but not too big. The controls are spaced far enough apart that I don't press anything on accident, but everything is also easily reachable. This was also the deciding factor between the T1i and the T2i. The T2i was just a bit more comfortable for me and the extra MP don't hurt either. 4) 3 of the people I talked to personally own this exact camera and each of them said that if they had to go back and buy a camera again, they would without a doubt buy this one again. I've only been using the camera since Christmas (we counted it as my Christmas present since it cost so much), but in the short time I have been using it, I've been blown away. I'm a very novice photographer but I'm still able to take amazing pictures with this camera. The clarity is outstanding and all the options/controls are easy to use. The auto-focus is a bit on the slow side, but the manual focus works well and is quite forgiving so I use that when time is an issue. So far I've only been using the kit lens but I don't have any complaints on it. It is what it claims to be. You won't get awesome zoom, but you'll get a decent enough zoom for most applications. All in all, this is the best camera I've ever owned and would make the exact same purchase again if I had to go back and do it over.

Easy to Learn

5 stars

Brought this camera for Christmas and its great. The pictures I've taken are great, they look like professional photos. The movie mode is good too, it actually looks better than my camcorder. Its easy to learn the buttons and features on this camera with just a little reading. I'm going to be adding the flash and tripod pretty soon as well.

This camera is amazing. I had a Nikon SLR, my mom has a nikon SLR and I never thought I would EVER switch to Cannon. But I did and it is amazing. It is so much easier to use and the quality is better. The ease to use video is easy. Everything about it is better. I was a nikon person for ever and this has changed everything. This camera is all you need unless you are going to be a professional. It has everything you need. The price is perfect since you get a 1080p video camera with it. I highly recommend it to everyone. Bye bye nikon......

Great Camera!

5 stars

We bought this when we found out our first child is on the way. We wanted to get something besides a point and shoot that takes high quality pictures. For the difference in money from the T1 to the T2 I figured I might as well spend a little extra for more quality, plus it was a great package deal at the time. I am still learning how to use modes besides auto. The creative-auto mode is pretty cool because it is easy to understand and switch up your pictures as you take them. I can't wait for summer to come so I can play with it outdoors more and get some pictures of our baby :) You will not be disappointed if you buy this camera. It definately makes it more fun to take pictures, and you will take many more pictures than with your point and shoot.

I'm a filmmaker, and I wanted to finally get up to 1080p, without spending a few thousand on an HD camera. That's when I noticed that the t2i can shoot 1080p. It was a solid choice for me, because I was also looking to upgrade to a better still camera, because my 3 year old Kodak wasn't doing me justice anymore. I love everything about the t2i, whether it be the ease of use, or fully customizable features, it's got it all. I also bought a Canon bag and the 55-250mm lens to go with it. It's a great package for a great price. You won't regret it.

Xtra Sharp Pics For The $$$$$$, DONT BUY FOR VIDEO

4 stars

I bought the T2i as an upgrade from the Rebel XT and it is a marked improvement in clarity, color depth and ease of use. Please make sure you DON'T BUY this camera for VIDEO since it may be 1080P but isn't the HD quality you will expect. I have a Canon Vixia HF10 HD Video Camera which possesses much more fluid video and blows the T2i away. The T2i unfortunately captures video and spits it out in .mov. Buy it for the pics and get yourself a decent video camera for the movies. It's only a matter of time before the true all in one canon camera is available at a reasonable price....it just didn't happen with this camera. The video is just not good enough.

You have to be crazy not to get this camera!!!

5 stars

where do I start? this camera is amazing! I was so happy to get this camera, the first thing I did was pull it out and take a picture in the parking lot of a muscle car WITH THE KIT LENS. they turned out amazing when the only light was coming from the nearest light posts. This could not have been achieved with my previous SLR(now to embarrassed to name). First off the 18-megapixels works amazing. Then the 6400 ISO is FANTASTIC!! I was taking photos of a state football game and I was amazed by the clarity, and color reproduction this camera puts forth, not to mention that after publishing my shots, a professional photographer that was present at the football game congratulated me for taking the best shots of the game(finally!). As for me, in recent months I have been taking senior portraits and since I got this camera my ability to take portraits in different lighting situations have increased dramatically. In addition, this camera has all the features that the 7D has, but half the price. In my opinion, the t2i is in a way better then the 7D because one minute you can be taking portraits then give it to mom to take some sports picks on the auto modes. The 7D doesn't have auto. Overall, I would highly recommend this camera for anyone who wishes to start photography or just take normal shots of the family because you wont be disappointed and you'll have peace of mind that you only spent $800 while the Jones paid $1800 for the same quality.

best Investment for incredible pics!

5 stars

I Got this camera as a Christmas gift for my wife and i, i have had my share of the point and shoot cameras witch are fine for outdoor still pics or indoor with the flash at close range,But until i took my first photo's at my daughters birthday party i had no idea how much i was missing! My Sony point & shot did a fine job for pics of kids and outdoors! but if lighting was low, or the kids playing or i was trying to capture a deer from 100 ft away i could never get the shot! plus i was always missing he perfect photo waiting on the camera to be ready! well not anymore!! this canon T2i does it all and very well! the pic's i took at a family wedding were incredible even in low light i was taking photos from 50 foot away and they came out perfect! i was so impressed i could have sold these to the wedding party no problem,(but it's family) there professional they got saw my camera and was asking how i liked it! i showed her some of the pic's and she was very impressed! she was gonna go buy one for herself she said! so if a pro like's the pic's and what i was taking after only having the camera for a few days then i know i made a good choice! the only camera that comp's this one is the Nikon D90 witch is a wonderful camera my friend has one and loves it! but for like $500 less i can take photos just as good, and as for the HD video the Canon beats the D90 by far! i would say go play with one at the store you will see how nice this camera truly is! dont forget the protection plan for an extra 149 you get 4 years protection and free cleaning every year! so it pays for its self, most dslr are very easy to break by droping it or getting it wet or breaking the lens! so don't pass up plan ! if they can't fix it you get a new camera on the spot! well worth the money ! have fun if you take the leap and get this camera!

Great Prosumer Camera

5 stars

This camera was intended for all consumers from the beginner to the prosumer. Many wedding professional wedding photographers will love this camera. It has 18 Mega Pixels, which is large enough to blow a picture up as large as you could possibly ever imagine (Billboard size). With a MP count and new censor the main difference in picture quality between this camera and a Pro camera like the 7D/Mark IV is lenses and understanding of the camera. Many Pro's/SemiPro's will use this camera as a great back up. I have been shooting for over 13 years and the things I notice about this that the pro's won't like is: *Shutter Lag - about .5-1 Seconds *Ergonomics - (The trade off for just an "OK" grip is the camera is much lighter than the 7D, Mark IV, etc.) *Built in Flash (A pro will always use the hotshoe anyway) *RAW Shooting Speed *1.6 Crop Factor (100mm lense shoots photo's at 160mm) This is a great benefit if you love Telephoto (with a 300mm lens you are getting a magnification of 480mm, which is a lense only a few can afford) *Battery Life - (This can be compensated by adjusting many features like auto censor cleaning, which will almost double the battery life) *No Dust/Weather resistence (the body is durable though) *Only 9 autofocus points (for hand held shooting this isn't a problem, focus, use FE lock, adjust camera, then shoot) *Small Viewfinder Everyone, including me will love: *Screen color adjustment *Custom Functions *Built in Copyright software embedded into RAW *Live View *Senses your face, so it doesn't waste time or energy showing previews while you are shooting! *Auto or manual Sensor Cleaning (manual preserves the battery) *Great ISO range (even adjust in fully automatic) *Full functionallity with ETTL Flashes *With a five second tutorial your wife/girlfriend can use it while your out! It is as complex as you would like it or as simple as point and shoot. Shooting video's isn't as easy with this camera as with a video camera, however, the quality is almost professional grade. For broad video coverage get a 24-300mm lens, then be prepared to edit the video. ***For all users remember LENSES, LENSES, LENSES, especially Canon L lenses will bring image quality from 0-100!

Great when you want SLR functionality

5 stars

This is an easy to use SLR, with great pictures and functionality. But it's best when you want the capabilities of an SLR, especially quick shutter response, multiple shots, and (of course) high res. We also own Canon 3500 IS, and frankly, it's probably a better value for average vacation pictures. It's lighter and more convenient, and native wide zoom range (esp, including digital). But when you've got something that's hard to shoot, the T2i really shines. So for animals, birds, action shots, even great close-ups, it's tops. Just think whether you want great pictures or the convenience of something that travels in your pocket and does most of the same things almost as well. Then you want the smaller option. If you want the top pictures, stick with the T2i. It's as good as it gets in this range.

POSTED BY Grauler on December 12, 2010

Well worth the price.

5 stars

This camera is replacing an older Canon XTI. The new features, increased megapixels, quieter drive and compact size sold me over buying the 7D. I am an avid shooter who is looking to move up with my hobby and shoot better and more reliable photos. The T2i is half the cost of the 7D and has all the features I need to get better control over my shots. I use a Tamaron 70-300 and a fixed 50mm lens. I also have the 430 Speedlite. All work great with the T2i. All controls are easy to use, the weight is comfortable, the compact size is easy to hold and reach the buttons. If you are looking for a great mid-level complete camera the 2Ti is it. Or if you have the money the 7D would be my next choice. For me saving around 700.00 was worth not going with the 7D.

Best Camera for the price

5 stars

As a photographer, I'm used to using all the professional Canon models, but at less than half the cost of the 7D, I found the quality of the images outstanding, even with the kit lens. The ugrades from previous Rebel models are worth the slight price jump. I can only imagine what an L lens can do for the photos. I last owned a 5Dmk II, so it took some getting use to the smaller and lighter build as well as the button arrangements, but after a week of use, it was very easy to understand and handle. Burst rate isn't as fast as the pro cameras, but unless you're shooting sports or birds regularly, 3.7f/p/s isn't bad. Great features, best camera for the money and the best LCD screen on the market at any level. The HD 1080P movie mode with many quality options allows me to leave my camcorder at home when traveling. So far so good....

You'll never want another camera besides this one

5 stars

This is my first digital SLR camera, I bought this camera because of the price and mainly because I was tired of the point and shoot cameras that take bad picture if there's low light or a lot of motion (blurred pictures) I have taken many pictures with this camera and they almost always seem to come out great. I did venture into the semi auto modes and took some bad pictures but I'm learning from that and getting the hang of it. I took video of my sons soccer game (on a tripod) and like what I saw, so now I only need this camera for pictures and video. I'm not a professional but I wouldn't want another camera on the market today!

I have been saving my money to buy this camera for months now. I have dreamt of how it would feel to finally own it and I must say my expectations have been surpassed. This camera is great for people who want to take photography a little more seriously while still catering to those who have no photo experience. The photos I have produced in one day of testing are stunning and the video quality is nothing short of exciting, especially to a young film maker. The possibilities are limitless with this camera and because of that I advise anyone that is considering an upgrade from point and shoot to invest in this marvelous product.

I have used a 5d Mark ii and a 7D, I got the T2i as I always replied on people that owned the other cameras but i did not want to spend $1700+ on a camera. The T2i at $800 is an amazing price for the 1920x1080 HD quality and the focus works a lot better then i thought it would. It has little issues but as long as you are going to use it as a video camera it is just as good as the 7D and almost as good as the 5D Mark ii. Save the money on the camera get better lenses and buy the T2i over the 7D or 5D!!!

Wow. This camera is a dream. Canon doesn't know what they've done, giving me such a powerful tool. They've unleashed the beast! I bought this camera to shoot an independent feature film. I had to put it through some tests, first, to make sure it was up to the task. The picture quality is great, and the manual controls give me everything I need to be creative when shooting. I can even shoot high speed (for slow motion in playback), which is awesome. At this point, I'm satisfied that it has passed all my tests, and I can move ahead with production. I had planned to use the RED Scarlet (whenever it gets released), but when I saw that Canon had released a DSLR with such fantastic video functionality, I had to give it a shot. Now my camera needs have been met, and it only cost me a very small fraction of what I had expected. I'm thrilled!

Excellent still camera

5 stars

Using since about a month now and is my first DSLR. Also bought a 55-255 mm IS canon lens with the camera from Best Buy as an unbeatable price was offered. I find this camera great to use for stills. I am a hobbyist and not a pro, but the pictures are easy to take and come out professional grade if you have patience and some knowledge of camera optics. The feature set is comprehensive and a steal at its price. Battery life and recharging time are better than my expectations. Software provided is more than enough for my needs. A camera bag and card will be extra unless bought in a package deal. I do not know why a panorama mode is not included. That would have made this camera near perfect as far as stills are concerned. The biggest problem is the video recording. Recording process is quite inferior to average digital cameras or camcorders as there is no single zoom in/out control and the focus needs to be repeatedly adjusted by pressing the shutter especially if the point of interest is moving closer and away from the camera. If you want to zoom in, you must do it manually by rotating the zoom ring of the lens or move closer to the subject. Then, you may need to refocus using the noisy shutter button. On my megazoom digital camera, video recording is so much smoother and zooming control as easy as on a camcorder. It would also constantly autofocus without my having to do it. I do not know why that cannot happen on a DSLR of such sophistication. Also, Canon advertises that video recording is possible using a Class 6 SDHC card, but what they probably mean is that you can record 720p video and not 1080p with a class 6 card. The salesperson at Best Buy told me at the time of purchase that class 10 SDHC is needed for video recording. Please remember that all class 6 cards are not the same in writing speed. One of my class 6 cards will record 1080p video on T2i, however, but it has 150x speed. Others do not. On those, I figured out the" video recording stops automatically" in a few seconds. This should have been mentioned in the video recording section of the manual, not in the troubleshooting section. So, the video recording part is much hyped and a big letdown, although the recorded videos look great. I suggest this camera should be bought for excellent stills. It can only serve as a cumbersome, back up video recorder if there is no better option. Perish the thought of video recording like a camcorder if that is what you are expecting!

Best bang for my buck!!

5 stars

I thoroughly researched buying my first started DSLR and searched all over the internet to read reviews and what other people thought about the specific camera they bought. My final decision (after about 7 months of deliberating) was to buy the T1i. I was very fond of how it felt in my hand and how much fun it was to use (and ofcourse it had all the features I needed) that I was deadset on buying it. About 2 weeks before I was planning to buy my T1i I read articles about the T2i. At first I said no need for another $100 since it PROBABLY will only be a new version with nothing special done to it... WRONG!!! Canon listened to users' complaints and they added 25 and 30FPS for 1080 HD video (and a few more smaller less significant things)!!! Video works like a charm (except for the fact you must keep pushing the shutter button to get back into focus) for what I needed. If you intend on using the video feature VERY often and dont like constantly pushing the shutter button to reaquire focus then you should consider buying a video camera since this wont cut it. Be advised, Dont think that all you gotta do is buy the camera and your done. A level 10 SDHC card is HIGHLY recommended if you take action shots, if you are more of a hobbyist and mainly take slow pictures then a level 6 should work just fine! Kit lens is a good starter but if you intend on taking up photography as a hobby be prepared to shell out more $$$ for a new lens (for better quality). I also bought the canon 200DG gadget bag and although it is big and bulky It carries around ALL my photo things and i dont need to worry about anything getting damaged or banged up since everything is well insulated! Overall- A+++++.

Fantastic Camera

5 stars

It's a great camera. Less than the 7d with the same video performance. Not as fast taking stills but I'm not a sports photographer. I've taken mostly JPEG's and HD video, including the Slow Motion I was talking about (720p60 frames converted to 24p with a program like Cinema tools) and I've been extremely happy with the results. The video becomes noisy at 1600 ISO but nothing that can't be taken care of with the Neat video plugin for your editing program. 3200 is still usable. For a serious photographer ONLY there are some compromises, this is a hybrid type of DSLR camera that takes great photos but is not meant JUST for photography, this is for VIDEO and PHOTOS. It is a not a pro level piece of equipment (lack of supplementary LCD screen for aperture and shutter and it's not watertight like the 7D) but for half the price it is a steal. I did A LOT of research before getting this camera (2 months or so) and I am extremely, extremely pleased. My advice is, if you have a budget of $1500 total get a longer zoom lens. The EF series because it works for full frame cameras also (this is a crop sensor which means all 50mm are really about 80mm, multiply the focal length by 1.6 to approximate what sort of zoom effect you'll get) To be clear the EF 28-135mm with Image Stabilisation is great and relatively fast at f3.5. If you want to take photos indoor without flash you need something that's f2.8 and below... Most of my photos have been taken with a 35mm f2 Nikon manual focus lens with adapter... That does mean that there is no focus confirmation but I don't mind that. If not, the included 18-55mm is a great optical quality lens in what amounts to basically a plastic shell. It is light but it has Image stabilization and it works! I use mostly old manual focus lenses from Nikon, Minolta and Pentax with adapters off of Ebay and I am extremely pleased with the results. Get a fast lens and go enjoy this camera. I'm not posting my raw pictures because they're almost all of my family but you can go to vimeo and flickr and search for this model number and get a good look see. It's a great piece of equipment that looks extremely serious with the optional battery grip the LP-E8 which in my opinion is necessary for video taking for the weight and extra battery life, I give the whole shebang 5 out of 5.

My 3rd Digital Rebel.

3 stars

Overall, I'd have to say I'm not very happy with this camera. I've owned 2 other Digital Rebels, the original and I still own the XS. This one just seems slower than the XS in a lot of ways. Not in some, but in some very important. I've had to spend a LOT of time and money to find an SD card that works well with this camera. I wish they'd stuck with Compact Flash cards. Those seemed to be much more rugged, faster and more well suited for this type of photography. The HD video is cool, but gets old quick as it requires so much to get a good video I'd rather use my iPhone 4 to take videos. Plus Canon continues with the very poorly shaped hand holds on it's newer Digital Rebels, this one not an exception. It's very very HARD to hold on to for a long time. The grip is tiny, making you crunch your fingers to hold it. I'll probably end up selling this one. :(

Great Camera! For Beginner is better than 7D!

5 stars

I returned the EOS 7D which was a beast of a camera full of options! But because I am a newbie into the DSLR field it was more difficult for me to get good photos out of it (i.e. blurry, background issues etc) - which i attribute to my lack of knowledge about photography. However, with the T2i i was able to take great photos immediately - i even was able to play around with the manual settings a little to get the output I wanted. THe 7D is great for an experienced shooter, but for a starter or semi-pro you'll love the T2i. The video is very good for a camera, but as many users have stated is definately weak compared to a dedicated HD camcorder.

Best DSLR for the $

5 stars

I did a lot of testing of the Canon 5DMKII to the 7D using them in different lighting (natural, studio) to check the sensor noise at different ISO ratings. Both excelled at low light but had a lot of latitude for bright daylight shooting options. And, both allowed for HD recording (1920x1080) which was to be the main reason for purchasing. The only problem was price. The 5D is around $3000 and the 7D at $1700...both out of my price range. When I heard Canon was going to release a low-end (sub $1000) I was eager to see the stats. All three cameras use nearly identical sensors and image processing engines. The T2i uses a slightly smaller than 35mm capture area for the sensor (thus, the EF-S format lenses) but with pictures at 18megapixels...you won't notice the difference. If you get one, I suggest buying the body and picking up a lens separate. The kit lens sucks and feels like a toy. The extra $100 you'd save by buying the body only can be used on a great lens. My only complaint, such as it is, is about the overall weight. It's a very light camera because it uses a less rugged body construction than the 5D or 7D. That translates to a bit more shake when shooting video handheld. If you're interested in seeing some images taken with the T2i, here are a few of my own: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jcurtis/sets/72157623638286373/ Here are some video tests, too- test footage1: http://www.vimeo.com/10660277 test footage2: http://www.vimeo.com/10665243

Blows the others away!

5 stars

The t2i is easy to pick up and use! Not to mention the picture quality is incredible! The 6400 ISO makes low light shots come out great, even without flash! The full 1080 HD video is really impressive too, but it takes up a lot of space on the memory card. Also like all SLR cameras there isn't a way to auto focus while taking video! Overall amazing camera, EXTREMELY light due to the plastic body and kit lens, but doesn't feel cheap at the same time! :)

Great camera for serious amatures

5 stars

Really like this camera, stepping up from my EOS XT and into the 21st century. The first thing I noticed is how much quieter it is over my last kit when shooting. The 3" screen on the back amazing! Allows me to explore my creative side while not having to fiddle with all the controls, but have those controls available for the details. The button layout is very good and natural, I am able to make adjustments without taking my eye from the viewfinder. Have only shot a little video and it looked amazing, to be able to drag the focus and the zoom was great. File uploaded to my computer without issue.

Beautiful images, even for a newbie

5 stars

I've had some good point-and-shoots but this is my first DSLR. I bought it b/c of the reviews on ease-of-use, image quality, and the 1080p HD movie mode. Every positive review on those was right on. I know almost nothing about photography -- I just want to capture memories of my kids and the places we've been, with very high quality. The full-auto mode does this perfectly. I often take movies with my digital camera and wanted those to be very high quality too, and the 1080p movies from the T2i look great. As I learn more about photography, this camera obviously has the features to help me to be more creative. I am very happy with it after a month of heavy use, and expect to be happy with it for a long, long time.

Pretty awesome

5 stars

This is my first SLR camera and I can say that it is very easy to learn how to use this thing. I've only had it for one day and I've already taken hundreds of pictures of random things. The pictures taken with this kit lens are pretty crisp and I think that >90% of the people looking for entry level SLRs would be pretty satisfied with just the kit lens. I connected the camera to my HDTV and it looks pretty nice. I'll probably get a cheap 50mm f /1.8 lens soon for even better low light shots.

Awesome camera - unbelieable difference

5 stars

I purchase a T2i yesterday and I primary interested in the low-light features of this camera plus the ability to to do full 1080p video with this cameral. I have a Canon Digital Rebel with MP-65E Macro lens and MT-24E Macro flash and I amazed at the difference this camera. With the higher ASA and easlieer to use features, this should be a great experences with this new camera. Initially I didn't even care about of video when I desired this camera change, but the way that Canon so elegantly put this feature into the camera, combine with ability to do it low light - is so awesome. For me not much more is necessary for this camera, I have a battery grip for my old Digital Rebel and Canon even made it better for T2i - it supports both rechargable batter packs and normal batteries. Which would be nice especially if you a situation where you could not recharge batteries. Only complaint is price - but price is cheaper than orginal rebel.

Upgraded from the canon SX10, so far I really like the T2i, its light easy to use for me anyway. I kinda of miss not having to carry extra lenses, but its great for low light pictures. I take mostly outdoor pictures and so far very happy with them. The kit lens is ok, not all that happy with the 55-250 but that could be me needing lots of practice. What I really miss is the movable lcd screen on my SX10, but this screen is very clear so I will get used to it.

Top end camera with full HD video!

5 stars

My first digital SLR after watching features grow to the point that I wanted. I do a fair amount of nature photography where post editing requires having enough pixels to crop and zoom in for a really detailed close up photo - without having a high end 500m or better lens to get close up for the original. I bought the optional 70-300mm lens (non IS) and with the camera's high ISO you can use a fast shutter speed and still get totally steady and focused shots. As a digital camera, you can't beat this one for the price and overall features and quality offered. Having full 1080p HD video at 30fps is amazing - but still somewhat compromised compared to camcorders (expected). I also travel a lot, where having a video is really the only way to really capture many scenes or activities. Having used digital camcorders for this, I knew this Canon's video mode would be somewhat compromised, and it is. You need to set your expectations: - zooming in or out during movie is manual so can be erratic not smooth and at best you get about 3:1 optical zoom (camcorders can easily offer 20:1 optical smooth electronic zoom); auto-focusing during the video capture will also capture the motor sound from the focus servo and focusing manually is not very easy during filming; don't expect to video anything that is even slightly dark as it cannot compensate for this the way camcorders can. I did not try videoing at 720p or lower to see if this effect improved. So if you are serious about HD video, you will need to use a quality HD camcorder. Otherwise, this is about as good as they get for such a combination camera.

I had been looking for a good camera to take both video and still photos ever since the birth of my daughter. I am glad i waited the extra time as it allowed for the 18 mega pixel t2i to come out not that the t1i wouldn't have done the job just as effective but this way i as the same quality mega pixel asthe camera that professionals use. I am amazed at all the little cheat sheets available for the camera and how easy it is to use despite having limited photography skills. The picture quaity is top notch and couldn't see myself ever getting a better camera for the money. The best thing about it was gettting on best buys no interest financing for two years which means i only pay little less than 50 a month for an awesom camera. so glad i have it to capture the memories of my little girl she is growing up so fast and to capture them with such great images and video is priceless.

OH, WELL, I Coulda bought an Xsi and saved $

Granted I hardly need JPEGs, but I was shocked that the normal option of RAW+JPEG didn't work. RAW alone works just fine. I'm guessing that the SDHC cards are not fast enough to handle JPEG+RAW, but the SDXC cards are not available yet. Nor are spare batteries, and of course it's not the same battery that my xTi has, so more money gets wasted. The BIGGEST disappointment is in the way it's been hyped to imply that there are 5 (FIVE) bracket stops available in AEB. Not. Just the old 3. Which means for the HDR enthusiast that your tripod had better be really sturdy so you change the amount of under or overexposure to get 5 or 6 steps of bracketing without knocking the camera out of position. I just wanted the body only, but the HYPE again made that an impossibility in my timeframe and I had to buy the stock zoom for the extra $100. Rip off. I already have a library of lenses and didn't want this one. Frankly, I should have done better homework on which brands/models have more than 3 bracket stops (there are quite a few), but Canon makes you buy their 2 top Pro models for huge $$ to get that feature. I should've started with another big name brand, back when I started buying lenses and bodies for film cameras. Canon is falling way behind N*k*n. Live View is really awkward and useless.Jumpy. Slow. Who needs it except maybe in the studio? I made a few normal adjustments in the C.Fn window and managed to lose autofocus! Never happened before...so be wary. It's easy to reset to factory standards of course, but still, why lock out autofocus? It's, once more, a non-intuitive choice that requires the manual. The HD movie feature is non-intuitive; i.e.: experienced Canon users need to RTM to get it to work. It wasn't a feature I cared about, but maybe someday I will. My advice? Don't get too excited about this small step up from the T1i, ok? 3MP is not going to make or break your photo. Of course I am used to shooting 4x5 and 8x10 film and scanning it, so you can imagine what kind of detail is available there with a great scanner. That's the longwinded review. Hope you hear me.

I'm neither a professional nor an expert user of digital cameras. This is my second SLR camera (the first one was a Pentax) and I'm amazed of the quality product Canon delivers. Great pictures and colors. As I said I'm not an expert and the camera is extremely easy and friendly to use. I haven't read the manual before I already knew how to handle all the main features. Its weight is very reasonable for this type of camera (at first I was aiming at buying the Nikon D90 but when I had in my hand I was shocked about how heavy it was). Very good value for money On the negative side I was a little dissapointed on the quality of the HD video features. Absolutely doesn't compete with a regular digital camcorder.

Definitive HD Video SLR solution

5 stars

There is a reason you see amazing quality short films popping up online using the T2i. You will not find better HD video on anything under 15k. And this under $900! While taking great shots and making use of the great Canon IS lenses, the T2i outperforms the Nikon counterparts when shooting in low lighting. Better noise ratio and the kit lens offers better stabilization. 1080p video at 24 frames is breathtaking and has great customization. I sold my Nikon SLR and my Canon GL2 video camera to get this all in one solution. And it's better than both. My only negative is the on board audio. The mini jack is so noisy. When you plug an external mic in, expect a low level hiss. But if you're serious about recording video shorts, you will be recording to an external audio device anyway and syncing it in post.

I am a beginer with SLR cameras and have used point and shoot digital for a long time - very successfully. My sons tease me about the type of camera I use especially with the shots I do capture, they have wanted me to upgrade for a long time and I was worried about the settings I would have to learn, I left the camera in the box the first two weeks and just kept using my little point and shoot, finally I built my nerve up and decided to compare pictures taken between the two cameras, so when I had no audience, I went about taking the pictures twice, and I must admit that this camera ROCKS! I am astounded at the difference the quality of this camera makes. The main thing to comment on is that I had no help with the directions and it was very easy to use, I am sure I have a ton to learn to use it to the best of it's capabilities but even using it in a basic manner I am getting terrific quality and am happy that I decided to upgrade to the T2.

Nice for still pictures but not so great for video

3 stars

This camera is great for still photography. Better thant he 40D that I had before. I sold the 40D to get this camera so I could have something that I could use for shooting some short HD Videos if I wanted to, but it seems I'm still out of luck for this. Going to have to get an HD Camcorder just to record 1 to 2 minute videos which is simply annoying. While shooting video the autofocus does not function. So if you're recording subject is moving a lot you have to manual focus, which also means lots of camera shakes unless you have an extremely steady hand. That is my biggest gripe about the HD Video. The other is the fact that when doing HD Video you are forced to use the Live View mode only, which generates more heat, meaning if you shoot anything longer than a few minutes you are going to start seeing heat particles appearing in the image. Then the Live View itself, focusing in this view is incredibly slow. What will focus through the viewfinder in 1/10th of a second will take over a second on Live View. Again heat is a problem if you try to use this mode for extended periods. If you try to use the "Quick" focus mode in live view, it actually disables live view, focusings then switches back. You can hear the mirrors inside being moved and I cannot imagine constant usage of this would be good for the long term mechanics of the camera. Do not buy this camera for the video or Live View, if you do you will be disappointed. Spend the extra few hundred and get a 50D for still photos instead, or on a HD Camcorder.

Stop looking. You've found your camera!

5 stars

Outstanding camera. My first in ascending to a good DSLR camera as a hobbyist. I was pleasantly surprised at how much of the work this camera can do for you. Purchased mostly to get better shots of the kids' sporting events initially. Shutter speeds are plenty fast at 1/4,000 and detail captured the seams and logo of a baseball crossing the plate 200 feet away. Amazing. Still lifes and wildlife photos are vivid and colors are extremely close to reallife. Auto-adjusts in picture editing barely do anything and I mostly prefer the original shots to the "adjusted" ones. The noise at higher ISOs may bother some advanced photographers, but if you are THAT advanced, this may not be your camera anyway. If you are in the market for a super camera that can do much more than those $500 JUMBO megapixel point-and-shoot models, open up the wallet a bit and give yourself a lifetime of great shots.

The Rebel T2i is a very well built camera that takes both amazing still life and video images and has all the bells and whistles of the more expensive digital SLR cameras out there. The LCD screen on this camera is amazing and the placement of buttons is very effective when shooting images. The features including the ability to plug in an external microphone when taking video gives this camera a well rounded number of possibilities even for those including myself who have never played with video before. This being my first digital SLR that I have ever purchase feels and has proven in image quality, durability and price to be the best bang for your buck out of the starting gate. Whether you are just getting started or looking to upgrade to SLR from point and shoot. The nice thing about this camera is there is a vast number of lenses and accessories for it !

We bought this camera for my wife to use. I shoot with the Canon 7D and we were going to buy her one of those but after checking out the T2i we decided to go with it and keep the extra $$$ for other toys. I have two nits about the camera: (1) It uses SD cards instead of Compact Flash cards. All of my other DSLRs have used Compact Flash cards and this is the first one we own that doesn't use them so we had to buy some extra cards. It's not that big of a deal but when you already have 10 Compact Flash cards it sucks not being able to use them. (2) The 9 point focusing system is very quick and accurate but neither my wife nor I can always tell which of the 9 points has focus. To get around this I'll sometimes focus more than once just to verify that the focus point I want selected is in fact selected. Other than these little nits we absolutely love the camera and I'm sure we'll get years of use from it.

I got this camera for my birthday and going thru and looking at all the other camera I thought this was the best deal. The lenses on this camera for what you pay are great to start out. The flash havent used it yet. The camera itself is easy to use and takes beautiful pictures.

Great Camera, easy to use

5 stars

Great camera with lots of different choices. Easy to use. Takes great sports pictures. Haven't gotten to use the video yet. Make sure you buy a memory card because you don't get a sample one with this camera. Also, if you're planning to take video right away make sure that the speed on your card is 6 or above and at least 16g. I have to buy another card because I wasn't told about the 6 speed when I purchased my 16g card, it was only a 4 speed and that is too low for quality video. Otherwise, excellent camera.

I'm in love with my new camera <3

5 stars

The bad: It was a little hard to use at first. I had to read the book to figure out all the buttons and learn how to take a picture and film movies, etc. And I'm pretty good at this kind of thing. I had an older Rebel and this one was completely different. I wouldn't recommend this camera to someone that's not good with electronics or is just starting out. But if you have used SLR's and are good with digitals, then you'll love this. The good: It takes the most amazing pictures! I love the big screen that you can go live action on. I made the screen live, and then watched it while I put the camera by the ground to take an upclose flower picture. Perfect! The movie quality is excellent too (just make sure you have a good sd card for it). I always had to photoshop the heck out of my old pictures but I haven't touched up one picture yet with this camera. It's lighter than my old one, it's faster, pictures are 3x's bigger. I just need to use it more so I can get used to it.

This is a very nice camera!

5 stars

I upgraded my older Canon Digital Rebel to the new T2i. I'm blown away by the jump in general picture quality. Even with the standard lens, this outshines my previous cameras. I never learned all the features of my older Rebel, but I intend to experiment with this one to learn it inside out!. I have not used the video feature yet. If it works out, I could use this to replace my camcorder as well.

Rebel T2i

5 stars

Since getting the T2i we haven't stopped using it at all of our childrens sporting events. The pictures are great and it's easy to use. It does create one more thing to carry to the fields, but it's worth it. The pictures are far better than our prior camera.

Love it

5 stars

I love this camera. I bought it primarily to shoot filmic video with a shallow depth of field, and it is very good at that and takes phenomenal stills as well. It's my first SLR, and I am really enjoying it. Because of the large sensor size (APS-C) and lenses you can use (I bought a 18-135mm zoom and a 50mm F1.8 prime) you can get beautiful shallow depth of field shots with nice dynamic range. There are several caveats for shooting video (you have to focus manually, can't plug in XLR mics (but you can sync good audio in post), and the fact that the camera can get a high temp warning if you shoot extensive video with it in a hot environment and you may have to let it cool down, but the gorgeous images you get, and the fact that the camera is only $850, make it worth it. Very pleased with this camera.

I'm new to the digital SLR world, and after doing a lot of research and comparisons, I decided to go with the T2i. But what can I say that the other reviewers haven't already said. It's a great starter camera, and I'm happy with my purchase.

Excellent image quality, but kit lens is junk.

4 stars

I ordered a T2i sight unseen, and was surprised to discover how small and light it was. I don't have large hands, so it wasn't a problem, but it is rather compact compared to the semi-pro, and pro cameras. The light weight is nice for carrying around, but if you buy a high-quality zoom lens or a long telephoto, the whole package may not balance as nicely as a larger camera. The image quality is incredible, with more detail and less noise than anything this side of a 5DII. Being able to capture clean, beautiful images at ISO 1600 and 3200 will change the way you approach photography. For even better results, noise reduction software such as NeatImage will let your high ISO images look as good as 200 or 400 or 800 ISO from previous DSLR's. I ended up selling my T2i on Craigslist because I was disappointed with how "plasticy" the Rebel T2i felt to handle, and how extremely cheap the 18-55 kit lens looks, feels, and performs. I know that this is a "Rebel", but still, for $900 I was expecting something that felt more solid, and I just didn't have anything left in the budget for a better lens. The 18-55 lens is a serious mismatch for the 18MP sensor of this camera. It would be kind of like if Chevy sold the new 426hp Camero SS with Continental all-season tires instead of the Pirelli P-Zero tires. It'll work, but you'll be missing out on the full potential. If you don't have the budget to upgrade the lens, I wouldn't bother with the T2i since the lens will be a bottle-neck to the 18MP sensor, since the optics just aren't there to take advantage of 18MP. And the lens looks very cheap, and the zoom action feels very cheap. And it doesn't even come with a lens hood, and the optional lens hood looks ridiculous. I was coming from an Olympus e-520, which looks and feels like a much more expensive camera than the Rebels, and has very high-quality kit lenses, both build-wise and optically. I was also disappointed with the difficulty of playing and working with the Quicktime videos on a PC. And my PC is a fairly well-spec'd dual-core with 4GB of RAM, 10K Raptor HDD and an nVidia 8800GT video card. Quicktime is an Apple format, so if you have a newer Mac I don't think you should have any problems with the video. If you're planning to use this with a PC, you should find a website that lets you download un-edited video samples to see how they run on your machine. After selling the T2i, I ended up buying a white Pentax K-x w/18-55mm lens for half the price, so I still had enough money left over for the legendary Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 lens and a Sigma speedlight. The K-x has image quality equal to the T2i, but I find the smaller 12MP files and the MJPEG video much easier to work with. Plus, the Pentax has in-body image stabilization, so any lens is stabilized by default. And the Pentax cameras/kit lenses are similar to Olympus in quality.

Think you need a 7D for video?

5 stars

T2i for video; *** Pro; *** It uses SD cards. Daylight video quality is the same as the 7D and 5D mark II. It is essayer to set your ISO with it's dedicated button that the 5D and 7D don't have. It is $900 to $1,600 cheaper so spend that on a better lens. Canon has fixed the green tint that has plagued there full line of video since the beginning. That includes there Pro XH line at $4,000. Not sure about there XF or XL line. But were talking apples and oranges at this point. Never have I relied on the auto white balance in tungsten light on the G2, G7, G9, 10D or a 20D, but this T2i gets it right every time. *** Con; *** Auto focus is useless on all the Canon DSLRs in video mode. No Rec time during recording. Only 1080 on play back. If you plan on using a 1080 external monitor during a shoot for focus, your stuck in HD. 720. (7D and 5D are 1080) 5D performs well up to 4000 ISO 7D performs well up to 1600 ISO T2i performs well up to 800 ISO No audio control on 7D or T2i (note that it was a firmware update on the 5D so it might be coming to the 7D and T2i soon) Conclusion; We are in a growth spurt in the DSLR world, but at this price it's a great step. 1. Soon, the processor speed will get fast enough so the scan, on the chip will improve, eliminating the jelly fish effects and other artifacts associated with DSLR cameras. 2. This will make a great second or "B" cam when the next generation come out that will have a longer life. (Big growth spurt was from the D60 to the 10D. Good Times) Then we all can justify $2,400 for a full frame DSLR like the 5D. 3. The auto focus, for video, will become as good as the rest of there video camera line. (LoL, it's worse than there $350 video cameras. What's that about.)

Great Camera for a DSLR beginner!

5 stars

I have owned the Canon T2i for a week and a half now, and I love it! This is my first DSLR, and it is rather simple to use, especially if you read the manual. The picture quality is amazing, the kit lens gets the job done, and the camera is rather sturdy, without being heavy. For those of you who are just now jumping in to the world of photography with a DSLR like I am, this camera seems perfect. I do recommend reading the manual so you can get as much out of your camera as possible. Every day I read one or two chapters, take a few practice shots, and right down my results. Makes it a little easier to figure out what kind of shot I want to achieve, without having to totally wing it. I would definitely recommend this camera!

I must say my trip to the store turned out GREAT! We got great deals, great service and a great camera. I spent the rest of the night playing around with it and learning its great features. I would recommend buying the next step up zoom lens, the 55-250mm zoom lense, the basic one that comes with the camera is 18-55mm and is good but doesnt have the zoom I was looking for, so I bought the 55-250mm and MAN what a difference! I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS CAMERA TO ANYONE LOOKING AS A DSLR FOR THE FIRST TIME...LOOK NO FURTHER THAN THE T2i!!!

OMG! love it!

My very first DSLR camera and I'm in LOVE! Ok, so I've seen the picture quality a dslr camera takes and I was amazed. Out of all the dslr cameras out there, I've heard wonders about two leading brands Nikon and Canon. I decided to go for the t2i and I don't regret it. This camera is AMAZING!! Unlike every other review I have read (which are very detailed and the people actually know what they are talking about) I decided to write one for those of us who have no idea what every single button on the camera is for. In other words, a review for those of us who just want to take Awesome photos. SO here it is: -Pictures come out AMAZING! no matter how the lighting in the room is. -Camera itself is easy to use. Lots of functions on it but the manual is to the point and has the info all of us beginners need to know. -I love the option of LiveMode, which lets you use the LCD to take the picture. Most of the dslr cameras I looked into didn't have this opt and I found it annoying to have to look through the tiny opening to snap the pictures. lol I mean once in a while my eye needs a break. lol -Video is really good quality. And it's not hard at ALL to manually focus on video mode, like other reviews have written. Overall Amazing camera! And it's not as bulky as all the Nikon and Sony dslrs. The price is good compared to all dslrs. I LOVE this camera! Canon rocks! :) <3

This camera is simply amazing.

5 stars

From a videography perspective, I found the T2i to be easier to operate than the 7D with essentially the same video quality, and that is what I bought it for. I have minor concerns about the potential for CMOS overheating when the camera is left on too long (waiting for the right shot), but overall the T2i has lived up to my expectations and more. I bought it to augment my Canon camcorder (XH) and it does the job.

We bought this camera as a replacement for the original digital rebel. It is an amazing camera with just the right amount of features. I love the quality of the images taken even in low light. No Flash with Av mode produces crisp images. The autofocus is a little slow in low light, but I usually use the manual mode. While I would never use this camera as my primary video camera it does a good job with a relatively quick startup. We also purchased the EyeFi card with this camera and the setup works great.

Best camera I've ever had

5 stars

I bought the Canon T2i on 6/12/10, and was amazed by this wonderful camera of the picture quality. this is my first (D)SLR, I had a Canon SD780 which took great 720p HD videos but with poor pictures. Then I found out the video is not as good as the SD780, though the T2i could do a lot more cool stuffs like changing your focus on different objects at different distance which the SD780 couldn't do, may be after I spend more time to explore on the T2i, I might found different result. As the picture quality, it is unbeatable, the best I have; by the way, I got to mention the other Canon I had, forgot the exact model number, it was something like Canon 500 (5MP) point-and-shoot, took great pictures, if I could found one of those, I might not upgrade to T2i. Make sure to see the picture I uploaded with this review, I took it the day I bought it. This T2i works great even at low light condition. Great camera, good for first time DSLR user like me the picture file is too big, I choose another one to upload later

I've done quite a bit of research prior to purchasing this camera, and from all the reviews... I can honestly say that each and every positive aspect has lived up to the hype! The T2i not only takes stunning pics, but the video will make you feel like a director... pair it up with a good video editor (there are so many 30 day free trials) that in no time you will be youtube'n! The "Depth of Field" on this camera is absolutely stunning... no more point and shoots for me ;)

wont find anything better under $2000

The only guff I have with this camera is the size, only two fingers fit on the body, but that can be fixed with a battery grip. This camera will out do anything in its price range plus some. Nikon can't even meet the features and specifications for under $1500. The clarity is amazing! I have two Nikon DSLRs and both can not match the image quality at ISOs above 800. The Image stabalizer on the lens is also better than the Nikon's. It overall seems to be a superior camera. Comparing it to the other canon's.... well I chose this over the T1i because for only 100 dollars more i got more megapixels and HD video at a higher resolution and I wanted to stay under 1,000 dollars. Overall, Totally exceeds my expectations!

I love this camera because of the video feature. I also have a Canon XTi and love it just as much except with the new T2i I can use video as well. The only bad thing I would say is that the video doesn't run as smooth as a regular video camera, but it is great for your fast shot video that you want to capture at a moments notice.

Camera itself is excellent for beginners. There has been lots of comparisons of this product with Canon 7D. About that, I think that's worthless. Because when you use both then you'll find out, there a HUGE difference. that's why 7D costs almost double.

Excellent camera!

5 stars

This is my first DSLR and it's a great one. I like the self cleaning sensor. It's small enough to carry everywhere. I like the external audio output where you can attach an external mic to the camera. I like the SDHC memory option. The battery life is great (I've gotten about 400 pictures on a full charge, using the eye finder.) The 9point af system works really well. Love the 3200 ISO, the 1/4000 second shutter speed. I took it to Hawaii this year and was amazed at the picture quality as well as the full HDMI video capibilities. I made a movie which turned out great. This is definitely my favorite Canon. I would highly recommend to anyone who is getting started in photography or is thinking of upgrading to a better model. The price is half of the Canon 7D but it has most of the feature of the 7D except that the EOST2i rebel has 1 DIGIC procesor and the cannon 7D has 2. Buy it, use it, you won't go wrong.

Professional quality at affordable price

5 stars

Very good camera. I have been impressed with image quality. The lens that comes with the camera is acceptable, but I highly recommend a good lens to experience the whole potential of this baby. The 1080p video is simply stunning. Unfortunately, image stabilization does not help much, since this is not a dedicated video camera, and a tripod is highly recommended to obtain good results. But the resolution, sharpness and color of the video with my TAMRON 18-270 lens is unbelievable. Really at professional level. On top, the interchangeable lenses allow you to play with them for different optical effects not usually available with non-professional camcorders. In summary, fantastic camera with an added bonus of a superb HD video camera.

Satisfied with purchase

As a college student I was a littles hesitant spending so much money on a camera, but I desperately wanted to upgrade from my point and shoot. I have only had the camera two weeks but I absolutely LOVE it! I have already used it on a 7 day trip to Hawaii and I am about to leave for Greece for two weeks and will be taking it with me! These trips were the main push behind upgrading now! I've dabbled with photography a little bit when I was younger and am starting to get back into it. The camera is very easy to use, one quick skim of the manual and you can get the basics! I was majorly impressed with the length of the battery too! I purchased an extra one when I bought the camera just in case because I didn't want to risk running out of juice while in Hawaii (beware they are hard to find though . I finally found one at Click Cameras) One charge on the battery lasted me 3 days worth of picture taking (approximately 900 photos per charge) I've already taken some great flower pictures and landscape pictures, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this camera if you are in the market for a new one! With Best Buy's return policy you can check it out for 14 days and then return it if you are not satisfied, but they do charge a restocking fee~ I tried to include a couple of picture below, but it would only let me include one because of the file size~

An Excellent DSLR

A great camera if you are looking for a fully featured DSLR that is compact and easy to lug around. It takes all the great Canon lenses so is very versatile. The standard 18-55 lens performs well, but feels very cheap in its construction, better to get the 18-135 if you want a kit lens. I used it with the Canon 18-200 lens, which matched the camera very nicely. Ultimately I did return mine and traded up to a 60D, mainly because of the improved viewfinder and AF.

Overall I love this camera. It lacks some of the pro features that are offered on the 7d and 5d, however for the price you can't find a better price. Here is what I love about the camera: 1. Ease to Use - The menus are easy to use. The features make it so that you can be up and running quickly, even as a beginner. 2. Video - Full HD video at this price point is amazing. The quality is amazing too. It really stacks up with the 7d when it comes to quality of images. 3. Photos - Captures amazing images while making it easy to change settings. I'm excited to grow as a photographer and learn how to use the camera for video!

I Have Been Seduced By The Rebel T2i

5 stars

This is my maiden voyage into the digital photography world, so I wanted to get a good, solid camera. No point-n-shoot cameras that I would regret buying later on. I wanted a camera that would handle all my recreational and amateur artistic photographic needs. I was NOT disappointed. The Rebel T2i has everything that I could ever want. I am taking my time learning how to program it (as it is obviously more complex than my 30-year old Minolta 35mm). The features/options are amazing, the handling is great, and its light weight is quite a surprise. I should have bought it a long time ago....!!!

The Canon T2i is a GREAT camera for a beginner !

5 stars

I purchased this camera actually for my wife as an upgrade from a point and shoot Olympus. Let me honestly say that there was no special reason that this camera was purchased other than my wife simply saying that it felt very comfortable in her hands. Me being a slightly experienced photographer, I was already somewhat familiar with this camera. I can tell you that as a beginner or even and intermediate user, the Canon T2i exceeds both my wife's and my expectations. The colors produced by this camera both with the flash and without are amazing to say the least. We shot this camera in both low light and other various light settings to get a good feel for how the camera will perform under certain light situations. In low light where you can't use a flash, you may feel a little disappointed; however in all other settings tested, I was very satisfied. If you have never used an SLR before, you will find this camera very user friendly. The manual is pretty good. If you're like me and don't always like to ready the instructions, just put the camera in auto mode and start shooting. The camera has several other modes that can be used as you become more familiar with your camera including a HD video mode that I would seriously suggest you become familiar with. Although not a camcorder in the traditional sense, you will be blown away at your results. I wouldn't waste money on a low end consumer camcorder if you're going to buy this one. Good luck with your purchase and whatever you do, don't allow the sales person to get into an in depth conversation about Nikon vs. Canon. It doesn't matter what you have as long as your're happy with it. They all do the same things for us amateurs.

I had been wanting one of these for some time to replace my old canon 35mm but kept putting off the purchase. Then I was at Best Buy the otherday for something else and I always go over to the camera section just to look. That day the sales associate (Emma) asked if she could help me and I told her I was going on vacation and thinking of upgrading my camera. She was soooo helpful and very knowledgeable. I ended up with the Canon T2i Rebel as well as an extra lense and a very nice case as well as other goodies for the set up. She then told me about the Best Buy training classes and I signed up to have her show me how to run the thing. The class was only supposed to be for 45 min but she spent over an hour with me and even found a quiet room to teach me in. I have been to Best Buy 100's of times and just broused the camera section but because of Emma's wonderful help and guidance I finally got the camera of my dreams. Thank you Emma and Thank you Best Buy, you truly are the BEST!!

I bought this camera because I was taking college for Photography and needed certain specifications that could be done manually. All the professors recommend Canon and this is an awesome camera. I have the 10D which is similar with less megapixels and the T2i is a whole lot lighter!! I also love the IS feature of the lens and makes it a great bargain to buy the camera and lens, not just the body! I think the price is cheap for the amount of camera you're getting and would definately buy it again. I also think you can be an amature and take great photos with this and there are 2 small booklets that come with the camera that give you great tips on using it, even if you're not a professional!! Good luck and happy shooting = )

This is my first DSLR. I wanted to get a great camera for a reasonable price. After shopping around for a while, I settled on the T2i. The great thing about this camera is that it can be as simple or complex to use as you'd like. You can run it on full auto and let the camera help you out, or you can use any of the various settings/programs to take some really creative shots. I haven't bought a new memory card yet. My old 2gb card will hold around 300 jpgs at the highest quality or around 80 RAW files. The lens it comes with is great for closeups, but you'll want to get a long range zoom lens if you plan on taking pictures of anything more than 30 feet away. Overall, it's great and I'm looking forward to using it for years to come.

An extremely delicious camera

5 stars

This is my first SLR purchase and I was quite scared to be honest! I've been using the camera for about the past 3 weeks now and it's amazing how great of pictures you can take by not really knowing anything about the camera. It has quite an extensive array of modes for picture taking (all of which are capable of live view mode or the viewfinder) and recording high def movies at 1080p (30fps) and more! The only thing that has me craving more at the moment is distance. You get a 18-55mm lens with this kit and I ended up picking up the extra 55-250mm lens for longer range photography! Ease of use is fantastic, battery life is great (I get about 700+ shots), picture quality is amazing, the lens that comes included is good, but you are going to want to pick up something better to take advantage of that 18mp sensor!

Good DSLR for beginners

5 stars

I have used super zoom and Powershot canon camera before, i have always problems with indoor picture with point and shoot cameras, this camera has solved all those concerns, i have used it in auto mode only, and i am amazed by picture quality. I have added a UV filter and Polarized filter for outdoor shooting, Camera has lot of features at this level, the price point was $899 very close to D90 Nikon $1199. i bought canon T2i although D90 was attractive option as it one semi pro level camera, i want to learn on t2i and maybe move on higher end later. I bought the extra lens 250 mm, canon back pack and extra battery, thanks to reward zone points, reward certificate and coupons. it was hard to find this camera at BB location, after two weeks of checking i found one and called store to reserve it for me, i picked it up with in few hours, BB let you reserve it for that day for few hours. I have taken few hundred test photos already, i am using iphoto for all the pictures management and editing, Software for mac work flawlessly, Camera does 1080p recording also i have not tried it yet. i think i will stick to photos more but it is nice to have some recording capability.

Great camera!

5 stars

The Canon EOS Rebel T2i is an incredible camera. The pictures come out with incredible resolution such that close ups show freckles on someone's nose(once the photo is blown up). The resolution is so high that any photo I blow up is clear and well defined. The flash is more powerful than the flash on my old Canon EOS Elan II, and I am still learning all the functionality of the camera. I like to shoot a lot of portraits, so the portrait button comes in handy, but I watch the numbers(aperture and F-stop) and also the ISO number, which changes based on the content and lighting of your shot. I will always shoot ISO 100 and may have to change the lighting or the angle of the shot or the mode of the camera to achieve this. Luckily, this camera allows me to do just that. Great camera for the money.

Great camera, just missing a few little things

5 stars

I love this camera. It has a lot of great features. However there are a few things I miss that the 7d has, like more rugged body, better kit lens, highlight warning on photos takes up the whole screen and not just a little thumbnail, the level indicator, buttons on BOTH sides of the lcd screen, and the faster frame rate. But this camera does have a few things going for it that the 7d does not, like scene modes (a biggie for me) cheaper price tag for equal video and photo quality, and a little lighter (not really a big issue though, just what you get used to). I am waiting for them to make a replacement for the 50d that is the perfect balance to these two camera. But with the available choices right now with video, the t2i and 7d are both great. Just research both and know the specs before you purchase. The 7d's specs on the Best Buy site is incorrect in saying it has scene mode, IT DOES NOT HAVE ANY SCENE MODES ON THE DIAL. You really can't go wrong on picture/video quality with either of these two cameras.

Best Digital SLR for the money!!!

5 stars

If you are in the market for a home-owner DSLR (with professional quality), this is the camera for you. This camera has been great thus far. My wife and I bought this camera as a gift to each other for the future arrival of our new born son (justified the price by the price of newborn, 1m, 3m, 6m, etc. pictures). This camera takes photos that you would think that a professional took. With it's 18mp, it actually has more clarity than some of the older professional SLRs out there still being used. Being that it is a new SLR, this camera is not for a beginner to cameras. Although it's functions are pretty self intuitive, we have only used about 5% of it's capability, in terms of functions that is. Best Buy tried to sell us an additional battery for it, and if you would use it to make videos or snap a 1000 pictures in a day you will need it. But we charged the battery when we got it home, and did not have to charge it for 2 weeks taking approximately 500 pictures in that time frame.

This camera is extremely amazing. I also own the Canon XSi. It is a big step up. For anyone looking to upgrade or even to get a new camera withing a $1000 price range this is the hands down best camera you could get. The video is great. The pictures I have taken I have had printed as 24x36 poster prints and they look awesome. I would definately recommend. The picture I included is a cropped version of a picture I took of my eye. Its one of the first pictures I took with the camera. The uncropped version is even better, but because of the MB limit on pictures I had to downsize it.

A Best Buy

5 stars

Great camera....it's what I wanted...the kit was necessary and I have no regrets. The battery lasts longer than I expected. You need a big card to record Video HD, so get one when you purchase. In the box, no card, no cables (for HD)..so be prepared to shell out a little more money but it's worth it. Thats why I got the kit. I handed over my Canon 30D to my son. This camera is awsome. If you're thinking about it, don't think anymore...go get it! This camera takes fanstatic indoor sports photos...basketball, wrestling, you name it, without flash.. You can actually read the name on the basketball as it sails through the air. Very few blurry shots. 2 IS lenses included in package.

Excellent Camera

5 stars

I also have a Canon 30D - and the T2i is superior in many, many ways. Exposure is very accurate - and kit lens is sharp. There are just a few things the buyer needs to know. 1. Even with the dust removal system, I found quite a few noticeable dust spots on the sensor that did not want to come off. To check for this, shoot a blank white wall as far out of focus as possible at f22. Shoot at a +1 stop exposure and check the image at large magnification for dust spots. Most small dust spots will not show on your images at apertures f11 or larger. 2. A nice feature is that the camera will work with a low-cost infrared remote for tripod or self-portrait shots. 3. The HD video needs a SDHC card with a speed rating of 6 or higher. Lower speed cards result in jumpy video. Also, get a Mini-HDMI to HDMI cable to show videos on an HDTV using the camera as the player. You also need to know that few computers are fast enough to show the videos the camera takes without severe jumpy images. This is not the camera's fault - it is that full HD Video need more computing power than you might have. Plan on using the camera connected to your HDTV to watch the videos unless you have a very recent, powerful computer. Overall, the T2i is one of Canon's best bargains - ever!

Not impressed with video

1 stars

I purchased this camera for home use, mainly for the pic/video features. I watched and read tons of reviews and it sounded great. Everyone said 1080p was great. Not so. It's nothing like a video camera in any way, and it's very difficult to create anything that looks even close to good. So beware of the video. As for the pictures, when in auto or creative auto this camera takes some of the best detail and color i've ever seen. The problem is even beginners want more than auto eventually. Why buy a dslr if you only want the limited auto. The reason for my low rating.......expensive with poor video. Spend a little more for the 50d and you a semi pro picture only camera with a much better included lens. I returned mine and got the 50d and i'm much happier.

Perfect camera for its class

5 stars

After months of comparing cameras I finally landed on this one, and I'm glad I did. For a first time DSLR user, this camera is nothing short of perfect. Unless you're planning on buying a camera for a business then this is the camera for you. The photo quality surprises me still after I've had it for a week or so. The T2i will likely exceed your expectations in terms of picture quality. It's just outstanding. Even with the kit lens the photos still come out looking very nice. Imagine it with something better like an L lens! As far as the video recording capability goes, I don't even use it. The way I see it, if you want to record video, go buy a VIDEO camcorder. Not a DSLR. Those that have given this camera a bad review just because the video recording isn't PERFECT are dumbing it down. The video is an extra feature and from the examples I've seen it works just fine. The build quality isn't the best, but remember you're still under the $1000 mark. If you're planning on being serious about photography, this is a great starting camera and is cheap enough that you can invest other money in some glass.

Little harder than a P&S but far worth it

5 stars

I never used a DSLR but wanted to try it. I am far from a professional photographer but with this camera you cant tell. I wanted to see if DSLR is better quality than a P&S and I am shocked to say the hassle of changing lenses is worth the out come. A P&S gives a simple clear picture much like a 35mm film camera but ths camera makes the picture look so high def that it is like looking at the item in real life even though it is in a picture. I am not sure if my review is true to all DSLRs but I have owned 3 canon cameras and never complained about quality.

POSTED BY Fatdaddy1 on August 06, 2010

What a great camera

I have used only P&S cameras or a DSLR-type camera. I did alot of research and decided to settle on the Rebel T2i. I am going to college for Photographic Imaging and needed a good DSLR for this. I was impressed by the reviews of owners and with the price and features of the T2i. I have onlly had it 1 month now, and I am totaly blown away by the ease and versitility of it. I have never before been able to get the pictures I am now taking. Being able to set high or slow shutter speeds has given me a new dimension to my photos. So far, I have not found any problems with this camera. It has far exceeded all my expectitations. I would tell any one that the proce for this camera is well worth it for the capabilities that it has.

5 stars

I reviewed this and many other DSLR cameras in this segment and found that the T2i fit my bill, with the ability to take pictures with stunning quality I have found that the movie mode with the compatible 1080p at 24 fps to be the deal breaker. With the ability to use any EF and EF-S lenses that are out in the market today it makes this camera very versatile depending on the situation. Even though this camera is not waterproof like the 7D it has many capabilities in it that make this a nice user friendly camera.

Great camera..... BUT !!

4 stars

This camera takes stunning pictures and video but you need to be ready to purchase a few memory cards if planning on doing any video recording. You also have to make sure that you have all the components needed to view and store the video with the camera. You need to have a blue ray dvd burner! if not you will not be able to store and view videos in HD. You can store them on your hard drive but they will take up plenty of your hard drive space. If you do no thave a blue ray dvd burner and decide to record on a regular dvd then this camera is a waste of money. You also have to make sure you have capable playback devices like an HD tv or a computer capable of brodcasting in hd. A 7 min video recorded in HD is over a gig of memory. You have the option of recording in a format that is NOT hd but kinda defeats the purpose of an HD camcorder. You need to look into the specs of your computer before purchasing this camera as well. If your computer does not have atleast 3gb of memory an up to date processor and video card then the playback on your computer is going to be very choppy. Looks like you are constantly blinking or someone was trying to duplicate the special effects of the movie the RING. Very choppy. Do your research about storage and playback before purchasing.

Great for moving beyond point and click digital.

5 stars

I found this camera recommended on a photography blog I follow. I waited several months to purchase it after reviewing it's features on several comparison sites. It's everything I wanted in my desire to move beyond point and click with my photos. The camera is easy to hold and handle. The automatic modes are conveniently located on a dial at the top of the camera. Most other buttons are within a thumb's reach. The battery life is great for me. I LOVE the large viewing screen, but surprisingly have found that I prefer to use the great viewfinder on this camera! I've found that 18 megapixels is too much for the type of photography I do...grandchildren and scenery. It made photo files too large to quickly load into my editing program (9 mb). So I quickly and easily reduced the image from highest to medium (8 mb) and the files are more manageable, 2-3 mb. And the photos are still crystal clear! I've only had the camera 6 weeks and still have a lot to learn as I move toward going manual. I don't plan to go pro, but this camera would be a great starter camera for someone that wants to.

Great first DSLR (SLR for that matter)

5 stars

I have never had anything but a point-n-shoot and this is my first "Real" camera. Since I never had a camera with the info LCD on the top right of the body, I never got used to it. So, all the info being displayed on the back screen really isn't an issue to me like some. Also the deal about the T2i not having a thumb wheel really isn't that bad since I never had one to begin with. One of the thing I am exploring is DSLR Video. The auto focus is useless unless you are doing an interview video where your subject is always in the same spot. If you are doing run-n-gun then you are going to need to get proficient at manually focusing your subject. The High Resolution screen on the back is awesome. When you compose correctly they look stunning even on that screen. The microphone actually pics up quite a bit of audio. I am really impressed with it considering it is only the built in microphone. The speaker too also puts out a good amount of audio. The battery depending on what you do is great. For example, one day my sister and I were in town all day and I used the camera connected to a telescope for about 30 full resolution JPEG images. After I was done she used the camera to do a photo shoot for some friends. I set it to take everything in RAW + JPEG and she took about 150 pictures. After that in the evening we both took about 200 more, just goofing around town on the same battery. If you're a beginner like me, then I would definitely recommend this camera.

I started out 18 years ago with the Eos rebel X model 35 mm, and most digitals just can't replace the speed of the 35 mm until we bought this one. T2i Eos rebel is far above any digital camera on the market for both still shots and video quality.I do not take the time to write reviews but this camera takes photo's at a fast rate and I am getting several of the still shots and I love the video. I went to buy a video camera, and now I have two of the functions in one phenomial camera. The zoom lense Ef-s 55-250mm is great I am so happy with this camera. Preserving family memories it's worth the investment.

I purchased the Canon T2i after much deliberation and research. I found that there were slight differences between the T2i & 7D. Which I can not tell the difference and the other Pro Photographers I shoot with can't understand why many my pictures are so much clearer and life-like. I laugh, because not only are many of my pictures clearer, but I saved $950 in which that went toward an IS USM pro lens.....so the 2 together make my work better!!! If you were to ask me....I would say BUY this camera!! If you want it to feel heavier...buy the battery grip! And as far as the weather protection...I don't shoot in the rain or desert....GREAT BUY!!! save money!!

One of the nice added benefits is true HD video with sound. You'll also love the live viewfinder (if you'r coming off a point and shoot camera). Nice added bonus is the Image stabilizer lenses. I am also happy that Canon moved away from the old problematic CF card. No more bending pins in your card reader or camera slot either. SDHC cards are great... don't even mess with class 4 or class 6 cards. Make sure you use the new class 10 SDHC cards or your camera will lock up when shooting video! Go straight to Newegg.com for a good value 16GB class 10 card. I paid $35 for a lifetime warranty card! Why mess with $150+ for a sandisk? That's a waste in my opinion. You're paying for the name. I definitely wouldn't pass up this camera though. It's great. We use it for our photography studio. You won't be disappointed!

This is my first DSLR camera. I did a lot of research before purchasing the Cannon T2i. Right now I am primarily using it in the automatic setting and the pics are GREAT! The only glitch I have noticed so far is that sometimes if I am shooting multiple pics with the flash on, the camera gives me a busy signal while the flash recharges. Apperantly this is a common issue. I have read the internal flashes take longer to recharge than attachment flashes... I will have to invest in an additional flash someday. I bought the 55-250mm lens and 55-85mm with the camera and right now this is all I need! I am VERY happy with this camera! Now I just need to take a lesson to learn more about it! The Canon T2i is small but mighty. It does all the things my pro-colleagues can do, even if I don't know how to do them--yet. For anyone who is dragging their feet and hesitating to buy a DSLR, I encourage you to jump in and do it. I choose to work with smaller, less cumbersome equipment, and this camera fits the bill. I love how my digital images leaped in quality immediately, and with zero lag time--that alone is worth it. I recommend getting the flash, too. I spent about a week without one, and though the built in flash is great in a pinch, the external unit is essential in many situations. Thanks, too, to Best Buy for honoring the sale price after the camera was unavailable for so long. Don't forget to buy the skylight filter and an extra lens cap (just in case).

Great Camera (If You Have The Right Media Card)

4 stars

Got the bundle pack with memory card. I read the manual before using the camera, and saw that it needed Class 6 or higher for video use. The bundle came with a Class 4, so I tried it out anyways. With the processor in the camera, you are going to need to get a higher class anyways. The pictures turn out grainy, and the videos are jumpy and very grainy with a Class 4. Friends say go with a Class 10 for a better processing/buffering speed for evening/night shots and for video. Without it, the camera will not hit its full potential.

Amazing Camera!

5 stars

I was never into photography and with our 2nd on the way my wife was tired of the digital cameras we had and the delayed shutter response, missing those special moments. The day after our daughter was born (2 days ago!) I finally decided to take the plunge and get a real camera. I was torn between the Nikon D3100 and this one. Both had excellent reviews and the Nikon was slightly cheaper. After tons of research and finally seeing them up close and personal I decided on the Canon. (Ironically I got the Nikon bag heh) I am absoultely blown away by the quality of the photos and especially how incredible pictures look in a dark room with no flash. The pictures are actually brighter than they look to the naked eye! I am now intriqued with photography and want to learn about all the features available on this camera and going to pick up the 55-255 mm lens soon! I had friends that also want to get the camera after seeing the pictures I took in the room! Great buy! Photography convert now :) PS - make sure you get a bag and proper memory if you want to take HD videos (Class 10, I picked up the 8 BG 30 GB/s Sandisk, didnt have 16 GB in stock).

Highly Recommended

This is my first D-SLR as I begin my photography business. Its easy to use for a beginner and after a couple of photography workshops I should be able to understand all the advanced features as well. Picture quality is unbelievable! I've only been using auto for the last 2 weeks and I know once I understand how to use the manual settings, the quality will be mind blowing. Great price for a starter camera. I got the package deal with the extra telephoto lens and carrying bag. Definitely recommend!

Outstanding so far

5 stars

As a former 35mm SLR user prior to digital, I have used many non-slr digital products through the years. This is my first move to digital SLR and I am really enjoying the T2i. No complaints as yet since I really researched prior to purchase and this camera delivers on what is promised. Would highly recommend this camera. Also recommend you check out Digital Photography and Cnet reviews prior to purchase to be sure you know what you will be getting. No disappointments as yet in my first several hundred photos.

Love it!!!

5 stars

I am very happy with my new camera. I have owned it for over a month now and have taken some amazing pictures. I am a begining to SLR photography and have been able to learn this camera quickly. We even took our Christmas pictures with this camera (with the wireless remote and a tripod). It allows you to use standardized settings or to choose your own. The manual is very easy to read and even gives tips for beginers to help the pictures turn out perfectly. This is an exception camera for a great price! I love it!
