If you like function over form, then the Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5V is the digital camera for you.

This 10.2 mega pixel camera has functions that appeal to tech-friendly snap shooters.

Let’s start with Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5V’s backlit sensor that solves low light performance. It also has a good 10x optical zoom, good considering its a compact camera.

Another cool feature of the Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5V is the Handheld Twilight mode and Anti-motion Blur, both features allows you to take sharp pictures in spite shaky hands and little light source. It’s an amazing feature that not most digital cameras have and which Sony has perfected.

There is also the iSweep Panorama feature that makes panoramas as easy as pressing the shutter and “sweeping” your intended scene with the camera.

You can also shoot HD video with the Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5V.

Another awesome feature is the GPS capability in which the camera can pinpoint the exact location where you took the photo via geotag. You can view the location via Google maps.

Highlights of the Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5V
10.2 megapixel “Exmor R” CMOS image sensor: This backlit designed sensor moves the circuitry that normally covers a typical compact’s sensor to the rear of it, theoretically improving its light gathering capabilities
10x zoom “G” Lens 4.25-42.5mm (25-250mm 35mm film equivalent): 10 elements in 7 groups including 4 aspheric elements make for an impressive compact lens, but one hampered by lack of aperture range (basically f/3.5 and f/8.0).
3 Inch LCD Display: The large display is nice enough and works well even in bright light, but lags the competition with a resolution of 230K.
10 FPS Continuous Shooting: In burst mode the HX5V fires of 10 shots in one second, impressive for sure, but it takes almost 10 seconds to then write all those files to memory.
1080i AVCHD Movie Mode: The HX5V allows users to choose between AVCHD (better quality) or MP4 (easier to edit) formats for video. In addition to 1080i at 60fps, the HX5V also shoots 720p at 30fps, and 640×480 at 30fps. The HX5V also records stereo sound.
Integrated GPS and Compass: The HX5V can tag photos with longitude, latitude, and altitude, and also provides a useful compass. The GPS can be turned off to mitigate privacy concerns if desired.

Here are the top 5 good buy digital cameras found in the shopping mecca of the internet universe, Amazon.com. We enumerated bargain cameras that made it to the top list and garnered good customer reviews. We did extra research to see how the point and shoot cameras rated for professionals in the digital imaging world.

Take note, the digital cameras listed are not the latest cameras to come out of the market in 2010, but these are the top rated.

Hopefully, in just a quick glance, this digital camera review could give you options as you decide your next bargain and digital camera purchase.

1. Canon PowerShot SX20IS

- The camera has 12.1 mega-pixels and a fantastic 20x wide angle optical zoom. It takes HD videos and uses .mov movie format which is easily unloadable to site like YouTube. The 20x zoom can be used for video taking which is great. The 2.5 LCD screen can be tilted enabling different angle shots. The digital SLR type body looks great while still offering point and shoot control.

Price: US$ 349.95, down from a US$601.03

Good: LCD that can be tilted. Excellent macro focus. Can zoom during movie capture. Uses SD cards.

Bad: Runs with AA batteries. A little slow in CCD sensor. A little bit blurry in low light.

Verdict: Not a standout but good value for money with the 20x megazoom

2. Nikon L20

- The Nikon L20 has 10 mega-pixel and a 3.6 optical zoom. A huge 3.0 LCD screen is convenient for taking pictures although it has no view finder for sunny days.

Price: US$ 89.00 down from release price of US279.95

Good: The price! 3.0 LCD is huge and fairly nice color display. The camera is so easy to use, it’s the kind of camera you give to grandma (if your grandmother was 70 years old and afraid of gadgets). Produce nice quality print.

Bad: Runs with AA batteries. Very slow processor. Basic camera with no fancy features. Slow (oh yeah, we mentioned that. Bulky

Verdict: For US89.00 it’s a reliable camera, basic, no fuss and a good buy. For techies and semi-techies stay away from this one.

3. Sony Cybershot DSC-W290

- The Sony W290 has a 12.1 mega-pixel sensor and an average 5x optical zoom. It takes high definition movie and has Sony stereo which is a nice touch. Sony colors are known to be brilliant. It has a 3.0 LCD and a smile capture feature.

Price: US$ 166.45 down from US$229.99

Good: Cool design, easy interface and practical controls. Has wide-angle and 5x zoom. 3.0 LCD

Bad: Video has no optical zoom. Expensive memory stick, no SD memory option.

Verdict: Excellent beginner’s camera with a nice price to feature ratio.

4. Canon Powershot SD1200

- We love to think Canon is one of the top (if not the top) manufacturers of point-and-shoot cameras. The SD1200 is one of the best out there. The design is terrific, not too slim but sturdy. The finish of the camera looks expensive. It has 10 megapixels, 3x optical zoom and has a 2.5 PureColor LCD screen.

Price: US$ 149.00 down from US$179.00

Good: Classy camera finish and comes in fun colors (pink, orange, blue, gray, green. Fast CCD processor means less lag time when taking photos. Amazing picture quality and colors! Decent low light photos.

Bad: The picture in LCD looks better than when you upload to your computer. Only has 3x optical zoom.

Verdict: Excellent camera for those who want a small camera that does amazing pictures. Fast and worth the US149.00. We guarantee the Canon SD1200 to be excellent.

5. Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3

- The Lumix ZS3 has 12 mega-pixels sensor and 12x optical zoom. Fast sensor and takes quality photos. Offers 720p HD movie with stero mode. Large 3.0 LCD screen.

Price: US$ 239.95 down from US$349.95

Good: Can take 720p movies and uses zoom during movie capture. Zoom and wide angle lens in small body is excellent!

Bad: Few manual control for a US$239 camera

Verdict: Great camera for those who use automatic features. Panasonic creates nice pictures and vibrant color. 12 zoom lens is great for small body.

Compared to similar blogger cameras like Flip or the Kodak Zi line, the Sony Bloggie is the best designed and probably the best looking mini camcorder in the market.

Plus Sony Bloggie is also a camera best buy for its US$170 to US$200 price tag.

If you’re a blogger who records food reviews, makes a movie of events, stalks pets, documents shopping purchases and likes to take videos or pictures of yourself (doing the most mundane thing)… then this is your camera.

Blogs have become a real medium of influence and it is validated when company giants such as Sony produces a product specifically for bloggers.

WHY SONY BLOGGIE IS A BLOGGER’S CAMERA…

▪ It’s small, light and not a dainty camera (no guilt in scratching it)

▪ Video recording is an amazing 1280×720 at 60 frames per second (a typical point-and-shoot camera only records 30fps). Plus Sony Bloggies shoots Full High Definition (HD) videos at 1920×1080 at 30fps

▪Hassel free blogger camera! I mean if you happen to spy, say a Brad Pitt/Jennifer Aniston rendezvous, you just press that Sony Bloggie play button instead of fumbling around with a button congested high end point and shoot camera.

▪ Built-in USB connector allows easy uploading. Plus Sony Bloggie movie and photo formats are compatible with YouTube, Blogspot, Wordpress, Tumblr, Facebook or whatever popular cyberspace address bloggers live in

▪It’s like a mini tripod. The Sony Bloggie has a 270 swivelling lens supported by the square Sony Bloggie body. So can just lay the camera down on the table, swivel the lens and viola… you can record yourself.

▪The pistol grip

▪360° Panoramic video recording. For an extra US$20, you get the Sony Bloggie kit which has a 4GB memory card and a 360° lens so you can shoot panoramic videos.

▪Batteries can be charged by plugging the Sony Bloggie in your computer

▪Memory uses Sony Memory Stick (expensive) or the generic SD cards.

THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU BUY…

▪Artsy photo camera this is not. It only takes 5 mega-pixel still photos

▪Low light video recording is not the best

▪No flash

▪Sony Bloggie needs bigger screen instead of just the 2.3 inches (6.0 cm)

Checkout Sony Bloggies on http://www.sony.com

A BLOGGERS CAMERA REVIEW ON SONY BLOGGIE…

By Cammy A. (add her in Facebook as Cammy Angel)

On a personal perspective, I would buy this camcorder because I love cameras (obviously). I like to have cameras that have suit specific photography intentions.

My artsy mood makes me take out my Nikon D200. If I go clubbing with friends, I bring the slim Sony T900, it takes great still photos. If I’m ‘working’ on a blog post, I use the Sony Bloggie, its more continent. Plus it could serve as my backup camera I could store in the bag at all times. The sparse camera buttons and features mean I just press a button and shoot! No lagtime.

However I’m still undecided if the US$170 price tag is worth it. If they lowered it down by US$50… Then were talking.

* Accepts Memory Stick Duo/Memory Stick PRO Duo/Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo (not included)

Sony DSC TX7 is the newest family member of the T-Series and one of its most overachieving. It’s the world’s first digital point and shoot camera with full High Definition movie (1920 x1080 60i).

All About the Video

This 2010, point and shoot digital cameras are all about video capabilities. Just check the reviews we made on Canon (a fierce competitor for Sony as King of point and shoot camera). Camera giants are taking the competition to the video/movie capturing playing field and these leaders (Sony, Canon, etc) are showing us amazing technology that’s as exciting as a summer movie blockbuster!

Sony TX7 is leading the pact with advance movie making digital cameras with its 60 frames per second video (yes, 60!). That is an amazing performance for a slim point and shoot camera!

It also runs in a video format called Advanced Video Codec High Definition (AVCHD) video capability which means a leap in quality of video compared to other digital cameras. Unfortunately though the AVCHD is sometimes an unfriendly format and is not so easy when, say, you want to upload video to You Tube.

The Sony TX7 allows you to burn the HD movies you make into DVD at full 1080 clarity. The TX7 lets you put it on a Blu-ray disc player or watch it directly on your Play Station 3. The videos really are smoother and crispier when shot with Sony TX7 camera. Movie files are limited to 29 minutes each.

Why Worry, It’s Auto mode

The Sony TX7 is an intelligent camera and has the one of the best auto mode features. For example, take a picture of a party it uses its face detection and if you take a picture of, say, your thumb it switches the mode to Macro. This camera thinks so you can just point and shoot that photo. Sony boasts that the TX7 has Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization reduces blur without impacting image quality, Face Detection and Smile Shutter technology, which captures faces and smiles naturally.

The DSC-TX7 camera is also compatible with the Party-shot (model IPT-DS1) automatic photographer, which pans, tilts, zooms and adjusts composition to capture spontaneous images.

There is also an “On-demand shot” mode which is activated with the touch sensor. The “On-demand shot” mode, allows users to select the shutter timing without losing the advantage of Party-shot’s built-in intelligence.

Flash Power

In spite low light you still get decent pictures because of this camera’s back-illuminated “Exmor R” CMOS.

Buttoned Away

You just tap away with Sony TX7’s 3.5 LCD touch screen display.

Panorama Mama

The Sony TX7 has a Sweep Panorama Mode that lets you expansively capture mountains and cityscape and seascapes as easy and painless as possible. Just press the shutter and shoot the scene with a sweeping motion. The camera does the rest.

10 images in one second

You want to capture that soccer ball game like ESPN? The Sony TX7 can shoot 10 images in one second at full 10.2 megapixel resolution. It uses a mechanical shutter so distortion of the images is reduced.

TransferJet It!

The Sony TX7 is also equipped with a TransferJet technology which is an advantage if you have VAIO F Series notebook because you can do wireless transfer with the Sony Memory Stick. .

TX7 camera will be available in silver, blue and red at about US$400.

Is your body as beach worthy as the Sony Cyber-shot TX5, the thinnest and smallest underwater camera in the world? Hmmm, this Sony TX5, slimmest underwater camera is such an attention grabber it may be the diversion you need from that ‘holiday weight’ you’re trying to hide and shed.

Technology really is taking over real life when digital cameras, and an underwater one at that, is sexier than its owner. However, is there more to this Sony TX5 than just pure sexiness?

Yes! Sony made sure it’s first underwater camera is both brains and beauty. The Sony TX5, dubbed as the slimmest and thinnest certified waterproof camera, can go up to 10 feet deep, for an hour.

The TX5 may be as thin as a deck of cards but it’s a packed semi rugged camera. This means the Sony TX5 is also shockproof (it’ll survive a 5-foot drop), freeze proof (14°F), and dust proof. So you can use this point and shoot on the beach, on a rugged jungle trek, a safari or on your next snowboarding adventure.

The Sony TX5 also has a 3 inch touch screen LCD although it doesn’t have a viewfinder. But you can focus on your subject, operate the menu and share photos and videos with a touch of the screen—wet or dry.

The 10.2 mega pixel, thinnest underwater camera, has a 4x optical zoom.

The Sony TX5 also allows you to capture great underwater videos with its HD movie recording (1280 x 720 at 30p).

It is also Sony’s first digital camera with an “Exmor R” CMOS sensor.

Additionally, the 10.2 megapixel model is Sony’s first digital still camera with an “Exmor R” CMOS sensor.

Sony’s impressive “Exmor R” technology features a 10 frames-per-second continuous shooting burst mode. So the TX5 can capture that belly flop contest with much accuracy!

Another reason to buy the Sony TMX 5 is you can shoot panoramic photos of underwater or mountain views with the Intelligent Sweep Panorama™ feature.

The Intelligent Sweep Panorama™, another “Exmor R” sensor’s feature, combines separate captures, detects faces and subject motion and intelligently adjusts the width while stitching the images together, resulting in natural looking panoramic photos.

The “Exmor R” sensor also boast better light sensitivity for the Sony TX5.

It has a Backlight Correction High Dynamic Range (HDR. This allows for a better image in spite low light and backlight situations. HDR offers a solution for strong backlight situations which typically result in either dark shadows in the foreground or a washed out background. Sony’s “Exmor R” sensor and BIONZ® processor help to correct these issues.

Similar Sony’s newest point and shoot camera, the TX5 runs in both Memory Stick (PRO Duo) and class-four and above SD/SDHC memory cards.

Sony’s accessories for the TX5 underwater camera include a soft carrying case and a floating strap.

Priced at US$350 (it may be a bit hefty but you get what you pay for), it is available in silver, black, pink, red and green. You can get your hand on the Sony TX5 this April.
