There are a lot of Canon point and shoot cameras released this year. One of them is the Canon PowerShot ELPH 500HS. Similar to the latest Canon digicams, the ELPH 500HS has adapted the new HS system from Canon.
The Canon PowerShot ELPH 500HS has 12.2 megapixel imaging sensor and it has adapted a DIGIC 4 imaging sensor that can capture images even with low light conditions, you do not have to use the built-in flash. The camera also adapts a smart shooting Auto mode. Other features of the Canon PowerShot ELPH 500HS include a 3.2 inch touchscreen LCD, 1080p HD video recording and a 4.4x optical zoom lens.
The price tag for this Canon point and shoot camera is US $299.99 or £186.00 which is an amazing price.
BUILT AND HANDLING
The ELPH 500 is a great Canon point and shoot camera that you can carry anywhere. It will fit in any purse of small bag easily as it would fit your pocket. It is not the slimmest point and shoot camera out there but it is small enough to fit anywhere.
The colors available for the ELPH 500 are silver, brown and pink – not really stylish colors. The finish of the Canon point and shoot camera is similar to the metal finish of the cameras under Canon’s belt.
EASE OF USE
The Canon PowerShot ELPH 500HS is extremely hassle free to use. All you have to do is switch it to automatic shooting mode and you just use the camera. The only thing that may confuse the technically-challenged users is that the functions are all found in the LCD screen so you have to dabble the touch function to adjust your settings. Users must be ready to play with the LCD control before really getting the hand of things. The upside of having a touchscreen LCD is that you have a sleek camera with no buttons at the back.
IMAGE QUALITY
The overall image that the Canon PowerShot ELPH 500HS produces is amazing for a point and shoot camera. The EPLP 500HS consistently bring great exposure, sharpness and vividness to the images. This is especially true in good lighting, especially in outdoor shoots.
Indoors there can be noise in the images but it is well contained. ISO setting from 100 to 1600 are great and you can print average 5×6 photos in these settings and it will come out looking great. Canon delivers great low-light performance spurred by the new HS system.
Portrait images are also great with smooth skin tones. A little redness in the eyes are seen. The camera’s auto focus on face does great as well.
VIDEO CAPABILITY
Canon designed the ELPH 500HS in such a way that you only need one touch to turn the video recording on, no matter what camera mode you are currently on. This means you do not get to miss candid videos.
