Do you want to take a portrait photograph of her Majesty?
Graduates of photography from Scotland are preparing their cameras as they vie for the chance to take a portrait picture of the Queen.
The project has been opened to photo students who have graduated from Scotland-based educational establishments in the past four years. The portrait photos of the Queen will be displayed at the Scottish Parliament.
The judges for this contest include famed photographer Harry Benson CBE, who will choose one winner for the photo contest.
Benson will also serve as the winner’s mentor during the portrait pictorial with the Queen, which will be taken at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in the summer.
“Millions and millions of people have photographed the Queen, but only a select few have ever been asked to take a special portrait of Her Majesty” Benson claimed.
Benson added “I am looking forward to learning more about many of the new photographers emerging from Scotland and am delighted to have the chance to help mentor the eventual winner.”
The photography contest stemmed from a request to have a portrait of the Queen displayed at the Scottish Parliament.
Interested photographers will have to submit a proposal on the treatment they will do for the Queen’s portrait photograph commission. Additionally, applicants would have to submit examples of their work.
Educational establishments in Scotland which run photography courses are asked to nominate two graduates for the honour.
The result of the photo contest will be announced by May 2010.
