Doing landscape photography is a humbling experience especially if you shoot majestic locations such as the Yosemite National Park or the Alaskan Glaciers. Holding that digital camera of yours while aiming at awe inspiring backgrounds can leave a photographer overwhelmed with shooting landscape.

The first thing you must do with landscape photography is to take care of the composition. Avoid taking dull pictures of the landscape photography which has probably been shot by the millions of travellers who came before you. In composing your landscape photograph think ‘Will this photo be better than the one sold at the gift shop for $1.50?’

One example of a dull photo is one with a lot of sky and only a thin strip of land. Yes the clouds are pretty but your grandmother probably has the same shot. Transform that commonplace image simply by paying attention to shadow, color and detail of the scene which is vital in producing amazing landscape photography.
