Canon PowerShot A3100 IS
If you want a ‘not-much-feature-buttons’ camera that takes quality photos and priced at £140.13, then the Canon Powershot A3100 is the digital camera for you.
Canon markets the Powershot A3100 as an easy and fun digital camera. It is part of the Canon A series line, but the A3100 takes the upgrade by using rechargeable batteries instead of the AA-size batteries in the past.
The Canon Powershot A3100 has been stripped off manual controls and optical viewfinders as compared with its 2008 predecessors. So, if you don’t need the manual features or the optical viewfinder (but in our opinion you always need a viewfinder) then you should consider this camera.
The Canon photo quality is still evident in this budget-friendly Canon Powershot camera.
THE SPECS
The Canon Powershot A3100 is a 12.1 megapixel camera with 4x zoom. It has a 2.7 LCD screen that is better than most budget camera. The lens aperture opens f/2.7 – f/8.0, making it a typical lens opening of its class. The lens is not wide-angle. It takes decent picture in low light but don’t count on it so much, ISO goes up to 1600. The A3100 uses a SD and SDHC memory card.
THE BODY
The Canon Powershot A3100 is a chubby camera that can still fit in your pocket or hand bag. The body is made of plastic and is sturdy without being ‘dainty’.
CONTROLS
This badic camera has very friendly controls and the A3100 can be operated by anyone, even you grandmother Abby.
PERFORMANCE
Canon Powershot A3100’s shooting performance is average of it class. The shutter lag in bright lighting conditions is average at 0.5 second; in dim conditions it does well, though, at 0.7 second. Lastly, the continuous shooting speed from the A3100 IS is middle-of-the-road at 0.8 frames per second. These speeds are by no means fast, though, making it best for motionless subjects.
IMAGE QUALITY
If you’re buying this camera, you buy it for the quality in relation to its budget. The Canon Powershot A3100 performs best in daylight rather than in low light. Photos taken at higher ISOs, despite being noisier and softer from noise suppression, are good enough for small prints and Web use.

Good value for the price
I purchased this camera after getting tired of the pictures from my 5 year old digit camera. This camera has image process for good quality pictures. The movie mode records with audo and can zoom in or zoom out. The quality of a SLR at the fraction of the price.
Canon A3100 IS
This is a perfect point to shoot camera for me. It is easy to use and provides good image quality. Plus it is cheapest Canon camera in the market.
Great camera that is easy to use
The camera takes great pictures and easy to use. Pictures are very good and the portability is so nice.
Great camera for everyday
Photo quality is really good. Very easy to use. I would spend the extra $20 and get the 1300. It has a wide angle lens. Not having one on this camera greatly takes away from the range of view. "ok everyone get closer together".
I love this camera!!
It practically takes pictures by itself. Best camera I've ever had.
Best camera we've ever owned!
Love this camera! No more yellow tint in my pictures. Even my kids can take great pictures without a problem with the stabilization features!
Great camera great price
Read the directions, its the best way to get started
AWESOME PICTURES!!! FEELS LIKE YOU ARE THERE!
I UPGRADED FROM A 6 MEGAPIXEL CAMERA TO THIS 12 MEGAPIXEL AND THE PICTURES ARE GORGEOUS! YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE RIGHT THERE WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE PICTURES. CRISP CLEAR PICS, ESECIALLY WHEN OUTDOORS. I LOVE THE KIDS
great camera for still shots BUT..
The camera was easy to use and the picture quality great. BUT, If you wanted to take ANY moving pictures forget it!! The activity was done by the time it would actually take the picture. Missed alot of my child's volleyball shots. I couldn't even get my nephew floating in the lazy river!
Excellent for the amateur photographer
This was a replacement for our six year old Canon Powershot S500 and has proven to be a great choice. It takes quality photos and is user friendly for an amateur like me.
Saved the day!
On the day my son was born, my camera, a Canon G9, broke. Three hours before he was delivered. The all too common Canon lens error. The lens on Canon's spins out from the body. If something happens to the camera and it won't come out or won't close, you might as well toss the camera or pay a ton to get it fixed. However, nothing shoots like a Canon. I have several cameras, SLR's and DSLR's, and I shoot a ton of pics. It's my hobby. I take my G9 wherever I go. (Or at least I did.) I picked this camera up after racing to Best Buy - my child was born and we got horrible shots with a disposable camera. 9 out of 24 were viewable. While my wife was resting and my son was in the nursery, just hours old, I ran from the hospital to the Best Buy on the UWS of Manhattan.
Awesome Camera
Purchased this camera after years of service with several other Canons (also use a Canon Dig SLR). Needed a "pocket" camera for fun, and this fits the need precisely!
Easy to use
Used camera on a trip. Battery life seemed to be suffiecient. Tried to recharge it each evening. Most pictures are excellent. Had to remember to press the button hard enough to get the picture! Easy to download to computer via usb.
Terrific Camera
The camera seemed so small when I got it but it does a great job with pictures, and I'm one of those photography-challenged individuals. I'm impressed with the quality of the picture as well as all the tools that make it easier to appear proficient.
Great camera/price
Fantastic battery life, quality pics. Don't forget memory card separately
Good value
This replaced a Canon PowerShot A40 that was 8 years old. We've used it several times, and the quality is good.
Great camera, great price!
I finally needed to replace my ancient Canon 4 mp point-and-shoot and fell in love with this one. I love that it has a huge screen and will rotate the image on the screen if I rotate the camera. The features are great too, they seem to mimic my fancy Canon Rebel digital XLR's features. (Can you tell I love Canon cameras?) If you want to take a picture of people, choose Portrait. Or if you want to take a picture of a fast moving subject, choose Kids
Canon power shot
I have been shopping around for good affordable cameras these past few months and I got attracted to Samsung camera because of the stylist look . I bought it and tried it for 2 weeks. I was disappointed and dissatisfied with the poor picture quality,it has a grinding noise and among other things. I returned it and replaced it with Nikon Camera The looks and size was very attractive and I tried it for 2 weeks. First problem was when downloading pictures it froze several times, won't erase picture on the memory card. The picture quaility was so orangey and if you fix the color it compromise the natural look. So I went back to best buy and returned it. My last choice was Canon power shot and I was having a second thought because of the old looking style but one of the sales person told me that canon is one of the best for small cameras. I bought it tried it and my goodness so perfect that I don't need to do any adjustment anymore. I should have not waisted my time looking and testing other cameras and could have save myself the trouble if I had pick this camera from the start. It gives you a very natural and exellent picture quality. I tried all the settings different times different location and it went beyond my expectations. I'm lovin it!
Love, love, love my Powershot SD1200
This is the best camera I have ever owned. It takes fantastic pics and the zoom is incredible! I am so pleased and you will be too!
Easy to use. Great looking pictures.
I had a Canon before this camera and loved it. It was lost and I got the A3100 as a Father's Day gift. Still a great camera but now takes even better pictures. Easy point and shoot or you can set all the settings yourself. Light weight and easy to carry.
Best Point and Shoot around
I am a semi professional photographer/videographer and just bought this camera to replace another point and shoot that I had that broke. I use canon's digital SLR professionally and wanted a quality camera I can throw in my pocket for every day use and this camera shoots as well if not better then my SLR. I was very surprised at the quality of shots it takes and it i
Great camera for anyone
I bought this camera as a gift for my mother who isn't very tech savvy, she was able to get it going and working the way she wanted in the first day. I didn't even have to show her a thing, and she couldn't have been happier.
Good, simple to use camera
So far the camera has been great and very easy to use and I would recommend the power shot to anyone hunting for a simple to use camera.
great, very manual camera; easy to use
this camera is extremely easy to use. I have an old 5 mpx canon, the problem i had is the video quality and blurry pictures. Canon A3100 does a great job, focuses fast, easy to switch modes and good quality of video. I didn't need lots of superfeatures because I know I don't use them, for this purpose this camera is perfect. Takes good (not yellowish) pics indoors at the indoors mode. I got one for myself and, after testing it, one for my parents. IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR AN INEXPENSIVE CAMERA WITH NOT TO MANY FEATURES THAT TAKES GOOD PICS, THIS ONE IS FOR YOU.
Simple to use, lots of options, looks amazing!
Seriously, I got this for my girlfriend, and she loved it. She loved it more than she has loved almost anything in a long time. She spent the first two days just figuring out what each little think did, how it did it, how it was, everything. The pictures come out great! I mean, sure, it's not a $4000 camera, but dang are those pictures nice. They came out clear and rich. I am glad I went this route.
Great beginner camera
This camera is self explanatory. The auto program adjusts to the type of shot on its own, which helps alot when taking different types of pictures. the menu boards were easy to understand but took a little time to understand everything and I also like that the lens didn't have to be on to review your pics. The only problem I had was taking a pic while the person was moving, some came out blurry (can't fix everything) Other than that the camera was great and I'd recommend it!
The "must have" pocket camera
Great for an easy to use and carry camera. My regular camera is the Canon 50D, but sometimes is too much to carry. The 3100 is a perfect solution for the "on the go" pocket camera. I initially bought the Nikon version (I can't remember the model number, but it was around $130). I returned the Nikon after one week, and bought the Canon 3100. No comparision....If you are looking a cost effective, easy to use, reliable, quality camera...look no further!!!!!.....Oh yea, and I am picky with my purchases....so you can be assured this will work for you.
Great pictures--so easy to use
This camera is wonderful. It is small and easily portable. My hands tend to shake alot, but the pictures always come out sharp. The auto option is very easy to use. I love that you can turn off the review function so that you can take many pictures in a row fairly quickly--even in auto mode.
Not bad but hard to hold and slow
I got this as a replacement for another Canon point and shoot when the lens stopped working. Initially I was happy with the camera but after using it for a few days, I thought it was too hard to hold (kind of small for my hands.) Also, I think that it writes to the card too slowly. I was shooting in broad daylight and found myself missing shots as the camera wasn't ready. I didn't like the rechargeable battery either as you always have to make sure you have a spare, and be sure the charger is with you! ( I will get used to this eventually when i get a DSLR though...but for now, I'd rather have regular batteries.) The image quality is good, and it is easy to use. I just think that d
Perfect compact camera for us!!!
Ideal even for someone with not the steadiest hands. Takes very clear pictures, even at max zoom. Great point and shoot. Even eliminates the red eyes automatically. What's not to love. Chack out my pics!
hell of a camera, better than my old hp
takes very sharp pictures, the last cannon i owned was a 35mil, was not good quality, it did not focus very good
Not worth the money....
I wish i could say i had good luck with this camera like everyone else did, but unfortunately I didn't. I got this 2 days ago and was looking forward to using it at the aquarium today. All my pictures came out blurry, and half the time the fish swam out of frame by the time the camera actually responded and snapped the picture. The time in between shots was slow and so was playback. I have owned previous cameras before so I DO already know how to operate digital cameras and all the settings. I tried all the different settings featured on the camera but none of them made the pictures any better. Also, the battery didnt even last the whole day.....The only type of pictures this camera is good at are VERY still life and landscape. I took some beautiful pictures of some daisies (picture attatched) However, I plan on returning the camera tomorrow and finding a new one.
CANON IS THE BOMB!
Just purchased this camera today. The price was right and the quality and ease in operating the camera was awesome. So far so good. This camera is the bomb.
One of the best point and shoot camera
This camera is the best out of all the cameras that I have purchased. My favorite feature is the selection of different modes (indoor, potrait, landscape, kids
Great camera, simple to use
This is a great camera. It is very simple to use and it takes great pictures. We previously had an Olympus and also tried Kodak, but this one beats them all.
Great easy digital, ok for canons
This is my 3rd digital camera, and I LOVE the ease of use of the Canon powershots. This one is not as sleek as the earilier Canon powershot model that I had, but it does have higher megapixels and is lighter and small enough to carry everywhere pretty conveniently. I noticed that I was not taking as many pictures of the kids when I was using our Nikon digital---it had a touchscreen, but there was a longer delay in taking the picture and many of the shots came out fuzzy no matter which setting I tried. I'm much happier with the Canons.
Awsome Point and Shoot
I got this for my wife. She is a professional photographer who routinely uses a Canon 50D for her work. This little Canon had simlar controls on the top, which she loved. It also took great pictures in all lighting conditions and the image stabilization works well too! We are very pleased with this camera!
This camera malfunctioned on me twice
A bought this camera just less than two years ago. Within the first six months of owning it, the camera's zoom feature somehow got stuck on zoom. I had to send it to Canon to get fixed. Well, today (less than a year after that) the camera has stopped working altogether. In the last month or so, it seemed to eat through batteries very quickly. When I changed the batteries today after the change battery icon flashed, the camera flat out stopped working; even when plugged into the computer directly which worked just fine moments before. The cable was functioning properly as well as the new batteries. WHEN this camera worked, I was overall satisfied. The features and settings are plentiful and a nice touch. I also liked the large LCD screen. My only complaint is the picture quality. I noticed it to be a little grainy. It's nothing horribly but nevertheless noticeable. I'm now going with Kodak and hope I have better luck.
great camera for cost
I did some research before purchasing this camera. I am very impressed with thequality, ease of use and features. The only negative I would say is the video quality is not the greatest on voom-- but this is not the primary use- so overall I am very pleased. I have kids and the snapshots turn out great!
Great Camera for a beginner
Very good camera for beginners takes a little getting used to with the double press focus technique, screen a little grainy but overall pics great
Excellent for the cost
We use cameras everyday to photo household goods. The detail is just what we are looking for. The size is very convienent as it is very compact. I also like that it uses a rechargable battery. You may want a backup as once it is low you can't just pop batteries in.
So far so good
I've had this camera for almost a month now. I bought it to replace a very expensive Sony digital camera that, after only a year, was already broken and took terrible pictures. So far, I am loving the sturdiness of the camera, I'm not worried that it's too delicate to throw into my purse and carry around everywhere. It has an 'easy' setting that automatically knows what pictures to take. I've left it on that setting for the most part and it's taken great photos. I also used it to take a couple of short videos and they're great quality. I didn't have to fiddle with programming. I just put in the memory card and charged the battery and off I went. So easy. Again, I have only had it for a month so I can't say anything to its longevity but I can say that its already surpassed my Sony camera in terms of quality, better pictures and ease of use. Absolutely definitely worth the price.
Fine overall camera
Had to replace my old digital camera. Very happy with this one. You don't need to go spending a ton of money to get a great quality camera. I've been taking so many photos with this one, and most are keepers. Very happy.
Didn't Live Up to Expectations
I just bought this camera to replace my last one (Canon also), which I had for a couple years then lost. I was expecting it to be the same quality but after I received it the first thing I noticed was that it wasn't nearly as durable as my last. My last one had a metal body, this one is plastic. I'm rough on cameras as is, I carry them in my purse everywhere. After that I decided that I would just have to be more careful but after charging the battery and going through the menu, I realized that it doesn't have half the features that my last one did. I guess I was expecting a higher qualit
Great Camera for an Amateur
Good camera for a point and shoot photographer. Not too many features but a good value.
Excellent entry level camera
Pros - Excellent battery life as compared to the 2 AA battery models. Good quality pictures Cons - A bit small in the hand, thus slightly awkward to push shutter button.
Great camera for infrequent user
My husband hunts and likes to capture the memories, but he leaves his camera in the truck so I didn't want anything too high maintenance. This camera kind of surprised me with the quality of the pictures, and yet ease of use. Great buy for teens and non-tech savvy adults!
Love this camera
Takes great pictures.. I love anything Canon. Ive had several canon cameras and this one takes the cake...
Color not so nice...
This camera was 100% what I was looking for, except the quality of the color just wasn't there. The colors were very washed out looking. I changed the settings, changed the color to "vibrant" but the contrast just wasn't there. I wanted a camera that wasn't too expensive, easy to use, and have good picture quality. This camera was all those things, except the picture quality. If it is important to you to have crisp colorful pictures, this camera is not for you. I ended up buying the Canon SX 130 IS - which is phenominal. It was about $100 more, but so worth the picture quality.
Easy to use. Good pictures
Bought for non-technical spouse who is reluctant to try anything complicated. Found the camera easy to set up and use in easy and auto mode which is probably going to be used 99% of time. Picture quality for 5x7 is great, blow-ups to 8x10 are very very slightly grainy but acceptable. If my spouse would use some of the alternate settings, the 8x10 quality would be better. The instructions are very clear and concise. A better index would be an improvement. Overall for a non-technical person, this is a very good camera and it replaced an older Canon 110 that after 10+ years lost it brains.
it works great
It works great, no problem easy to use, no hassle buying this camera. Sales associate was very helpful picking the camera.
sharp pics
im on a budget and im not tech savvy which is why i bought this camera. now i am a frequent returner of products, but let me tell you..i do not regret this for one instant. i loooove this camera! when you first turn it on the screen looks fuzzy so i began to get worried, but once you hit click, boy is that picture clear. i'm happy :)
Grainy Photos
I am SO disappointed in this camera. The indoor photos are lousy - grainy, poor color. Have to Photoshop almost every photo to get the color where it should be. Every indoor photo is grainy. I'm getting rid of this camera - looking for something that will give me higher quality photos.
Its perfect Digital camera for this Price!
I really enjoyed using this little camera, it gives beautifull and clear picture, its very simple anyone can use it, has powerful flash,I did use it at the night and still getting beautifull pictures ... I will recommend it to anyone for travels or personal use.
great for a point and shoot
I wanted a compact lightweight easy to use point and shoot camera for when I didn't want to tote around the Canon SLR. Couldn't beat the price online and I opted for in store pick up instead of delivery. Pick up was a breeze. I was in and out of the store in less then 10 minutes. The camera is easy to use. Great indoor/outdoor shots especially in low lighting. Pictures look great when loaded up on the computer. I am very happy with my purchase
Good entry-level camera
After using an Olympus camera, I've had trouble using the menus. But I would assume the more I use it, the better I'll get. Takes very good pictures.
Grat camera for family use.
I love the features in this camera. It is easy to use too.
It's great compact and compact enough for me.
I have big hands and a year or so ago I wouldn't have considered something this small. Easy to use, features are easy to find, pix are excellent.
great camera
just what i was looking for. does everything i wanted
For a point and shoot... it's as good as I've had.
Nothing fancy. Nothing great about it. Nothing wrong with it either. Works exactly like I thought it would. It's a really good everyday kind of point and shoot.
good camera
I bought this camera for my teenage daughter as a Christmas gift. She has gone "nuts" taking pictures since she received it. She hasn't complained about any features.
The Bee's Knee's
Great Camera for the price, Takes Beautiful pictures if you dont move to much..Has a anti movment thang of a magiggy. But to much movment will give blurred pic.. The more i use it, the more i love it..For clear pic's all i can say is practice practice holding still pressing the shutter button, Battery charge last a long long time. Couple of hundred pic's inbetween charges, Beautiful scenery shots. I use it everyday.. Sun Sets, Beaches, Family and Friends and dont forget the Pets..For the everyday photo nut like me this camera is "The Bee's Knee's"
Good
Camara is slow when you take a picture, but it's light, it works good and it's simple to operate.
love it!
Bought this because it was on sale and am very pleased! Great value and great camera. Takes great pics and is easy to use. Easy to upload into the computer too.
Great camera and easy to use
I like the picture quality and it is easy to use. It is small and easy to carry.
Great camera for parties and nights out.
So I got this camera as a gift for my birthday when I said I really don't need one. I already had a camera and never used it because i couldn't fit it in a small purse, or my boyfriends pockets. It was just too big and clunky. A month later my friends birthday came up and she wanted to go out clubbing. We used this Canon A3100is camera to take pictures. Some how I had a full battery after taking like 100 pics over a period of 4 hours. This was at night with a group of 6 people outside and with bright neon lights behind us and they still looked amazing, a little dark, but no weird streaks on anyone's face. When we were inside the clubs i had great shots of my friends dancing while looking at the camera. Crisp pictures of them in motion yet frozen. The best pictures were of course when we were inside a well lit restaurant. When we stopped to ask a few bouncers to take the pictures for us, they never had a problem figuring it out. On top of everything I hadn't even looked at the manual so it was on auto the entire time. Still came out amazing. Loved that it automatically looked for faces. I plan on using this camera a lot more. Its light weight, fits in a TINY clutch/purse. It does take 3 seconds to take a picture with adjusting to the night and finding faces. But its always worth the wait. And you can always make it so that you have continuous shots so it doesn't take any time. Or you can make it so that it doesn't review the pictures after each shot. I like the charger too. Stays in the wall and you just put the battery in it for a couple of hours and its fully charged. Hope that helps.
A nice, convenient every day camera
I bought this for my 8 year old who is always begging to use mine. He has had no difficulty figuring out how it works. He was even able to figure out how to upload pictures to the PC with minimal help from me. It isn't a high end camera and does need optimal conditions to get the best results. That said, more than 90% of the pictures come out fine. (clear focus, great color) For the price, it would be silly to complain about anything it doesn
Ok camera for price
This camera came at a good price, but there are things about it that are disappointing enough that I wish I would have spent a little extra to get a camera of better quality. The time after taking a picture before you can snap another shot is long, usually about 5 seconds. Which makes it hard to get good pictures at an event, such as a wedding. By the time i am ready to take a 2nd shot the bride is already down the isle! Also, the camera becomes blurry and unfocused, even on the auto setting when I am getting ready to take a picture.
Good resolution, great travel photo camera.
I bought this camera for my son to take with on overseas trips. It is a good travel size, excellent resolution, easy to use, and reasonably priced.
Camera doesn't use menues, it uses a simple dial
Camera is so simple to use. It doesn't use menues, it uses a simple dial to change picture settings. Settings can be changed in an instant without cumbersome menues and submenues on the screen.
Very happy with this camera.
This is our third Canon and we couldn't be happier with the price, quality of the pictures and how easy it is to use.
It's ok
I have had 3 other cannon cameras and loved them. I think they had the best picture quality. This one lacked picture quality big time. I have 4 kids and I mostly use my camera to take pictures of them. Kids can be hard to get good pictures of since they don't like to sit still for long. I've never had a problem getting good pics of them while they were moving. This camera is not good for that. I have changed settings and used different modes, but it doesn't get better. I am so unpleased with the picture quality I am thinking of returning it.
Easy to use with the auto focus and flash.
Picture clarity is so much better than my old Sony Cybershot (that cost so much more than the Cannon Powershot.
Good camera, but no card included
I bought this camera for my granddaughter who liked to use mine (the previous model) We were all disappointed when she got it for Christmas and was not able to take any pictures. I never bought a camera that did not include a card to allow taking pictures immediately.
pretty good quality
This was a replacement for my last dig camera and so far I am highly impressed haven't printed any up yet but it downloads easily and am able to put my pix on fb easily . Battery is rechargable and lasts a long time which was my selling point for me.Last camera only took AA and were always having to change and of course right when I really needed it.
Great camera for the price
This is a great little camera. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a small camera to carry with them all the time. I have two small children and there are always picture moments to capture. It's great for carrying in my purse, diaper bag, or pocket. It takes great pictures and it's fairly easy to use.
awesome value for the money
buuut, it makes me want a more expensive camera. Like an SLR. I had the elf prior and this one seems to do just as good at figuring out light on its own and as long as you aren't moving too much the black and white pics come out amazing. It lasted a 10 day ski trip out on the Mts with me and took some sick shots. highly recommend it if this is the range you are looking for.
90 yr Old Dad Loves It
This was a gift for my Dad, who at 90 finally decided he wanted a digital to replace his old reliable film camera. I selected it because I have an earlier version myself and love it. He opened it early by mistake, went out the same day for a memory card, and has been bragging about it ever
Good for the price
Bought this camera because it was on sale and was in need of a new one, it was bulkier than I had anticipated but the images were good and for the price I got it for I couldn't complain. However, it didn't have some of the newer features I was hoping for so after keeping it for a month or so I upgraded and gave this one to my mom and she loves it!
I am still learning how to use the camera.
A few of my photos have been blurred, but that's my fault, and not the camera's. The ease of use is much better than others I have used, but it does take studying the directions. In other words, I was told it was a "point and shoot" camera, but it is more involved than that.
Remarkable value and ease of use.
We have had several Canon cameras over the years and have never been disappointed. The controls and menus of this model are simple and intuitive, and the quality of the photos is consistently very good. The camera has a somewhat bulkier shape than some smaller cameras, but this is a plus in terms of steadiness and general fit in adult hands. This camera is a remarkable value for such a quality product, and is ideal for everyday photography.
Great camera for very reasonable price
This camera has many great features for it's small size. I have had the PowerShot S3 for several years and it was time to purchase a pocket camera. The image quality is amazing with very precise detail. The battery life is also very good.
Good for a first time camera buyer.
Overall the picture detail and qaulity is ok , however when coming to video shooting it is worse than my phone ( Samsung Galaxy S ) . The camera is great for first time buyers and has alot of cool features.
Good camera, battery runs out too quickly.
For my business use, I take a large number of pictures of projects at one time. This camera has a small battery and does not hold a charge for nearly as long as others I have had in the past. And I have three older Canon cameras and they all have a different battery and a different charger. This is not a very green company or they would build interchangeable batteries for all products of the same size.
Great little camera!
A great first time camera. I bought it for my fiance for Christmas, her first digital camera. She just turns it on and points and shoots. Took some great shots while in the Great Smoky Mts after Christmas. East to use and lots of advanced features as well.
Superb Picture Quality!
After trying countless compact digital cameras and reading many reviews, I opted on buying this camera. At the beginning, I was going to buy a DSLR camera due to disappointing image quality on most compact digital cameras today but this Canon A1300IS has really been great. I took some pictures last week on my niece's sweet 16
very good camera for the average user.
The features on the camera are easy to use. Easy to turn on and off. Small and lightweight to fit into a purse.
Can't go wrong with a Canon.
Camera is very easy to use. Picture quality is excellent. I found this at Bestbuy online; however, when I went to purchase it at the store, the price was more expensive. They matched the online price at the store . . got the camera for about $100.
Worth the price
This camera is a good size, takes nice pictures, and is easy to use. Overall I would say it is a good deal.
Great camera
I am new to using digital camera's. This one was so easy to use that I had no problems. Plus the pics came out very clear. When you press the button to take a picture it seems to be a little slow. Also you take out the battery and charge it. Kind of weird (they do enclose a charger).
Great value for the price.
So far I have been very pleased with this camera. I got it for my daughter for her birthday and she is thrilled with it.
Easy and Great Pics
I love this camera. It is a big bang for the buck. Indoor pics are very good. I also love the video feature on this camera.
great camera, bad store
The camera itself is excellent. Canon is the only camera I buy/use. This one was my daughters first. She loves it. My experience with Best Buy was BAD.
Just simply not impressed
I want to turn my camera on and use it - not have to read a manual to figure out why my pictures aren't the way I want them or why there is such a delay between pressing the shutter release and the flash so the baby's smile is gone an have these puzzled look instead of her first smiles. For the price, get a Kodak - they are much simpler to use and the M550 adjusts automatically to YOUR environment - the flash is quick - everything you want to capture on the Kodak will be just right. I owned one before and should never have considered anything else but went on the recommendation of a friend. Never again - stick with what you trust - what works. I returned it this and got another Kodak - the only reason I needed a new camera was because I dropped mine.
replacement for older Powershot
The camera has all the old features of a Powershot .Somewhat hard to access them with the dial, but still takes great pictures. Was not happy with the rechargeable battery, but it seems to hold a good charge. For the price I got an excellent camera.
good
i like Cannon products, good price for what you get, rechargable
Easy to use, good value
I bought this camera as a Christmas gift for my mom who is, shall I say not so good with the small electronics (I still have to help her with her cell phone occasionally). The manual is easy to read and understand for both me and her. Even before reading the manual, it seemed pretty easy to use. The only downside I have found is that the memory card goes in the same compartment as the battery, so you can't have the camera on while swapping cards, but it's a pretty easy thing to overcome. Overall, my mom and I are very satisfied with this camera!
Average camera
Our little one broke our Kodak so we went and tried something new that had good reviews. There are no real benefits to this camera and with little ones we like to take lots of quick pictures. This camera takes a long time to take shots. We have already missed lots of cute kid pictures because of the delay. There is nothing wrong and the pictures are good quality... it is just slower than our past 3 cameras of about the same price range.
Excellent Point and Shoot for the price!
I am have yet to venture to DSLRs, so by no means am I a professional. This is replacing my normal camera which was a Kodak C160 which proved to be a grand waste of money which replaced a C300 which is why I stuck with Kodak, they used to make decent quality point and shoots at a modest price, and I loved the C300 back in the day. This is my first Canon, and it was a huge step worth taking. I chose this over a Fujifilm JV100, just by preference and feeling more secure with jumping from a Kodak to a Canon. The picture quality is fantastic. Be sure to hold the camera steady to enjoy the best of the image stabilization and get the clearest picture. The camera has an icon that will flash if it thinks you should put it on a tripod because the conditions may leave that specific picture blurry and another indictor if the picture WILL be blurry because it cannot focus. Auto mode will often be your quick choice I would presume, and this camera you can press your luck because AUTO is smart for the average user, being it can even detect when Macro mode is needed! What's good? -Good for the price, good build quality as a whole, feels solid, and no fingerprint magnet-type surfaces where you hold the camera like my previous Kodak. -Fairly constant picture quality, but if light is too low, it will suffer, but it's no big deal and it certainly handles slightly lower light situations with ease where many other cameras in it's price range fall short. -Pretty good battery life, I recommend if you stick with this camera you pick up a spare battery, always do so when the battery is proprietary (i.e. a battery p
I'm happy with this purchase.
Good purchase. It is a fine camera. I would recommend this camera for any non-advanced user.
Great camera, great value!
I purchased this camera from BestBuy.com. It arrived quickly with no problems. The camera is great! Really good picture quality, features and easy to use. It is great quality, small, light, and compact. I have had more expensive cameras and see no reason why now unless you want an SLR. I am very pleased with this camera!
Truly a great camera for a beginner.
This camera is easy to use
Excellent for the Price
Great camera and adjust to light far better then both our sony and fuji film cameras.
Nice camera for kid
My daughter likes this camera a lot. Easy to carry, easy to use. Not for professionals, but so what?
Camera for my daughter
very disappointed, bought the camera on her birthday 12/6/93, she has not been able to view the pics on the screen yet. she has to insert the memory card into someone elses camera to view them
Great Camera, great pictures, easy to use.
I feel I got a great deal on this camera. The pictures are of great quality and the camera itself is really easy to use.
Great Camera
Great camera for the price. I recommend it for those looking for a good compact camera that has a great price.
Great for my mom
My mom needed a new camera, so my sister put me in charge of finding her a good one. My friend with camera expertise told me to look at the canons. My mom loves the camera. Extremely easy to use, especially since she is not computer savy. We are very happy with this purchase.
good camera
I am very happy with this camera! I am definately not a photographer but the camera has worked well for taking pictures of my children. It actually takes the picture pretty quickly - sometimes if feels like it takes a while to save the picture though. This is my first experience with this kind of battery (I have always used the rechargeable AA batteries before) and I love how long it lasts! I am very happy with my purchase. I haven't tried out too many of the extra features but I love the auto focus. As I said I am not a skilled photographer so I like the "help."
Great upgrade from Cannon Power Shot A570 is
I bought this camera for my wife at Christmas to replace the Power Shot ans she loves it. She has been taking pictures weekly and updating her on line album to share with friends. Great camera for a great price.
great camera
I have a canon SLR but some times I don't wanna carry this big camera and every thing that i had to carry with it. So staying with canon i wanted to find a nice little camera that i could carry like in my pocket. My wife has a nice little nikon 12.0 meg point
good overall camera
I bought this camera for my son as a Christmas gift. It is super easy to use and takes great pictures. Thinking of buying one for myself.
Not bad for someone who doesn't take many picutres
I haven't had a lot of time to get to know this camera but basic picture taking is simple.
Great camera for the price.
This camera is very easy to use. It makes both beautiful still and video pictures. Battery life is outstanding. I've made several video pictures and stills and I still haven't charged my battery. I love not having to constantly purchase fresh batteries. I would recommend this camera to anyone that's in the market for a good camera at a great value. I love Cannon!
my camera
I really do love it, and for the price that i got it was really a great deal and product.
Great camera for ease of use.
Amazing. I used to own a camcorder. This camera works just as well as the camcorder or better. Great camera as well.
Do not like it!! Poor picture quality and battery
I do not like this camera at all. I think it has very poor picture quality. The color is not even close to real. The battery does not last at all. Bad purchase.
Great Camera!!
Their is nothing wrong with this camera, it does exactly what it says! great picture and quality especially for the price, and reputation:)
Practical camera
Glad I bought this camera, just a bit too compact to handle
very average
This camera is nothing if not average. You won't go terribly wrong if you purchase this camera, but don't expect anything fabulous either. Pretty good picture quality for a point and shoot. User controls, other than portrait, landscape, close-up are difficult to discern. Considering the price, I'd stick with a less expensive option. What are you going to do with 12 megapixals with a point and shoot, make bill boards? Go for less money and less megapixals and the only thing you will notice will be the extra change in your pocket.
Very nice camera
This is a very nice camera. It takes great pictures, it's chock full of features, perfect size, great battery life, easy to use, great price . . . overall great value !
Waste of Money
This camera was larger and fatter than any of the other compact digital cameras. I have used camera for about 6 weeks (after Christmas) and the Auto mode stinks. Taken photos outside in snow, rain, inside, etc. but pictures are all the same. Drab and too light or dark. Wanted easy camera to use and am now stuck with a piece of junk. Would NOT recommend
Good camera for the price
I like this camera very much; the picture quality is great in most cases. However, when trying to take a picture with the zoom, the picture is not that great. It is usually too dark. Maybe that is my fault, but I did read the book and tried to follow the directions. I love the wide screen.
great camera for use on web
overall great beginners camera - very easy to use right out of the box
Great camera for everyday's use
Great camera Easy to use, download, compact.Takes good videos
ELF a bit better, but price rocks!
The elf series fits the hand better and has a couple upgrades but for the diff in price this camera works well.
I wish I could return this camera!
I am shocked to see all of the positive reviews on this camera. I think it is the worst! My 5 year old Sony Cyber Shot takes better pics but the sensor is dirty so I figured I would buy a new camera. The price on this camera is good, but I think you get what you pay for. First, the processing time is very slow so it is very difficult to take continuous shots. Next, I consider myself a pretty steady hand and it's almost impossible to get a clear shot with this camera. If you're trying to take a picture of something moving (like a child), forget it! Considering this camera has image stabilization you would think this wouldn't be a problem, but it is. Third, the images on the display screen are not as crisp as it should be so it makes it hard to tell if you actually got a good shot or not. Last, every photo I have taken seems to be overexposed or too bright. I have tried every setting in various situations and nothing has helped to improve the image quality. I wish I would have used this camera more when I first bought it so I would have had time to return it. Now, a few months later, I am stuck with this medicore camera.
Excellent point
Very solid point
