Have you been bitten by the photography bug and want to invest on a great digital SLR?

We recommend the Nikon D5000. The D5000 kit is available at Amazon UK for £516.92.

The Nikon D5000 is a well balanced camera that does excellent in size, weight and price.

We warn you after your purchase of a Nikon D5000 you will have the following conditions:

1.Find every weekend excuse to go on mini excursions including photogenic Chinatown, the zoo, the local park, that neighbour’s garden with amazing flowers, etc.

2.The mini excursion may progress to full fledge photography excursion to exotic places like Cambodia!

3. Start a Flickr account and start stalking others in Flickr.

4. Become a fan of photo geeks like Ken Rockwell

5. Check in everyday on the latest news and reviews in camera.co.uk

6. Spend a lot of money on equipment.

7. Spend a lot (and I mean a lot) of time talking about photography.

Just giving you a warning on what’s in store for you when you take photography as a hobby.

So why do we recommend the Nikon D5000?

Well you can pay more for other higher end cameras but you’ll just waste money because it won’t make your pictures any more better. The Nikon D5000 is less heavier and the features are easier to operate and understand.

Save your cash for other camera equipment, like a good zoom lens or a flash.

The Nikon D5000 has the same key aspects as Nikon high end models like the D90, this includes the image sensor, Live View and HD movie recording.

WHAT IT HAS TO OFFER

The Nikon D5000 gets an upgraded CMOS sensor of 12.3 megapixel (the D40 used to have 10.2).

Same as the higher-end D90, the D5000 also has the same base sensitivity range of 200-3200 ISO with Lo-1 and Hi-1 options extending it to 100 and 6400 ISO respectively. It also features a vibrating low pass filter (for sharper images) and Nikon’s Airflow system for less dust problem.

The D5000 is a quiet camera and is reviewed as being as quiet as a Leica rangefinder. This is an important feature especially when you want to do travel and street photography in which discreetness is a big factor.

The Nikon D5000 digital camera is the first Nikon DSLR that’s designed to have a swivel Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen. This feature allows the photographer to shoot more freely as the term “Vari-angle” suggests. One disadvantage of owning the Nikon D5000 digital camera is that you need to make use of AF-S lenses for the auto-focus function to work at its best since it is not equipped with an AF device.

Nikon 5000 photo quality

QUALITY OF THE PHOTOS

The imaging pipeline of the the D5000 is similar to the D40 (which Nikon stopped making). It

use a 12-bit analogue-to-digital conversion and an EXPEED processor similar to the D300.

What allows is to have great photos are feature like the lateral colour fringe correction.

Added features of the D5000 include soft filter, Perspective Control options in the Retouch section, Colour Outline and a 16:9 and 1:1 trimming options.

SPEED

The shutter block of the D5000 is for 100,000 cycles which you can do continuous shooting but it would be as quick as the higher end models. You’re just learning though so you don’t need a fast camera, you need a great camera that takes great photos, the Nikon D5000 lives up to that.

MOVIE MODE

You can record video with the D5000 but to a limited degree. It uses mono sound and has average video quality. You might also have a hard time focusing while shooting. But you’re buying a DSLR not a camcorder. So the D5000 still does the trick with taking great pictures.

IN A NUTSHELL

If you’re a beginner and want to get to serious hobbyist of photography get the Nikon D5000, it’s the lightest and smallest DSLR but has great technical image quality similar to the D700 under good lighting.

The visual documentation of the daily life of ordinary people is not a fad rather it is a way of life. Just check Flickr and the massive archive of personal photographs taken by novice, enthusiasts, hobbyist and professional photographers alike. Never has the world been more visually amazing and connected as today where an English girl’s stunning countryside photos can be viewed by someone from Cape Town South Africa.

Digital cameras are part of our life the same way that mobile phones and Ipods have become essential gadgets. Choosing a camera is a huge decision as it will be your companion for everyday. The two things to consider in buying the perfect digital camera are quality of the photos and the usability factor. Remember that in photography you really have to invest in the equipment.

If you want to be better in photography here are three of the best high-end digital cameras that covers both quality and usability…

1.Nikon D3

The body of this camera is durable, a little bit heavy but gets amazing result. For MacBook users the Nikon D3 is especially linked. This digital SLR is especially great for who want to be serious about fashion and portraiture photography. The dynamic range is almost film like and the details of the Nikon D3 are impressive. There is an amazing low noise at hugh ISOs so you can use this at night.

2.Olympus EP1

The Olympus Pen is the wave of the future. The Olympus Pen looks like a classic romantic vintage camera with a sleek finish. The quality of the photos are amazing (though of course the Nikon D3 is still better) and it comes in a small body.

3.Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Professional photographers love their Canon and the Mark II tops the list. The Mark II has a full-fram CMOS sensor and has 21 megapixels which is perfect for landscape photography. Filmmakers will also like the Mark II’s HD video mode.

Check more best digital cameras in our list.

Here are the top 5 good buy digital cameras found in the shopping mecca of the internet universe, Amazon.com. We enumerated bargain cameras that made it to the top list and garnered good customer reviews. We did extra research to see how the point and shoot cameras rated for professionals in the digital imaging world.

Take note, the digital cameras listed are not the latest cameras to come out of the market in 2010, but these are the top rated.

Hopefully, in just a quick glance, this digital camera review could give you options as you decide your next bargain and digital camera purchase.

1. Canon PowerShot SX20IS

- The camera has 12.1 mega-pixels and a fantastic 20x wide angle optical zoom. It takes HD videos and uses .mov movie format which is easily unloadable to site like YouTube. The 20x zoom can be used for video taking which is great. The 2.5 LCD screen can be tilted enabling different angle shots. The digital SLR type body looks great while still offering point and shoot control.

Price: US$ 349.95, down from a US$601.03

Good: LCD that can be tilted. Excellent macro focus. Can zoom during movie capture. Uses SD cards.

Bad: Runs with AA batteries. A little slow in CCD sensor. A little bit blurry in low light.

Verdict: Not a standout but good value for money with the 20x megazoom

2. Nikon L20

- The Nikon L20 has 10 mega-pixel and a 3.6 optical zoom. A huge 3.0 LCD screen is convenient for taking pictures although it has no view finder for sunny days.

Price: US$ 89.00 down from release price of US279.95

Good: The price! 3.0 LCD is huge and fairly nice color display. The camera is so easy to use, it’s the kind of camera you give to grandma (if your grandmother was 70 years old and afraid of gadgets). Produce nice quality print.

Bad: Runs with AA batteries. Very slow processor. Basic camera with no fancy features. Slow (oh yeah, we mentioned that. Bulky

Verdict: For US89.00 it’s a reliable camera, basic, no fuss and a good buy. For techies and semi-techies stay away from this one.

3. Sony Cybershot DSC-W290

- The Sony W290 has a 12.1 mega-pixel sensor and an average 5x optical zoom. It takes high definition movie and has Sony stereo which is a nice touch. Sony colors are known to be brilliant. It has a 3.0 LCD and a smile capture feature.

Price: US$ 166.45 down from US$229.99

Good: Cool design, easy interface and practical controls. Has wide-angle and 5x zoom. 3.0 LCD

Bad: Video has no optical zoom. Expensive memory stick, no SD memory option.

Verdict: Excellent beginner’s camera with a nice price to feature ratio.

4. Canon Powershot SD1200

- We love to think Canon is one of the top (if not the top) manufacturers of point-and-shoot cameras. The SD1200 is one of the best out there. The design is terrific, not too slim but sturdy. The finish of the camera looks expensive. It has 10 megapixels, 3x optical zoom and has a 2.5 PureColor LCD screen.

Price: US$ 149.00 down from US$179.00

Good: Classy camera finish and comes in fun colors (pink, orange, blue, gray, green. Fast CCD processor means less lag time when taking photos. Amazing picture quality and colors! Decent low light photos.

Bad: The picture in LCD looks better than when you upload to your computer. Only has 3x optical zoom.

Verdict: Excellent camera for those who want a small camera that does amazing pictures. Fast and worth the US149.00. We guarantee the Canon SD1200 to be excellent.

5. Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3

- The Lumix ZS3 has 12 mega-pixels sensor and 12x optical zoom. Fast sensor and takes quality photos. Offers 720p HD movie with stero mode. Large 3.0 LCD screen.

Price: US$ 239.95 down from US$349.95

Good: Can take 720p movies and uses zoom during movie capture. Zoom and wide angle lens in small body is excellent!

Bad: Few manual control for a US$239 camera

Verdict: Great camera for those who use automatic features. Panasonic creates nice pictures and vibrant color. 12 zoom lens is great for small body.

Check out what the world's first DSLR with movie mode feature has to offer...

The Unraveling

On September 15, 2008 the Nikon D90 replaced the Nikon D80, upping its predecessor with features supreme for its kind. Below, we shall discuss 5 of the features that put it in a class of its own.

And here goes.

Key Feature #1: a 12.3 megapixel CMOS sensor;

CMOS sensors consume less power compared to CCD sensors, so battery life will last longer. A 12.3 megapixel resolution ensures big, quality prints and more room for cropping and editing— perfect for serious amateurs.

Key Feature #2: a 3-inch VGA screen with live view;

A big screen means you can navigate a zoomed image on the screen really fast, so checking photos for sharpness and noise levels will be easier and quicker. The live view will be a big help to shooting and composing.

Key Feature #3: the DSLR movie mode;

There will always be things that are better caught in video, and the D90 recognizes that. Thus the world’s first Digital SLR movie mode feature. There have been complaints about the “rolling shutter” phenomenon that occurs when shifting from horizontal shooting to vertical shooting and vice versa, but for quick videos, this 720p 24fps MPEG video feature is more than enough.

Key Feature #4: Active D-lighting (ADR);

ADR allows you to shoot photos with large dynamic ranges of light— you know, those highly shaded subjects set against a bright background. The D90 is able to pull so much detail that it reaches the point where it’s easier to see them in photos than by the eye.

Key Feature #5: 3D tracking Auto Focus (11 point)

Compared to the previous models’ 3 spots, the D90’s 11-point AF helps get things in focus way quicker. And quicker, in this case, is better.

Other Notes

Other than this, the D90 comes with Face Detection, Image Stabilization, an Anti-Dust Technology, and a Vignetting control in-camera. In continuous shooting, the D90 bursts at 4.5 frames per second.

The white balance is a big improvement, especially on Auto mode. This is helpful if you’re in a hurry and can’t be bothered to fiddle with your camera settings all the time. The short start-up time, viewfinder blackout, and shutter lag is a great plus. And so is the room for extensive in-camera retouching.

The dedicated buttons are extremely helpful. It allows you to change ISO, WB and QUAL settings quickly.

The wide ISO range of 100-6400 will allow for quality low light photos. The D40 at ISO 800 produces lesser noise than the D90 at ISO 3200, but the D90/3200 shots are still pretty usable. The D90’s color fades a little at ISO 1600, drops more at 3200, plunges at 6400. The latter is not advised for use.

All this is found in a camera which appeals to a broad spectrum of audiences— from first-time DSLR shooters to serious amateurs. For others who use their manual camera settings regularly, this is the camera for them. Those who don’t, can benefit from the smart ADR and AWB features.

The downside? Some old Nikon manual-focus lenses from the 1960s cannot be mounted on this camera—but this should hardly affect too many people, right?

The Nikon D90 weighs 25.2 oz. and its best price is 700 GBP.

Nikon has launched yet another Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera that will cater to those who seek high quality and usability: the Nikon d70. A well-designed, complex as still very simple to use, this DSLR was patterned after its predecessor, the Nikon d70s, but with redefined and more elaborate features.

With function being its main selling point, the Nikon d70 is not necessarily an eyesore but its design has a more “professional” feel to it than “cute”. Particularly designed for persons with large hands, this camera is chunky because of the rubberized hand grip that is properly contoured so users can get a tight hold of the camera while shooting. The design was made to make the four fingers of the hand sit on the grip while one clicks on the shutter. The slightly larger size of the camera body also allows over 25 camera functions to have a place in its exterior and in this fashion making it look organized and very efficient to use.

On top of the camera is where a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel is positioned, which displays a total of 22 settings that could prove very handy to the user. Other than that, an additional set of 16 settings can be found in the camera’s viewfinder. All these comprehensive details are especially helpful to those who do not have much experience with DSLRs. This just goes to show that sometimes too much information is never too much. One minor thing that sets it back is the sound that the shutter button makes when released. Since the sound draws unnecessary attention, using the Nikon d70 digital camera for close-up portraiture can be a bit bothersome.

Given that it offers roughly a whole lot that is necessary for photographers and enthusiasts, the Nikon D70 digital camera is considered to be a good investment. DSLR first timers will certainly be keen on the camera’s easy handling and functionality, and of course the high quality images that the Nikon d70 camera produces.
