Nikon has made it loud and clear that it’s brewing a pot of digital imaging awesomeness by creating a ‘new market’ of Nikon cameras.
In a news from Reuters, Nikon has made four major announcements.
First, Nikon is expected to compete directly (and conquer) Sony NEX with a new Nikon camera model.
The Tokyo based company said it is ready to create Nikon cameras that will directly compete with those tiny, high-end cameras such as NEX series.
Speculations from the internet news source (blogs and Nikon enthusiasts forums) have hypothesized that Nikon will try to infiltrate the market of small bodied cameras that perform like DSLR much like Sony’s NEX and Panasonic’s Micro Four Third cameras.
Second, a much speculated and anticipated mystery model Nikon camera will be coming out this September 2010.
Now for more interesting Nikon news, the company wants to create a new camera segment. No it wont be like Sony NEX and it wont be like ‘mirrorless’ cameras.
As we all know Olympus and Panasonic created a market dubbed as Mirco Four Thirds cameras which are ‘mirrorfree’. These cameras almost have the same quality as digital SLRs but in a smaller body.
Nikon wants to veer away from the trending mirrorless market and DSLR and create a new kind of Nikon camera.
According to Reuters report “Several camera blogs have said that Nikon will unveil its long-awaited new generation model at the Photokina expo in Cologne, starting on Sept. 21, but Makoto Kimura (a photo enthusiast) declined to comment on the timing of the launch.
Surrounded by a set of rare photographs of Pablo Picasso shot with Nikon cameras, Kimura said he wanted to help change what people do with the photographs they take.
“We have tested things like a head-mounted display,” Kimura said. “We want people to have more ways of enjoying their photos rather than just going home and looking at them on their television or computer.”
Third, Nikon’s bearish US and European market will not get worst.
The world’s third largest camera maker is said that the downturn of Nikon camera sales will end this quarter. The sales of Nikon SLR will see no moderate change in the US and European market.
