Canon 60D

Canon UK revealed that the Canon 60D will have a £1,099.99, body only, and will be available on October 2010.

Canon cameras UK pegged the 60D as the camera for photography hobbyists who use the 550D as both cameras share the same sensor.

The Canon 60D is a 18 megapixel camera and stand between the 550D and 7D class. While the 60D shares the sensor of the Canon 550 D, the 60D shares Canon 7D’s low pass filter.

Canon cameras UK tags the 60D as a great upgrade which includes a Full HD movie recording (1920×1080 pixels) via 3inch swivel LCD screen carrying a resolution of 1,040,000 dots.

The key difference between the 60D and the 550D are raw image processing, built-in flash and pre-set pictures. The 60D has more features over the 550D with regards to these specifications.

The 60D will also be out in various kits, ranging from an 18-55mm lens outfit costing £1,199.99, up to a 17-85mm kit, costing £1,499.99.

Great camera to take on a trip

5 stars

I bought this camera at the beginning of a road trip to the south. Best Buy clerk in Tampa advised me to take this one. As I had a Rebel in the past, I decided to give it a credit. I was then amazed at the quality of the pics and at how easy it is to manage it. Thanks Best Buy and Canon

So far, so good...

5 stars

Was debating between the T2i and the 60D. Wanted only one lens with decent zoom, so instead of buying the less expensive T2i body and the 18-135 zoom for $1,300 I stepped up and get the 60D with lens for the same price. Great camera so far. Need to take a class or two to deepen my knowledge of the camera but it's taken great pictures so far. Looking forward to learning more and creating more.

Good buy for price

I got the 60d instead of the 7d because of the price and I am happy. Very good camera!

I love this camera

5 stars

It took me months to decide between this model or the 7D and I chose the 60D. And I love it. The pictures come out great. It's a solid camera. I had to drive three hours away to get this camera because it was sold out online. In the end, it was worth it.

If you like bells and whistles!

4 stars

I'm not a pro.. but I'm not a doorknob either.. so, if you're considering this model, here's what i think you ought to know: 1. The Rebel 2ti has all the same specs as this guy (for a lot less money by the way) 2. The major difference/upgrade with the 60D is the SWIVEL SCREEN... 3. The 7D has basically the same specs as well (same sensor for example), but has 2 chips instead of one, and a fancier auto-focus system (19 point vs 9 point.. or something like that) Bottom-line.. if you MUST HAVE the swivel screen, then the 60D is for you... (the 60D is the star of the pack when it comes to bells and whistles for video, including in-camera volume adjustment) if you are a value driven kind of person, then stick with the 2ti.. and if you want to stay in the same ballpark as the 60d price range, but want the best you can get, then choose the 7D, but keep in mind it does not have the swivel screen, although it boasts a higher quality chasis (magnesium this and that blah blah blah, but i must say the 60d still has a nice solid feel to it (trust me) much more so than the 2ti) hope this helps... happy hunting!

Excellent DSLR

5 stars

After having a Canon Rebel XTi this camera the Canon 60D is an excellent camera if you want more options with your photography. The camera housing has been made with a sturdy material .No more accidental changing the mode dial as you have to depress the center button to rotate to select your preference. The LCD monitor can now be flipped out or rotated back into place to protect whilst in use. The LCD panel display is easy to read. Everything on this camera is easy to locate whilst shooting . The displays are clear and bright. . The instructions for this camera are clear and concise and even makes working with RAW format understandable. No more CF pins to bend as the 60D uses SD cards. I am really enjoying learning this camera and so far it has only left me with good things to say about it

Takes great picture.

Takes great picture. If you don't need the the articulated screen and faster shutter speed, save some money and get the T2i Picture and video quality is exactly the same as this model.

Canon 60D - My dream camera!

5 stars

I've been shooting photos, both as an amateur and semi-pro, for almost three decades now. I've been blessed to shoot with Pentax, Nikon and Canon. All three have their advantages and disadvantages. For the last three years, I have used a Canon 350D. It's a good camera, but I've been "dreaming" of something more towards the pro end of the spectrum. When the Canon 60D commercial came on TV, I looked at my wife and said, "That's my next camera." Little did I know that a few months later, I would be standing in Best Buy on a Monday night, holding one in my hands and telling the sales associate to grab one from the cage, "I'm taking this home." It's been a few weeks now, and I've already shot several hundreds photos with my 60D. It is AWESOME! Not since the film days of shooting with my Canon A-1 have I had a camera in hand that felt so much like a pro camera with pro features. Did I mention it's awesome?!? The photo quality is excellent -- which I knew from the multiple reviews I read online before buying the camera. Live View works well, but there is a slight lag from Live View to shutter actuation. I have not run into a situation where that is a problem, but I can see it becoming slightly annoying in certain circumstances. Being able to turn the LCD any angle or direction is making for some interesting vantage points for photos, too. COOL! Lastly, I see a lot of electronics reviews stating that battery life sucks on this and that. Well, the Canon 60D does NOT fall into that category. The manual says you can shoot 1000-1200 non-flash photos on one charge. I shot almost 800, about 150 using flash, on one charge... also using Live View on at least 50 of those shots. That is AWESOME! If you like the way a Canon feels in your hands, and/or their features... the Canon 60D is a GREAT upgrade to the 50D; better than the T2i and the Nikon D7000.

Best Camera on the market under $1500

5 stars

This is a huge upgrade from the T2i. It's like all the good features of the G11 and the T2i Combined in this great camera. Still retains auto modes but gives more control over focus points and is much faster. Recommend the Sandisk 8gb extreme III and the 18-200mm lens upgrade and you'll blow away any other camera in it's price range. It's really top of the line for an amateur like me who wants great shots of the family. They also have lots of good in camera editing if your comparing to the Nikon series. The Hd video is auto and customizable. Really a real winner all around.

Why Choose the 60D vs. T2i?

5 stars

The three dSLRs in the Canon consumer line-up (60D, 7D, T2i) all share a number of specifications and features, similar exposure metering system, as well as an image sensor that is very similar, and all with 18 megapixels. Due to this, the image quality and ISO performance of these three cameras will be nearly identical, and all are capable of taking high quality images. So why choose the 60D over the T2i? -Exterior buttons and controls - greater ease and control of changing camera settings as you work vs. the T2i. 60D includes controls like the rear dial and top LCD panel. -Menus and custom functions - greater control over customizing how the camera functions vs. the T2i. -Auto focus systems - greater sensitivity (cross-type) in all of the 9 focus points vs. the T2i. -Size and weight - the 60D is slightly larger and heaver than the T2i. It is a very nice size, weight, feel, and design that should be comfortable for most users. -Additional processing features, such as the creative filters and internal file processing capabilities of the 60D. -Faster frame rate - the 60D can shoot 5.3 frames per second vs. 3fps of the T2i. -Construction - stronger aluminum and polycarbonate construction and some weatherproofing of the body of the 60D. -Articulating rear LCD screen - the 60D is the only current Canon dSLR with this handy feature. -Wireless flash feature of the 60D allows you to trigger multiple off camera flashes at different output levels. -Battery - the 60D has a larger batter vs. the T2i, thus allowing longer periods of shooting before having to recharge. -Full HD Video - the 60D, 7D and T2i all have this capability. -A note to Strobists: The 60D does not have a PC sync flash socket to plug in PC sync cords. -Ease of operation - while beginners may find all the buttons, controls, and menus of any dSLR difficult and confusing at first, the 60D's controls and menus are all quite intelligently designed and straightforward for the advanced user. If you'd like to get up and running with the 60D quickly and competently, be sure to check out an eBook called Real World 60D on the "Picturing Change" Wordpress blog. It describes how to set up all the Menu settings and Custom Function settings with the exception of the movie menus, plus explains how, when, and why to use the settings, controls, and features of the 60D in everyday still photography use, including Av and Tv. Plus information on exposure, composition, using depth of field, and basic video settings. It will help you learn to use your 60D to its full potential. The 60D is an excellent camera for those wanting to upgrade from the Rebel line, or for the first-time dSLR buyer who is knowledgeable of camera controls or eager to learn. Its size, durability, and features will suit those who wish to use it for both general use and for travel, and its image quality and performance is exceptional for a camera at this price. Ratings explanations: Value: The quality of the sensor, construction, and performance for this price is great. Picture Quality: This can be verified on actual test sites like dxomark. Ease of use: While beginners may find all the buttons, controls, and menus difficult and confusing at first, they are all quite intelligently designed and straightforward for the advanced user. I still prefer the old thumb joystick over this new multi-controller. Features: It has all the features and customizations an advanced user needs, except those who wish for AF microadjustment. The articulating screen is icing on the cake.

Good camera, but to close to the T2i

2 stars

Let me start by saying I'm not a professional, but I have owned the T2i, the 50d and now the 60d. I've also rented and tested the 7d and 5d. Over the years I've read several books and got some tutoring from a professional photographer and I feel I know DSLR's pretty well. I have many amazing pictures with all the above cameras. Here is my opinion after owning the 60d. 1. The picture quality of the 50d, 60d and t2i and 7d are identical. I can't find a difference. I did see a considerable difference when I used the 5d though. 2. The video quality of all the cameras seemed pretty equal. 3. I used heavy lenses on all the cameras. No difference in strength. They're all great. I do like the lightweight of the t2i for backpacking though. 4.The 60d has an okay frame rate. Faster than the 5d and t2i. It's faster frame rate is minor and at my sons soccer games, the t2i caught just a many "great" shots. Now when I used the 7d, it did give me quite a few more shots to choose from. I have to admit, for action 7d is more than a step above. 5. Yes the autofocus does have cross type on the 60d but I've never had focusing issues from the t2i, 60d or 7d or 5d. I also never noticed a difference from old 50d vs the t2i. In fact, I didn't even notice a difference between the 7d and the t2i. Maybe in low light the 7d's 19 point is better, but like I said before, I've never had any focusing issues with the 9 point center cross only system on the t2i. Just my opinion, it's all hype. 6.Battery, the t2i's battery lasted me for many hundreds of pics and videos on my last vacation of 3 days. If I was to take to many more, I probably would of needed another battery with any camera. 7. I like the simple buttons on the t2i. I don't understand why people like the controls of the more expensive cameras. After you get used to the t2i, its the fastest....at least for me. 8. Last: Price - The t2i is a bit less than 2/3's the cost of the 60d. Why spend more unless you do lots of action (7d) or want ultra high quality (5d). In closing, for me it's all about value. The 60d is in a bad position. The expensive middle area. Missing many great features of it's big brothers, the 5d and 7d, and no real "MAJOR" improvement from the t2i. The t2i is more than worth it's price. Probably the best ever value for it's price tag. The 7d is great but a little pricey. It is great for action though. After either owning or testing all the above cameras, my next purchase will be the 5d. Now that camera's full frame sensor is really an improvement. Much sharper and vivid detail. I've learned that first hand. By the way I returned the 60d to save for the 5d.

Great camera... for what it is...

5 stars

I'm a photographer by trade... this camera was purchased for my "family" use... I have been looking for a smaller bodied, lighter solution to using my work gear around the house. This camera offers a great deal of what my other gear has with a few new extras that have already come in handy. The swivel screen is great for taking timer family photos, the size and weight are great as well. I've seen some complaints Canon didn't stick with the metal body for this model... I wouldn't have bought the camera if they had... there's a lot to be said about a lighter, easier to hold, carry and use often camera body when you're trying to have a camera that's just sitting around waiting for that "family" moment! So far, LOVE the camera! Love what it offers compared to my work gear. The Kit 18-135 lens is also a nice addition... no, it's not "great glass" but it's a great addition to the weight/easy to use combo.

Excellent Camera. Features and Cost

5 stars

I always appreciated Canon Cameras, I have others, but this is my first DLSR. It is outstanding. The quality of the pictures, the speed, and the build quality. I am still experimenting with it and it is very easy to use, specially if you are a Canon user. for videos you definetly need a class 6+ SDHC card, or it will not work. the swivel LCD is something really great, my other camera is the PS 5IS, and the swivel LCD is handy when you need to bring the camera above the crowd to take that special photo. One think worth mentioning is the outstanting buying experience at the Dearborn Best Buy, in Michigan. The sales person really help me out and showed me all the details of the camera, and even helped with a case to store it.. I am very happy.

Noise on video mode.

2 stars

Disappointed. If you bought this 60D together with the 18-135mm kit lense, check your video mode and make sure you like it. Rotate the dial to video and hold your lense close to your ear, you will hear some kind of static noise coming out from the lense. Just on video mode only. The noise is being recored into the video and you will hear it while playing the video on your LCD TV. At first I thought I just got a bad unit so I returned the first unit and exchange for the second one, however, i still got the same type of noise on the second one. So, the conclusion is, Canon has a bad design, not bad units!! I actually bought both 60D and the Nikon D7000. The D7000 is just so pretty in every aspects. The feeling, the features, the sound, the quality, etc. It really makes the 60D looks ugly. Besides of the noise from the video mode from the 60D, everything else are just noisy. The lense is noisy and even the shutter sound like you accidentally slap on your own face while chasing down that irritating mosquito. The dial is rough in 60D and the D7000 is just nice and smooth. D7000 is just driving a Lexus on the freeway and the 60D is just a Jeep rolling down the hill of the valley. I think the noise from the lense + the shutter + the dial will probably more than enough to irritate that guy sitting next to me in the concert!! Anyway, both of them have good picture quality. D7000 has a lot more features. Haven't checked the other Canon lenses yet if they are making the same type of noise on video mode since I'm new. Will buy more lenses later. So, not sure if they are all the same or just the issue of the kit lense.

Amazing, great photos, tons of features, very fast

5 stars

This camera is truly amazing! I bought this camera after playing with it at a friends house. I had the Canon 350D SLR and was happy with it until I picked this thing up. The speed at which it focuses is incredible and there is almost no wait time for writing images nor booting up. And 5 shots per sec is only useful IF the camera can focus and adjust the lighting that fast and this camera has no problem following a 2 yr old running around. If you like to have high quality images, even in the automatic mode, this camera is a must.

Great camera all around

5 stars

Well I purchased this to replace a older camera. This is my first DSLR and loving it so far although it's suppose to be a Christmas present I have had the opportunity to use it some before I had to give it back to be wrapped LOL. I really like the flip out screen and the lens is top notch. I do want to purchase a macro lens and a larger telephoto for further away shots. I've heard mixed reviews on the camera but I really like it so far and looking forward to using it alot more. The locking function know takes some getting used too and not sure I like that feature but not that bad. I looked at several other cameras (Nikon and other canons) and like this the best off all. The camera is a little heavy but it actually feels like you have something in your hand and not just a plastic toy. The lens is a big plus in being a 67 MM, the smaller lens on some of the other cameras seem to be not as vivid like on a friends nikon 5000.

i went from a Rebel to this camera and super happy. i was worried it would be a lot heavier but the weight is perfect. the body is constructed well. the provided lens is a great all around one. pick up a prime lens too if you can swing it. i got the 50mm f/1.4 in addition to the kit. battery life is outstanding, something like 1000 shots between charges. i went back and forth between this and the 7D and the deciding factor was this came with an 18-135mm instead of the 28-135mm and was cheaper. the 7D has more focus points which would be nice but 9 does the job. the video i havent quite figured out yet. im still learning that. it seems to auto stop after 30secs or so. get yourself a large SD card, i started with 8gb and quickly realized i would need something larger. i have 16gb now.

Good solid camera for the enthusiast

4 stars

I have used this camera for around 6 weeks now after upgrading from a T2i. It seems to have all the features you need (except perhaps micro-focus adjust) and is a pleasure to use. I have been using it with a Canon 18-200m zoom on trips, and it is perfectly balanced with this lens. This camera can definitely benefit from the use of better lenses though. Regular focus is fast, but sometimes not too accurate, my T2i had sharper focus with the same lens. Focus with live view is very slow, but I guess no worse than others in this class. It is a fully featured camera intended for the enthusiast, so once you move from full auto, you need to know photo basics, there is a lot to twiddle with, hence my ease of use rating. The only negative is that it is very clunky...a loud shutter/mirror, and buttons and controls lack a quality feel. The Nikon D7000 has the 60D totally beaten in this department.

Allows beginner to take professional looking pix

5 stars

I bought this camera because I want to learn photography and hope to someday become a semi-professional. With my point-and-shoot, I "missed" so many shots of my kids, but with the 60D, I catch everything. I am only using the basic zones right now (rather than manual) and the instruction manual explains how to use the basic zones very clearly. I have gotten really quick with changing from say, portrait to landscape to sports and knowing when to use each one. I've had the camera for 3 weeks, but I was very happy with the photographs from the first day when I started shooting with auto. The pictures are just beautiful. I let my four year old sit in my lap and take some pictures with the camera in "auto," and he even took several nice looking pictures! It is impressive what this camera can do. I have started editing raw images taken with the 60D, and had some even better results.

Great Camera

5 stars

Just bought this camera to upgrade from a Canon XTI. So glad I did. This camera had many more features, better photo quality, and is much easier to use. The menus are very easy to understand and the features are easy to find and use. I selected this model for the 5.3 fs shooting speed and I already find that I am able to capture more images, especially of moving subjects so I can get that perfect shot. The camera is also very light for its size and I love the swing out LCD. Also very nice on this model was the feature for HD video recording. The 18-135 mm IS lens was also a nice addition.

Canon 60D Simply the Best

5 stars

This is a great camera for amateur and professional photographers. I have read so many reviews even buyng T3i only for me to come into my senses and return it to get the 60D. Guys this is way way much better than T3i. The value of the lense that comes with it is not comparable to T3i not only for the price and the quality. Check it yourself the price difference for the lense is about at least $250.00. The body is semi sealed, sturdier, heavier, better grip and more of profesional feel. Battery life is triple the life 1500 vs. 500 shots, Shutter speed which is critical in photo shooting is 1/8000 for T60 while in T3i it is only 1/4000. Frames per second of 5.3 vs. 3.7, this is a huge difference specially when shooting sports action. There are some more here and there advantage of 60D vs T3i, just do a complete review of the comparison between the 2. Dont settle for a begginer Rebel DSLR T3i when you can buy a professional one for a few bucks more...Thank you Canon. 60D "Simply the Best." S

Great semi-pro DLSR

5 stars

We bought this camera with the intention to use it as both a great still-shot taker and a HD video camera... it fits the bill for both! The 60D shoots great pics right out of the box, but has many features and settings that will enable you to take even better photos, once you learn what it can do. If you are newer to photography, I also recommend getting a book or two from Amazon or Barnes & Noble (each have a couple specifically for the 60D) that will help you learn more about the things this great camera can do. The video we have shot with this camera looks great, and we really appreciate the fact we can choose between 30fps and 24 fps at 1920x1080. One more recommendation; if you intend to shoot video, be sure you purchase a high-speed SD card... I recommend a class 10.

Good camera filled with lots of features. Unless your taking pictures full time the amount of features might be a little much. I would not recommend this camera to someone who is upgrading from a point and shot to DSLR as the cost vs. feature benefit isn't there comparing the model. Safe the money and buy more lenses.

This is a Great Camera!

5 stars

Bought this camera a couple weeks ago to upgrade our Canon SX10IS point and shoot camera. We needed a better camera to capture our growing kids in motion. This camera has not disappointed us. By no means am I a professional photographer. With the 18-135 lens that came with the body I can shoot my 4 yr old son playing hockey indoors. I've also captured some great shots outdoors of him playing baseball in the backyard. The lens is a great all-around lens but can be a little bulky if walking around for extended periods, i.e. hiking. I love the fact that it has 1080p HD video mode and have used it quite often. The raw images that you can set your camera up to take are rather big and will significantly reduce the amount of pictures you can take. We have a 16GB card and in fine-L you can take over 2300 pics, but in Raw only 500. Battery life has been good, have not ran out of juice on any outings that we have taken, mainly due to the fact that we use the view finder more than the LCD screen. The shutter is fast and a little noisy in sports mode. Also we have a Lowepro camera backpack and the camera with the lens on it, is too big to fit in the normal padded pocket. It will fit without the lens but too much time may be wasted if trying to catch a quick shot. I recommend a different camera bag and currently researching the Canon Backpack and Shoulder Bags.

Great camera for price

5 stars

I was torn between the 7D and this camera for a few reasons. I finally made my choice based on the following factors: The 60 and 7 share same processors (although the 7 has dual) They share same sensors and guts The 60 has swivel screen 60 is a little smaller the 60 weighs a little less Overall, the 60 will do almost everything the 7 would do, but without the 8fps and use of compact flash memory. I have had the camera for about a month and have shot almost 1000 pics with it. I have been thoroughly impressed with the quality of the pictures I get with this camera. The kit lenses i received being the EFS 18-135 IS and the EF 70-300 4-5.6 IS USM. I have the 17-55mm EFS IS USM for general pictures. I have gone back and forth trying to make sure I made the right choice buying this camera. I know I did. I considered Nikons, but the grip was to narrow for my hand and was uncomfortable to hold.

Awesome camera for getting into DSLR photography

5 stars

This is my first dslr and I wanted to wait for the right one and I believe I made a great choice. I mainly bought this for shooting when I travel, family stuff, and cool architecture and scenery. The camera's size fits me just right, it feels good in my hands with the grips, size, and recessed middle finger placement. To me it's light and not bulky to carry around when I travel. I've carried it for several hours at a time and it didn't really wear on me. I was intimidated at first with all the buttons on it but as I am learning to use it, reading the manual, and following the online tutorial that I found for it by Canon I can see how future cameras may follow suit. The button layout is well thought out, and very easy to manipulate with my thumb, the directional wheel controls make it exceptionally easy to move around features. The swivel screen makes this camera versatile, you can shoot over people, low to the ground and it makes shooting videos easy. You can also take self portraits and put exactly what you want in your background and have your smiles or goofy faces the way you want them, it makes shooting fun! It has some editing features on the camera itself which is nice when you don't want to do too much editing on a computer. I like how there is a feature that allows you to shoot by ambiance. Also, there is an easy button that gives you access to choose several shooting features. The picture quality is amazing and because of the high pixel count cropping does not really take away from clarity. The lens it comes with is good enough to take most of the shots I want to take when I travel and i'm out and about. I am very happy with my purchase.

Best dSLR for the money

5 stars

I researched the heck out of this purchase and was convinced I wanted the T2i; however, once I got my hands on the 60D I realized I would soon outgrow the T2i. The 60D became the easy choice. The main thing that convinced me was the burst speed. The 60D is more than 1fps faster. That doesn't sound like much until you compare them in person. The best thing to do is take your own high speed SD card into Best Buy and shoot some pics...lots of pics, then compare. The speed of the 60D is exactly what I needed. I also liked the range of the 18-135mm kit lens better with the 60D. Ideally I would have just bought the body but all my store had was the kit. Great camera.

A camera that makes everyone look professional

5 stars

I bought this camera after a weekend of having blurry pictures by a compact digital. The compact digital works great when there is plenty of light, but not at night. This camera was amazing in the store and after much debating I purchased. I think $1,299 for just the camera is very expensive, even more so since i am not a professional. I wanted something that I could mess with and take good pics of my family. After one day in a field of blue bonnets I was convinced that I made the right choice. The pics were amazing and it looked like we hired a professional. The options on this camera are great and what really does it is the focal points. It pulls images like you wouldn't believe. If you are debating the price, trust me it will preserve the memories and save you cash in the long run. Good bye hiring someone for family photos.

I was upgrading from the Canon XSi. The focusing, low light photos, and so much more have greatly improved for me!! I was in the market for the Canon 7D, but my local camera shop said for my business needs, it was a waste of an extra $400-500 dollars. The 5.3 FPS are faster than I need. The full 1080p video is just awesome. I have yet to find a negative with this camera. The only bad point was with the store personal and not the camera. ***the uploaded pictures are reduced for this review. they are unedited and straight out of camera. These photos are very crisp, better than they look here*** You will not be disappointed with this camera!!

An excellent dSLR

5 stars

The EOS 60D is a great camera for both new users to dSLR who want a camera they can grow into and advanced amateurs who are looking to take the next step past a basic dSLR but don't want the weight, bulk, and cost of the 7D or 5D. This is my first dSLR and I chose Canon because of their continued firmware support, features, price, lens selection, and others I know use them so we can share equipment and compare notes. The features on this camera are great. The articulated screen is extremely handy as you can fold it away when not using it, keeping it protected from oil, dust, etc. You can also fold it out when doing self or family portraits so you can compose the shot. The screen is very clear with a very high (over 1 million) pixel count, meaning images look great and text is easy to read. Performance is fast with a high continuous shooting speed, 0.1 second start up time, and responsive menus. The overall feel and construction of the camera is excellent, the material used for the body is very high quality with rubber grips in all the right places and the buttons have a solid feel and good tactile response. There is a metal mount for the lens and an inner chassis of aluminum that supports the lens weight. While the body is not all magnesium alloy like the 7D, the trade off is less weight and size. I chose the 60D over the other cameras (such as the new rebel T3i) because for the price, you get a lot more with this kit than the Rebels can offer. For one, the kit comes with a much better 18-135mm stabilized lens. Additionally, the camera has several key features that separate it from the Rebel line. True, both the T3i and the 60D have the same sensor, and the same articulated screen, but the 60D does have other things that justify the price difference. The 60D has two wheels, one under your index finger and one on the back of the body so when in full manual mode you can adjust the shutter speed with the index finger wheel and the aperture with the wheel on the back of the camera. Also, the AF system is better on the 60D. While both have 9 points, the AF on the 60D is cross type on 8 of them with dual cross on the center sensor. The T3i is only cross type on the center sensor at F/2.8. This means the 60D can focus more quickly and accurately than the Rebel. Also, the 60D has an integrated digital level that you can use to get a perfect horizon shot on the fly and can be configured to show up on the main LCD or in the viewfinder. Finally, the 60D has a top LCD screen that shows the current settings. This is incredibly convenient as you can adjust the settings and see what the settings are without having to look through the viewfinder or use the main LCD display. There are also some other things that differentiate the two, such as a faster shutter on the 60D (can go as fast as 1/8000 second) and a bigger battery. The picture quality is excellent with some noise starting to creep into the pictures at around ISO 1600. At 3200 or 6400 it is more noticeable, but this is typical of every digital camera and is just an effect of how they work. The camera has built in noise reduction that will limit it, and also includes software with even more control where you can really smooth it out. AF lock is extremely fast and is really only limited by the capabilities of the lens that is attached to the camera. The features list is extensive with tons of options for making the perfect photo. It can also process raw images in the camera and take both RAW and jpeg at the same time, as well as bracket photos at different exposure levels automatically (great if you are into HDR). Overall, this is a great camera with a good price point for someone who isn't looking to use their camera as a professional. I am very pleased with it and recommend it highly.

Horrible interface design

3 stars

I bought this camera for Christmas as my first SLR camera and while I the camera takes great pictures the interface is horribly designed. Pros: - the camera takes great pictures. - the video looks good Cons: - the D60 has a horribly designed interface. I hate the squash pad in the middle of the command wheel. So I am now moving to the D7000. If the D7000 is out of your price range I recommend buying the D90. If you're undecided between Nikon and Canon go with Nikon due to a better camera design and better low ISO performance.

Fine camera for intermediate to pro user

5 stars

I have been using this camera since Nov. 2010. I really do enjoy using it and it takes fantastic photos which are tack sharp, well exposed and exhibit good dynamic range. After a "break-in" period of using it, I have become comfortable with its layout and menu settings such that I don't even think about them anymore, they have become second nature (I suspect if you have other Canon DSLRs with alternative layout of controls then it may be a bit of a drag to go from one camera to the next). Some reviewers have been critical to Canon for not including some feature found in Canon's profession DSLR's, such as focus fine tune, 100% view finder coverage, faster bust rates in continuous shooting modes and autofocus during video shooting. I agree these features would be great, but then I doubt I would have been able to afford that camera as the present 60D was at the extreme edge of my budget- if not "clipped" a bit (to use histogram parlance). I love the articulated screen which is particularly useful to me as I have a bad right arm and often cannot bring the camera to eye level. I do find autofocus in live mode slow however. The screen is very sharp. The articulated screen is very useful when shooting video. I really was not looking for a DSLR that shoots video, but the 60D's HD video is fantastic and nice to have. To me, it all comes down to picture quality and for me the 60D makes fantastic images. The color rendition is right on, the photos are sharp, the noise is low and images even at high ISO are very nice and can be enlarged well. This camera allows the user all sorts of creative control. I personally could not be happier with it. I would recommend it without reservation.

Awesome Camera

5 stars

This is a really great camera. The picture quality is excellent (if you know what you are doing) and the video quality is pretty good for a camera. My favorite feature is the flip out screen because it allows for the screen to be turned in towards the camera body which prevents damage when not in use. Surprisingly, the body is quite durable despite its polymer construction and it is lighter than the typical magnesium body DSLR's. The kit lens (18mm-135mm) does leave something to be desired. It is good but if you are a more advanced photo enthusiast such as myself or a professional you may consider buying the body and lens (es) separately.

5 stars

Bought the camera to replace both our old SLR and our Point and Shoot digital camera. The camera has been able to live up to all the reviews. There is a learning curve with the camera but taking the time to read the instructions is well worth it. Some of the surprising bonuses were the ability to connect and control it using a computer and the software that came with it allows you to combine multiple shots into a single one for such things as creating panoramic pictures. If you are in the market for a great camera that can be used as a family camera but has the ability to be used in advance ways this camera is your choice.

The 60D is advanced over the T2i (the T2i was my first Canon camera). The swivel LCD display is great for taking picture from an overhead view or the like. Also, the display can be turned around, or hidden, when not in use. I would recommend this camera, over all other manufacturers, for persons that will be taking classes in photography. The computer control feature is great for time lapse photography for the 60D and T2i. I purchased a small laptop computer just for this purpose. Canon has exceptional range of accessories (lenses, flashes, etc). As a technical writer, it would be difficult for me to improve on the documentation. In the full manual mode, every control aspect is clearly displayed. The 60D takes very good fully program mode pictures too. Be sure to purchase accidental damage from Best Buy. it's well worth it.

I am the 50th comment on this camera and I am excited to say my post is different from many you have read. If you are interested how well this camera shoot video you will love this camera. I am currently a films student and I was deciding between the 60D and the 7D. The 60D won. I saved so much money and the best of all I did not loose ANY quality the video quality and the technology the runs the video in the 7D and the 60D are identical. And you of course have the flip out LCD so that you can film in any position. Another great feature for film maker and photographers in the lens this camera comes with. 18-135mm just awesome! You really get a lot of coverage with this camera lens. I am looking forward to upgrading to a longer lens and a short lens soon, and I can afford it because of the value that come in the box of the 60D.One note be sure to get the right SD card of this camera (high performance SD) otherwise your fast camera be slowed down considerably. Buy the way I tried other DSLR's Nikon and Sony and the overall winner of the contest was Canon. I was excited telling you about this so forgive my typos if any. Enjoy!

This camera takes great pictures and video. Pictures are nice even in low light conditions. The auto settings do a nice job of juggling the ISO, f-stop and shutter speed to adapt to the lighting conditions. Does a nice job of auto focus too. Fits in my hand well. There is one thing I am disappointed with, it is the auto focus while capturing video. It does not focus like my previous video camera. I know this is really a still camera with video added. It does take great HD video, but just be aware how it auto focuses. I find myself using the manual focus for video if my subject is changing focal points.

The pictures are vivid and amazing quality when shooting outdoors and you hardly notice any digital noise (graininess) when shooting in low light conditions... The Main reason I love this camera, is the swivel High Resolution LCD screen so you can shoot photo's from any angle... The 1920/1080p HD video is very impressive on a Digital SLR Camera and is very compatible to that of a High Definition camcorder... Another great thing about this camera, is the very long lasting Lithium-Ion Battery which can take up to approximately 900 photo's on a full charge when using the on board flash... The EF-S18-135mm image-stabilized lens that is included with the camera is a very good lens for shooting portraits close-up, or, at medium range... I also purchased a "Canon - 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens" on sale for $499.99... It is a GREAT lens with great colors and crisp detail and is a must for the photographer who wants superb photographs... Canon also really put a-lot of extra's and features into this great camera and i've been very impressed with everything about it and look forward to staying a Canon customer for a very long time!!! Thank You Canon!!! The two supplied images are photo's I shot with the Canon EOS 60D late at night...

Good Camera, Good Price

5 stars

This is my 3rd Canon D-SLR. This is just a great camera for someone who is above an amerture, but not a pro or someone that doesn't have "pro money". The battery life is great as I tool almost 1000 pixs before I needed to re-charge the battery. Takes great pixs, and with included software able to do wonderful things with pixs taken in the RAW mode

Great Package for the price

5 stars

The combination of camera and lens make this a fantastic package. Certainly, buying the body and custom lenses are the way to for those who really know what they want, but you still would be hard pressed to get this much camera and lens for the price. If you want to grow as a photographer, then this is the place to start. Nothing but happiness from this purchase!

Outstanding Canon DSLR

5 stars

The Canon 60D is loaded with features, is compact, feels great in my hands, and overall is just pretty much everything you would ask for in a DSLR. The built in electronic level is just a must in any shooting situation, I have used it lots so I will say its very useful, the shutter is much better than those of the Rebel series cameras, sounds better too. The button layout is great and feels professional. Picture quality is sharp and has amazing colors, shoots wonderful pictures with lots of different setting to adjust how your picture turns out. The Camera has 9 AF Points, all cross type which is something you won't find in any of the Rebel series cameras (only 1 cross type). The swivel screen is very good for shooting video, and for general purpose photography to get to those hard to get to angles. Also is good for storage, filliping the screen towards the camera helps prevent scratches. Full HD Video shooting is beyond great, it's super sharp but you'll need a SDHC card that can write 20 MB/s or higher (preferably higher for longer videos). The 18-135mm kit lens is a decent lens for all around shooting, the focus is quick and pretty quiet, and background blur effect in portrat's is great. Overall, this camera is excellent in lots of ways and is an awesome camera for intermediate or professional photographers. A must for people interested in photography, its definitely worth the price!

Amazing Camera

5 stars

I bought this camera for my 18-year old daughter. She's a Fine Art student and was used to an older Canon EOS Rebel but wanted something for video as well. Well...this camera is CRAZY with features. She always uses the camera in manual mode and is learning more each day. This camera is not for someone who isn't totally serious about photography. Pairing it up with the better Canon lenses was a good bet because the image stabilizers works great. The added filters we picked up at time of purchase also help keep the lenses clean and safe. The video mode is OUTSTANDING - I thought it wouldn't be that great but I can't believe some of the things she shot. When I have used the camera, it's extremely fast and easy to take great pictures. I feel that the deal we got were very worthwhile. Amazing camera!

Great semi-pro Camera

5 stars

I bought this camera as an upgrade from a Canon SX20IS, i was going to get a T3I but for a couple hundred bucks more i thought this was the better deal, I love this camera!!, you get the feel of a Pro camera, the functions of a Pro camera, and the images are astounding. A lot of flexibility too, it will hold the heavy lenses better than a smaller frame DSLR due to its composite / metal housing, the 18-135mm kit lens is actually a great versatile lens, i bought the 70-300mmIS-USM lens as well,it is a bit complicated at first as there are many features this camera has.I took mine to europe on vacation and got so many compliments on the pictures i took , i was really glad i made the choice, the flip out view screen is very useful when shooting video and tripod use. I highly recommend this camera as an upgrade from a Rebel series or equivalent camera

Steep learning curve

3 stars

I have an extensive history with film SLR's, and with some very capable point-n-shoot digitals. This camera seems capable of a lot of things, many of which don't interest me. However some commonplace things seem more awkward than they should. Example: the flip-out viewer (which I love with my Canon A640) won't work jointly with the regular viewfinder. Also, resetting ISO, aperture, etc. is not nearly as intuitive as I'd like (again, this is compared to my old Canon EF film SLR). The camera's manual is really pretty good. I purchased a "field guide" as well, and it's pretty useless. I'm still going through a learning curve with the kit lens (Canon's 18-135mm). So far I'm not impressed, at least when comparing to my old Canon FD lenses.

Excellent High-end Consumer/Low-end Professional

5 stars

I did a lot of research before buying the Canon 60D and I'm glad to say my time invested into looking for the right one paid off. I looked at both the 50D and the 7D and on a whole, the 60D is in a Category on its own. After a months worth of continuous use, I'm very impressed with the Pullout/foldout screen. This feature alone (along with the T3i Model) makes this camera a step above the rest. I can take angled shots with the flip out screen in Live-View (I would suggest messing around with the default settings to get it so its not so awkward to use) that I can't get with the other two models and I like to be adventurous with my photography. Noteworthy Features that I've personally found useful -5frames a second in High-Speed Shutter mode: While I didn't think I would use it nearly as much as I have been, the action shots I've been getting are GREAT! Probably the only feature that I now like more of on the 7D (at 7 to 8 frames a second) than on the 5D. Really cool how easy and simplified this feature is. (make sure you have a decent mid-range lens) -Flip-out Screen: I knew I would like it, but man, I LOVE IT! Once I got over the strange and awkward Live-View method of taking pictures, I began to use it more and more. You have to use different buttons to focus, take pictures and even shoot video. It's not what I would call cumbersome, but it wasn't something I liked right off the bat. -No-Slip camera strap: I've owned several Canon cameras in my past and I was thoroughly impressed with the attention to detail on making a Strap that doesn't/won't slide off your shoulder easily. I suggest checking out the underside of the strap to see what I'm talking about. It seems like such a trivial feature but it impressed me so much, I had to mention it. Additional features I would like to mention. I have a Canon 50mm 1.4 EF Lens that I've bought a few years ago, I highly recommend this lens along with the Canon Speedlite 580EX II Flash. The Basic Flash that comes with the camera is good, great in fact, but superior range of the 580 takes some of the best pictures on my new 60D than I've ever taken. I've you're interested in this Low-end Professional series camera, I would highly recommend in some Prime (IE 35mm, 50mm, 85mm or 100mm) lens to really make this camera shine. You will NOT regret it.

Well I must say after reading some negative reviews about this camera and negs about the competition I came to the conclusion that the Nikons etc also have negs and the best way to decide which dslr you want is to try it out yourself. Once I got it in my hands I loved the feel and pro look. Considering your getting a high quality zoom ,18-135 IS., with it makes this a outstanding bargain!!! Picture and video quality which is what its all about is outstanding I needed no more thoughts. Fantastic deal with 10% coupon!!!

Great Start for DSLR -- Especially Video

5 stars

I'm finish my undergraduate work in telecommunications and needed a video camera to start doing some freelance work, but don't exactly have the cash to shell out for a nice $3,000+ video camera. While it's not perfect for video right out of the box (audio being its main limitations) I was shocked by the incredible quality of both photos and videos right out of the box. Since this is my first DSLR I'm still learning all the nuances of the settings and everything else that comes with the DSLR learning curve, however I highly recommend this for anyone who is serious about learning photo and/or video. If you're just testing the waters in photography, I'd go for a cheaper model. However if you're trying out DSLR video, I promise you will be VERY happy with this--especially if you're not quite ready to spend an exorbitant amount on a camera. This camera gets the job done and makes for some absolutely wonderful photo/video products.

Durable DSLR

5 stars

I was going back and forth between the 60D and the 7D. Besides the $600ish price difference what is the real difference to the "typical" consumer? While I was prepared to purchase the 7D, I was concerned about the size (and secondly for me the weight). After handling the 7D I realized it was a significantly more robust camera than the 60D. A bit more than I was looking for as a hobbyist photographer. That being said, the 60D still has a very full and robust feel and is comfortable to hold. Its predecesor, the 50D (which I have not handled), had a metal body (which also added weight). The 60D is not metal but still feels very stable and firm, not cheap by any means. I don't think the non-metal case is an issue, but rather a benfit, because it makes it lighter. As I learned from reading specs. on other websites, the 7D, 60D, and Rebel T3i have the EXACT same 18 megapixel image sensor. In image controlled image tests on these websites, it is pointed out that image quality between these three cameras will be almost the same. The main difference between i see between these cameras is the ability to cusomize both menu and button functions, and customize how you shoot your photos. The 7D, however is significantly more advanced in that it has Dual processors (not image sensors), which will result in much faster image processing, and therefore more photos per second. Also, the 7D also has superior autofocus capabilities (19 points vs 9) which will help in focusing. Of course faster is always better, the 60D has been super fast for me (5.3 frames per second), and I havent had any focusing problems. Another thing pointed out by websites and people I know is that the lens you attatch will have more effect on the photo quality than the actual camera body. This makes sense, especially considering 3 cameras with the same image sensor.. I was concerned about the 18mm-135mm lens in the kit. I am glad that I purchased the kit with the lens. Although it does feel "cheep" (I knew this when I purchased) it does seem to take great photos. It is noisy (uses a DC motor, like a little toy car sound), but still think it is worth it in the "kit". I probably wouldnt pay the $500 this lens sells for separately, but with the kit, it is a good value if you do not have many or any lenses.Takes better pictures than the way it feels. Considering this was my first DSLR I decided to purchase the 60D Kit, and spend the extra money on purchasing "better" quality lenses. I have purchased the 70-300mm USM (quiet) tele-zoom lens plus the 60d kit for less than the 7D kit with one lens. Although, I never planned to use it, I was however very disapointed with the LiveView (use the LCD screen instead of the viewfinder to take pictures) on the 60D (don't know about the others). It takes too long to focus in this mode. Because it is so SLOW (compared to regular viewfinder), I find it a useless function. Some review have not liked the lack of tactical feedback from the buttons (button are not overly responsive). Although I can see how some may not like the button response, they are still quite usable, and it is not a big deal to me. Of course there are other differences, but I found the main broad differences are as follows. Since all have the exact same image sensors: -T3i is good for budget consious who is not overly concerned with custimization or options when taking photos (3.7 frames per second) -60D has more options, and is faster than the T3i (5.3 frames per second) -7D is much faster at processing and focussing camera for those who want specific photo options available to them. (8 frames per second)

My husband and I have always been interested in pictures and video. This camera's quality comes thru on your very first shot and we could not be more pleased. We've been told by a couple different professional photog friends that we need a more specific lense for surf photography. However, we're not looking to turn in our pictures for money so to our untrained eye we are surprised every time we get home and view the excellent shots we just got! Over time we'll probably expand our accessory collection. For now we feel like pros using exactly what came in this package. We just got a new puppy and we're having so much fun shooting him. LOVE that you can take pics while in video, I feel like I'm not missing a beat by having to choose my modes. This camera does it all!

Great camera, though decision making process

5 stars

In a process worthy of today's TV voyeurism, I reached the end of the road and took a decision. I hesitated to the end and even changed my decision right at the cashier!!! Over the last couple of months I analyzed the pro's and con's of a few DSLR models. Things such as brand, initial price, subsequent lens investment, features, quality of photos, quality of video, one equipment to cover it all, one initial lens to cover most situations. And these were the runners up and the pro's and con's as of my own needs and taste: Nikon D5100 Pro's: Best price, practically all the features that I wanted. Same processor as the D7000. flip out screen. 1080p video with 30 fps. Con's: the lens, once I tried them all at Best Buy, I realize that the 18-55mm was not going to make me happy and that would leave me immediately wishing for a different lens. It didn't seem practical to carry 2 sets of lenses when I could use the slightly larger 18-105mm lens for 90% of what I'd expect to be shooting. Nikon D7000 Pro's: Best processor, best reviews, kit lens is 18-105mm which allows room for a variety of uses. Menus are familiar to me, given my previous ownership of Nikon point and shoot. Con's: right on the edge of what my limit to spend was and really above once extended warranty and taxes are included. No flip-out screen, comes with a plastic cover that seems Nikon pull out at the last minute to reduce scratches and other damages to the exposed screen. Internet reviews mentioning a hot pixel issue and Jello effect in video mode if camera is panned. Video in 1080p is 24fps (instead of the 30 now more available). Canon 60D Pro's: Price with all included remained at a comfort zone. Kit lens is 18-135mm. It is reviewed as having better video than Nikon (and it provides 1080p at 30fps). Price at initial investment and subsequent is less than with the Nikon D7000. I have seen the Canon lenses offered at reduced prices more often than I have seen the Nikon's. Flip-out screen. Cold proof & shock proof (I'm sure with limitiations). It felt right in MY hand, whereas both Nikon's were slightly off for me (smaller, shorter, just off). Con's: Some conflicting reviews with issues like getting too hot to the touch, not as true to the color as Nikon D7000 (per reviews). It's menus so far are strange to me, but heck, it shouldn't be rocket science. That all said and done, as of Friday morning I was set on getting the Canon 60D. That changed towards the end of the day and remained in my head as the whole family was driving to Best Buy. Once there, I spent over an hour (bless my wife and kids for being sooooo patient with me) looking at all 3 cameras, jumping from one to the other within minutes and back....until I told the clerk I would take the Nikon D7000, she smiled, took the camera to the cashier... and then smiled back when I went BACK and told her I'd be taking the Canon 60D instead. A big thank you note to the personnel at my local Best Buy (El Paso, Tx.) for being so good to me that day. And there I finalized the process. I now have the Canon 60D. First Impressions (after a couple of outings in 14 days): Battery really lasts, I have not had to recharge, despite 300+ pictures, video recording, looking at pictures and video over the screen, updated firmware, etc. So far, that looks sufficient for my needs. It still has 30% charge over the 14 days I've had it. Video recording.- The fact that you have to position the dial to video and then press the button is a drag. I did not realize how much of an issue this would be for me until last night at a school event poorly lit where I was standing (seats), where I could quickly change from whatever setting to video, but to get back was close to impossible because I couldn't see (trying to get back from video mode to Tv). I thought that illuminating the top screen would help, but it didn't because the top section doesn't tell you what mode have you dialed. Live mode doesn't help either as it still doesn't provide you such information. A single push button on the body of the camera- in which ever mode you happen to be- should be the standard nowadays. Nikon's have it, this is a con for this camera because it really makes it inconvenient. Mode dial.- A lot of reviewers have complained about the push down button to release and turn the dial. I don't see a big issue with that, but the fact that the dialing wheel doesn't turn 360 is an issue. Video mode for example is at the end of the dialing mode, so to go from shutter priority (Tv) which I like the most, I have to go 200+ degrees one way and then again back. Manual (M) or Aperture (Av) are close to 250-270 degrees. Macro mode.- I could not get a decent picture with it until a friend told me he had the same issue with a Panasonic camera with a similar lens and that he was able to then get macro shots by holding the camera at least 18 inches away from the subject. Sure enough I tried it and that worked. And as I started to write this I saw a note in the bottom of the lens that says: macro 1.5ft!!! Problem solved. Still, we have to consider that the kit lens is a more a Jack of all trades type of lens. Not specialized in anything but a fairly good overall solution for the beginner (and most likely good even after the beginner phase). Weight.- After owning only point and shoot whereas the Nikon Coolpix P100 had been the "heaviest" camera I had ever owned, you really notice the difference around your neck. It won't break your back, you just feel the weight over the first couple of times that you take it out. MegaPixels adjustment.- I was a bit disappointed that your options to downsize a file go from 18MP to 8MP. I would've expected a more gradual downsizing in files. Maybe reducing say 2MP's at the time (18 -> 16 -> 14, etc.) or even every 4MP's (18 -> 14 -> 10, etc.). It might be my own ignorance on the subject, but as an amateur it would've been a good feature to reduce the size of the files. My pictures go to my computer, I don't have a library of hard drives to store this many MP's. Menus.- Different to what I was used to, but nothing that would be rocket science. I'm learning my way over them. Given time, I'm sure I'll like it. Lens cover.- It covers the lens (duh!), but the locking mechanism is really small. You have to be very careful when handling. This would be one of my first spares that I'll buy. I'm afraid that I will eventually break it or lose it. So a spare will prevent unnecessary exposure to the lens. Vari-angle LCD.- Wonderful feature!! This is one of the main reasons I decided to get this camera (instead of the Nikon D7000) and it has lived up to expectations. Now, I really prefer to shoot through the view finder, but when needed, the moving LCD is great and when not, it can be flipped with the screen to the inside, thus protecting it without an ugly obtrusive additional protective screen (sounds familiar Nikon?). Quality of video.- very good, no complains. If I run into the camera overheat issue that I've read about, I'm sure I'll be spitting and cursing. Quality of images.- Mmmmhh, this camera could use a better photographer!!! But even there I have been able to obtain some good pictures. Not the camera at fault, but my lack of experience with DSLR's in general. I'm sure I'll get there and so far this seems like a very good first camera for my needs and resources. Overall I'm happy so far with the camera. I'm not a Canon convert (at least not yet), but like the camera at this point. I probably won't be adding lenses in the near future as I have some other things I need to take care of first. I hope this helps all of you evaluating this camera.

Cons: The lens has some trouble focusing on undefinable scenes like storm clouds and closeup shots that are within 6 inches of the lens. Otherwise it is perfect!

holding off on final judgement

3 stars

Have had my 60D (w/18-135) for about a month and thought I'd add my limited opinions. You will see why I have said holding off on judgment. Pros: the ergonomics are perfect for this user, everything comes to hand (finger) quickly. the weight is not an issue as I thought it might be. Coming from an oly c-8080, I figured my hikes up into the mountains here with pack, 2 tripods and other assorted day hiking gear would be too much. not so, no real difference over the 8080. the menus are very intuitive even for this 12 year user of oly digital cameras. most needed settings are easily available on quick view or menu buttons. Even just scanning the manual, I was up and running within hour. Course, there are other specific options that I have not gone into yet and they are in sub menus. In short, the menus shouldn't frighten one away. the swivel screen is great for this user who sometimes is on his stomach taking flower pictures. the swivel screen on the oly 8080 was great for limiting this and the 60d's is just as wonderful. olympus digi cams are notorious for weak low light focusing. the 60d is just the opposite. yeah! the reassuring quick beep of focus lock is so wonderful. ergonomics, menus and screen get 5 stars. Cons: After taking over 600 pics the first 3 days and expecting so much and believing, at least on camera screen, how wonderful they appeared, it came as a shock when I viewed them on computer screen at 100%. all were soft and blurry! now, the pictures were taken with/without tripod, IS off on tripod, self timer/no timer, fast shutter/slow shutter, various lens openings, zoomed out/in, etc... everything I would do with past cameras. and they gave me great shots. Going on the net about soft focus lead me to several listings about focus problems with some canon cameras/lens combos. a small limited problem, but some units came from factory with issues. I did a focus test and realized that the camera was focusing in front, hence the softness issue. not having any other canon lens to try, I went with the fact that either it was camera or lens. So, I have sent them off to shop in CA under warranty to see if they can calibrate lens/camera and give me the product I was so hopeful about when I purchased it. So, if you too have new 60d and it seems the pictures it produces are not what they should be, check to see if it focuses where it should before you condemn yourself or the camera. A canon technician calibration could make you smile once again. Thus, the holding off judgment in the subject line. I will let you know how all this goes.

I loved the camera at first but now i don't.

2 stars

Well i bought the camera hoping to get a really great camera that took really sharp and crisp photos. I have owned it for about 7 months and the camera worked great for about 4 months. I am currently having issues on the focusing part of it now. All my photos are coming out a bit too soft i would say almost blurry. I figured maybe i got a bad camera out of the batch when all the sudden one of my friends another photographer is starting to have the same issue with her canon camera. so i went ahead and looked it up on google, i just typed in canon 60d focusing issues, and wow to my surprise the bad reviews were endless!!!!!! It seems like everyone is having issues!! I know best buy will take care of the problem but it just gets me frustrated to have to send it in and wait for it! that's the whole reason in buying an expensive camera. Even the 5d is having these issues. I am just going to go with the nikon d700. But be warned great camera at first, but you will eventually have issues. theres no reason to have 18 megapixels if your pics are unfocused total waste of quality!!

My second camera!

5 stars

I love the camera but most of all I love the service I was provided during the purchase. My salesperson was extremely knowledgable and patient with me. She made it a point to go over all the details I needed to be aware of regarding camera features. It was a pleasure to purchase this camera with that type of service.

Love it but It Could be Better

3 stars

The goods- Its way fast, easy to use, controls are great, and lots of options and custom adjustments. I use a 7D at my work and love it to but honestly I prefer my personal 60D. I've found that the swivel LCD can be extremely handy but the focus time sucks in live view mode which brings me to the bad. The Bad- In Live View mode when doing photos it takes forever to auto focus. You can speed it up by switching to a "quick focus" mode but don't try it when your doing a video. I know there isn't a whole lot of DSLR's out there that can autofocus well in video or live view mod but I'm sure there soon will be. If they can do it with a camcorder they can do it with a DSLR and when that day comes I'll be selling my 60D. And if you're wondering what is the differences between the 60D and the 7D are, it's pretty much just processor speed (you get faster FPS out of the 7D) oh and it's easier to swap between photo and video modes on the 7D as well. The 60D is still a great camera for the money if you ask me.

But for a nail, the kingdon was lost . . .

1 stars

I returned my entire camera kit due to a lens filter/protector. Lens on my top of the line Canon had a stripped thread disallowing a lens filter/protrector to be installed. Lens only came with camera, no stock of camera. Thank God! Switched for Nikon - much better product, much happier.

I love my new Canon camera. It is simple to use and has a lot of nice features. I also love the lens it came with.

Excellent camera

5 stars

This camera does awesome in low light settings. The flip out LCD is a nice option to keep it protected when it's in the camera bag, or when you just want to use the viewfinder. I've already used the HD video mode a bunch, and the video is crystal clear. I couldn't ask for any more from a digital SLR!

Great camera for a beginner

5 stars

This is my first DSLR and I'm very happy with my choice. I have a Canon PowerShot A610 and Canon SX10IS, both with articulating screens, and this was a feature that I definitely wanted in my first DSLR. I wanted a camera that was a step up from the entry level Rebels without spending a lot of money. The pictures are fabulous. The SX10IS gets noticeable noise at and above ISO 400, but the 60D can go far beyond that. I LOVE the grip on this camera. It feels very secure in my hand. I've always loved cameras that had a little chunk on the right side to hold onto, and this camera has the best one I've owned so far. I have neck problems and HATE the weight of a camera on my neck and purchased a wide strap Canon camcorder wrist strap for the camera. I'm also using this same model wrist strap on the SX10IS. When I use the articulating screen, I prefer to use it straight out where I can adjust it to any angle I want versus straight up against the back of the camera. I find that a neck strap interferes with this type of use of the articulating screen - another reason why I love the wide wrist strap mounted on the right side. I'm right handed and the screen pulls out to the left, so wrist strap on the right works perfectly for me. This camera is heavier than the SX10IS, so I was worried about carrying the weight of the camera in my hand for any length of time with the wrist strap. But the solution I use on the SX10IS works equally well on the 60D despite the extra weight - I raise my arm and rest the camera on my shoulder with the lens pointing upward. I was worried about battery life on a proprietary battery as all of my previous cameras have taken AA batteries that are easy to find in a crunch, but I've read great things about the battery life on this camera and I have not been at all disappointed. The shutter is a little noisy compared to what I'm used to, but I'm getting used to it. A lot of the controls are on the camera body, eliminating the need to have to go to the menu system constantly to change settings. I love the LCD screen on top that shows the camera's current settings and allows me to see changes I'm making on the fly. I've already used the night light button in my back yard at night when shooting my first night time moon shot on a tripod and it allowed me to easily see the camera's settings and make changes quickly in the dark.

Better than a Rebel, little less than a 7D

5 stars

It's Better than a Rebel, little less than in cost than an Canon 7D with about the same features and quality. No issues yet, still learning all the functions.

A good mid-range upgade for photo enthusiasts.

4 stars

I, being an owner of the nikon D7000, was skeptic at first when I used this camera for a day when borrowing it from my friend. One of the first things I noticed was that it was constructed of a sort of posh-plastic, as compared to the magnesium alloy body of the d7000. Although this did feel cheap to touch, the camera body overall fealt very solid and much beefier than the d7000, which appealed to me because I have big hands. Another great feature was the rotating screen, which allows you to take high and low angle shots with ease, or take some candids without alerting your subject. Although it does not have as many AF points as the D7000, I found the picture quality to be slightly more superior than the D7000 (this was after closely examining the pixels, but unless your making some laarge prints, the difference is almost unoticable.). Video quality was also superior to the D7000. The one thing that really annoyed me though was the rotating dial on the back which surrounded the button pad, I found it rather difficult to use, but I suppose this will aquire getting use to. Overall, I think it is a great camera for a canon lover looking to upgrade from the rebels or someone who wants a DSLR with video capability to surpass the D7000.

A gift for my son...

5 stars

My son have been behind this camera since last August 2011 and have read everything that you can imagine from reviews, specs, youtubbe videos, etc. and finally, maybe because of the subliminal persistence of my son... we decide to gift him this camera for christmas. Since Dec 25 my son has been taking picture of almost everything that goes in front of him and so far the camera was exactly what he was expecting. He is 18 and sport photography is his passion. I guess that if he choose this camera along many others is simply because he thinks is the best that fits his needs and since he got it, the camera was exactly what he was expecting, so bottom line I fully recommend this camera to anybody, it worth every penny!!!

Digital Camera mirrors the SLR of Old

5 stars

I've used Canon cameras for a long time. 10 years ago I bought a Sony Digital and haven't used film ever since. That Sony has served me well, but when it came time to upgrade to the Digital SLR I found comfort in the fact that the new cameras used the basic layout of the old film cameras. With this camera I know where to look for things like Shutter speed and F-stop adjustments. I know where the focal sensors are and how to adjust them as well even though I just bought this camera. I did not find this true when I experimented with a friends new Nikon digital SLR. This isn't a negative reflection on Nikon, I simply know Canon cameras better and I'm glad to see that Canon kept the basic layout no matter how much more complex these cameras have become. This camera is obviously more complex than the old film cameras. I've been trying to get comfortable with all the bells and whistles this camera will do. However, the basic shooting and adjusting needed to take good pictures is easy to find and I love how easily I can shoot, adjust, shoot and adjust. I don't like the software that comes with this camera. It isn't at all easy to use. The raw files, CR2, is also something of a pain. I can only open them with the Canon software and they are really big files to keep if I am rarely going to use them. I love the flip out screen, but I worry that I'm going to break it off in a moment of distraction.

My first Canon DSLR and I love it.

5 stars

Excellent camera. Still shots are great. Videos in 1080p are awesome. Swing out screen makes it easy when shooting videos. Lens is also great for getting close ups. Invest in the larger sdhc cards because the files take up a lot of room when shooting at max settings. Plastic is light weight but I wish it had a metal body.

Great Entry Level Camera

5 stars

This was my first DSLR, i did a lot of research before i made the plunge. I opted for the 60D instead of the 7D because i saw no major difference other than the weight and durability of the camera. I'm very pleased with my first couple months of use. Pictures have been fantastic and video even better. I would definitely recommend for the first time buyer. I would recommend you purchase the body only and save some money for a good lens.

great camera for anyone needing video

5 stars

in my opinion the swivel screen is a must have for anyone who's looking to shoot video, the 60D has a 1.6x cropped sensor but that's a small price to pay for 720PHD 60FPS or 1080P 30FPS. the body is plastic but feels strong. if you're looking to dabble in videography this is the best camera to go for, if you're looking for a pro camera you probably don't even need to be reading this review seeing how you're most likely looking for a full-framed camera. if you're one to shoot photos and take video with rapid interchangeability this camera will annoy the living daylights out of you because changing from manual mode to video mode requires you to unlock the dial and spin it almost 360º.

Picture Quality is GREAT!

5 stars

Easier to use than my cheaper older Canon. Picture quality is improved in low light, fast moving shots and other scenarios. ISO range is wonderful for taking low light pictures without a flash that turn out clear not grainy. Haven't even tried the HD video feature but that's not why I purchased this camera. I have had it in use since Christmas and am still learning. The more I learn the more I like the camera. My old Canon is a 6 Megapixel Digital Rebel xls and I had it for years. I upgraded to increase the printable picture size and to increase my ability to control my camera in low light and other scenarios. I take wedding pictures and my clients love the quality printed and digital.
