Pentax releases the dashingly rugged digital camera, Optio W90, for the weekend warriors.
If your idea of a fun weekend is scaling a steep mountain, climbing a rockwall or wind surfing in the Northumbrian coastline, then the Pentax Optio W90 is your rough compact digital camera. The W90 even comes with its own carabineer straps!
The Pentax Optio W90 is dustproof, waterproof (6 meters/ 20 feet), coldproof (up to 14° F) and shock-resistant for drops of up to 1.2 meters.
The Pentax Optio W90 has a 12 MP sensor, 5x optical zom and a 28-140 mm equivalent lens.
You can see your photos on a 2.7 LCD screen with the Pentax Optio W90.
Other features of the Optio W90 are the High Definition video capability and the Digital Microscope mode.
What is a Digital Microscope mode? Pentax said the mode delivers “a magnified view of miniscule subjects difficult to observe closely with the naked eye, and makes it possible to capture fine-detailed images of such subjects”. Three LED macro lights were installed on the face of the barrel which allows the subject to be clearly and brightly displayed on the LCD monitor. The Option W90 camera’s Digital Microscope mode comes in handy when observing the wonders of nature and photographing such subjects as leaf veins and tiny insects.
For divers, the W90 has a waterproof housing (optional accessory) which goes down to up to 60 meters/ 200 feet.
The selling price for the camera will be at a hefty US$326.49.
