Smoke PhotoDigital Photography Tip: Bored? Try 5 Weekend Photo Project

You find yourself at home, bored? Get up, motivate yourself and make a short and inspiring photo excursion. Here are a few weekend photo projects we can suggest…

Weekend Photo Project # 1: China Town Photoshoot- So what if you can’t travel somewhere exotic like Mongolia, there’s Chinatown! One of the most interesting location can be found in this hyperactive district. Take a photo of that Chinese cook preparing your soup or do a close up shot of those weird herbs they are selling. In China town, there’s always something happening, so get your camera ready.

Weekend Photo Project # 2: The Ice Art – Grab several cubes of ice and put it in a nice glass. Take a desk lamp and use it as your light source. Set your camera (if you have a DSLR) on Aperture and Shutter Speed. Play with the composition and capture everything about the ice, up to its melting point. Did you come out with artsy shots?

Weekend Photo Project # 3: Bokeh Photo – Practice this technique, which we discussed earlier. Click the link

Weekend Photo Project #4: Christmas Tree Light Graffiti: Light graffiti in photography is the in thing so join the bandwagon. Whip that lights and see what shapes it might form. For the more subtle light, try a glow in the dark stick or sparkler.

Put your digital SLR on a tripod and set the ISO between 400-800. During the exposure you’ll want to ‘draw’ an image or word with a beam of light such as glow stick, torch or sparkler for example. Dial in an exposure long enough for you to finish the word or image, and start the release with the self-timer. Get in front of the lens and begin whipping the lights or drawing with the stick. Finish the image by holding the torch steady and turn it off.

Wear black for better results.

Weekend Photo Project # 5: Kite Camera – Aerial photography is fun but expensive. So settle for kite cameras. It’s really simple, take a durable camera you own and tie it with a kite. Set your camera to video mode and just turn them into photos afterward. Set the kite free to fly.

Weekend Photo Project # 6: Smoke Photo – Buy an incense, a bunch of them and light them up. Put them in a stick holder. Ask someone to move the incense a bit (for vibration) so you can shoot the swirls and shapes. Adjust the colors in Photoshop for added flair.

Share your photo project! We’ll post them on our site! Good luck.
