Canon 600D

The Canon 600D or EOS Rebel T3i is the new kid in the block for Canon SLRs. It is a lower range DSLR camera, both in price and in its entry-level SLR status. The 600D is actually described as a 550D with an articulated screen as its upgrade feature.

Since the latest Canon DSLR is market for beginners to the DSLR system it has maintained the Basic feature which is an image adjustment technique that calculates the exposure based on the scene. The basic feature in the Canon 600D also allows users to conveniently alter the image and control the background blur without the complication of adjusting the DSLR manually to get the effect.

The Canon 600D also employs a multi-aspect ratio shooting, specifically in live view which is a more convenient way to compose you shots. Other features of the Canon 600D are the creative filters including camera, fisheye and fake-miniature looks.

For people who like flash photography, the 600D is loaded with a wireless control off-camera flash and can remotely control the flash of Speedlite 320EX and 270EX II.

THE GREEN SQUARE

The latest Canon DSLR exposure mode which has a ‘Scene Intelligent Auto’, with a new ‘A+’ icon on the mode dial to match. What happens in this mode is that the scene in front of the DSLR is analyzed automatically and the exposure is set, image-processing parameters accordingly are put into place. This is great for newbies who want to take great feature but have yet to learn how to fully operate the camera.

VIDEO SNAPSHOT

The 600D uses a ‘Video Snapshot’ movie mode, a feature which is based on the concept that movies are often more special when stitched together from a number of short takes. So what the mode does is record snip (2,4 and 8 seconds), then the clips are automatically arranged in a composite movie. The users have the option of putting a soundtrack to the images. Aside from this add-on feature the camera captures full HD videos.

MAIN SPECIFICATIONS

The 600D has not employed any new sensor from Canon. It is the trusted 18MP APS-C CMOS sensor that is still in place. The 600D’s ISO expands from 100-6400 (up to 12800) and can shoot 3.9 frames per second. The autofocus has 9 points and 63 zone metering system.

THE CONCLUSION

The Canon 600D camera review is a positive one. The 600D may be marketed as entry-level but the camera offers a little bit more. The higher class EOS 60D may have better handling and ergonomics but the core features and specs are the same. The price tag for the 600D kit (includes a 18-55mm lens) is $947.44.

If you like to try photography as a hobby, we recommend the 600D. It’s still a DSLR camera but with the option of being able to operate it like a point-and-shoot camera.

fantastic

5 stars

I just purchased the T3i which is a upgrade from my Xti... This camera is fantastic.. You can use the live view as well which will be great for macro .. other than for me personally I will use the viewfinder mainly cause that is what I am use to doing. Still the live view will be handy to have and use. The handling of the camera is easy and comfortable. If you are already use Canon SLR's you will find this camera to just as easy to find your way around.. and the on screen detail will be great for beginners so you know what the settings offer.. BUT you will still have to make adjustments for your settings.. The screen is just a description of the modes you so keep that in mind.. As for the ones like myself that are use to the camera already it is basically the same as all others.. I looked at the 6 and 7D's and read so many articles my eyes were crossed on the information and the do and don't have's between the camera's .. and in the end I went with this camera .. You are getting features from 2 other fantastic cameras and then the added details of this camera and the price is cheaper and the 18mp is there and the flip viewfinder and the ability to use live view as well.. It was compatible with my flash from the Xti which was a bonus as well. I personally found no draw backs with the camera so far.

Awesome DSLR, awesome value

5 stars

I LOVE this camera. Moved up from an original Rebel which still works great. I'd highly recommend this camera to anyone interested in serious photography.

Wow!

5 stars

Okay, this is my first DSLR and I didn't buy it for photos but for doing interviews. Wow is all I can say and for the money it was the best deal out there. Get prime lenses though for that great look and you don't have to buy them at first you can rent.

Overall very nice

5 stars

This is certainly the best camera I've ever owned. Not meaning much though since I am certainly an amateur photographer. This camera is very easy to use and coupled with the 430EXII flash, and Photoshop elements software creates the best photos of our newborn daughter that we could ever ask for. I was set on a Nikon 5100 instead of this for the better sensor, however, using them in-hand made this decision sway towards the Canon. DP reviews were hand in hand between the two. The only gripe is the Canon software provided isn't a simple install on Mac OS Lion. So handling RAW images seems to be a little in the dark of rme right now since photoshop elements won't edit them. I have had success in the past with Canon's tech support and will contact them on this issue soon. That being said, RAW images can at least be stored and viewed in iPhoto until I I can get either a better editing software capable of manipulating RAW files. Brilliant pics regardless. Learning how to bounce and diffuse with the additional external flash has helped here significantly too. A lot of fun.

Great camara

5 stars

I think is a great camara. The only difference between the 3i and the 2i is the display screen. This is convinient for angles pics and recording but the specs are similar to the 2i.

Great for beginners or enthusiasts alike

5 stars

Okay, a little over a month ago I did countless hours of research to find the perfect camera for everyday, amateur, casual use. I looked at the t2i, t3i, 60d, d3100 and d5100 and I settled on the t3i and never looked back! This camera is great, but I will go over a couple features that I found really nice and reasons I picked this guy. 1080p HD video with the flip out scree is VERY helpful for any kind of video. You might not think the flip out is important but it is so much easier when you want that cinematic shot at a local festival or capturing the moment when your child blows out candles for his/her birthday. Point of view is key, with the flip out, you can put the camera anywhere and still see what you are shooting with out straining your neck. Fast capture rate, important when getting kids playing sports or moving animals at the zoo. Light weight feel to it (compared to higher end dslrs), I wanted something lighter for all day carrying around on my neck or backpack. Smaller feel (compared to the d60 or any other higher end dslrs). The difference is noticeable in your hand and although the d60 feels like you have a better grip, I have smaller hands so works perfect. I'd recommend heading to the store and trying for yourself. That being said, those were some of the important features to me when I decided to go with this camera. Sure the image quality, video quality and build quality were great, but with cameras at this price, they are all really nice! I'd urge you to really look in to what you like in a camera before choosing. It will be the minor differences that will sway you!

Great So Far

5 stars

I do not have a lot of experience with DSLR cameras, but so far it has been fairly easy to figure out. Picture quality is tremendous and superior to any other camera we have used. Because i haven't used any other DSLR i can't compare them, all i can say is it has been a pleasure to use and has done everything advertised.

Out Of The Box

5 stars

Out of the box this camera is shooting pictures 30 times better than my Powershot is30. I am blown away with the shots I'm getting. I am a total know nothing too with cameras. This is my first DSLR. I plan on learning everything about this camera and how to take better pictures. It's inspiring almost. I had the camera for 24 hours and I am already floored.

Easy to Use, Great Quality. A very nice camera.

5 stars

Well worth the money with the included 18-55mm lens. Camera body: Good ergonomics. Won't easily drop this camera. Shutter and other button placement is acceptable. Lack of a real Viewfinder eyepiece, makes for nose contact on the back (screen) when using the viewfinder. Cant change shutter speed/aperture as easily as I want. 18-55mm Lens: Lens is a kit lens, so not the highest quality in feel and construction. Image quality is great for most purposes. Recommend you purchase addl battery if you plan on weekends out with heavy shooting. You will be glad you have a new charged battery when you need it.

Amazing quality pictures!

5 stars

I purchased this camera primarily because I have 3 children and I love taking pictures of them at every occasion.this camera is amazing,I still have to figure out all the features on it,but I'm having alot of fun with the continuous shoot feature.the 18mp,makes for such a clear picture,I am sooooooo happy with this purchase,it was completely worth every $$$spent! One thing I would recommend is buying a zoom lens with it,because the standard lens,is just for basic photography, you can't really get close up shots!

This is my first D-SLR, and it's been a great camera to learn on. It takes excellent pictures and is easy to use. My favorite function (so far) is the multiple shot action mode! I'm still learning how to use all the functions, but I'm impressed with it to date.

Great Camera...but doesn't cut it for XXD users.

4 stars

I own many Canon cameras/bodies, but the main to compare are my 40D, 20D and S95. Yes, the S95 vs. T3i. It is amazing. When I bought this T3i on 12/31/11, I knew it had drawbacks. There are some that are impossible to live with. I cannot set Kelvin white balance temp. I cannot use a TC-80N3 without adapters or a different shutter release. No top LCD that I use very frequently. No scroll wheel to adjust aperture in manual on the back (a carryover from the 300D that I owned and loved to move to a 20D). After many years of shooting digital, I know where to throw my Kelvin temps. This "shoot something white" stuff is great for my S95. Not on a DSLR body. On both, you can tweak the color a bit, but I like K temps. These higher end features are nearly worthless to a non-XXD user. But, to move from the higher bodies to this, it hurts. I used the T3i on New Year's Eve and spent an infinite amount of time on simple adjustments that my other bodies had instant access to. The overall output? EXCELLENT! I shot in RAW/JPEG, but only edited JPEGs as RAW files in Adobe ACR (CS3) with my normal RAW workflow. Great results. That is the same flow I use with my S95 since CS3 does not offer RAW support and DPP software is horrible. Highlights and shadow levels can be nicely adjusted as JPEGs in ACR. Awesome feature added in CS3. The output at ISO 6400 is very nice. The 1080p videos at ISO 6400, not so great. That 18-55 IS lense is not bad for the added price. Canon does a great job with IS at the lower price levels. I have no idea about the automatic controls. My T3i has been in two modes...manual and video. The only two that should exist on a DSLR body! AV/TV are great too (if you actually understand them...), but the others (GREEN SQUARE) are nothing more than glorified P&S modes. Buy the Canon A3300 if you plant to use those modes. Overall, the T3i is a great camera body for beginners and people with a decent amount of experience. I do recommend it. It just doesn't fit my use/experience and that is not meant to degrade it. But, I bought my 300D Rebel in October 2004 and quickly dumped it for my 20D in early February 2005. HUGE DIFFERENCE! I still shoot my 20D just as much as the 40D...17-40 f/4L on one and a 70-200 f/2.8L on the other. 580EX and 580EXII on the bodies with a shared 430EX slave. Awesome.

i hate best buys with a passion..... but

1 stars

i ordered this product online (originally was supposed to pick this up locally which was a mistake on their part) about 1 1/2 weeks before thanksgiving holiday .... and i did not receive this product until sometime just before christmas.... i ended up having to go to hhgregg to get the same camera which i bought locally during the 1st week of december...and had to return the one i ordered from best buy.... i called them numerous times to cancel my order and none of them were able to do so and the lack of customer service/ignorance the company has is unacceptable.... but i can say one thing..... do not buy big products from this store unless you want to be hustled around.... best buys customer service is probably the worst customer service as compared to dealing for the government.... and mind you.... we all know how that is like ..... having said that much..... i will start my review even though i bought this product elsewhere... the camera itself is well built and solid for my 1st dslr camera... in the past i have had many point and shoot cameras but i always felt a bit limited on certain thing i wanted to do when doing my picture taking.... i also was looking at the nikon d5100 also at the same time when purchasing thing camera and gave in to canon for its reliability from numerous friends and family members... although i might not have as much experience as others may have i am happy with this product.... i tested out this camera at one of the japanese gardens and a couple of other botanical gardens and the picture quality was much better then i originally thought.... i started with the auto mode.... and slowly worked with other functions as i got more comfortable.... i started using the tv, program, and av functions.... although i am still learning how and what to used these functions for ... i was happy to know that the camera did give a description of what each feature had to offer.... that was useful at times .... although its a awesome product and am pleased with what it had to offer.... my over all rating for best buy should be 0 stars just because of what i had to go thru..... but for the camera itself.... i would give it 4 stars

Great first DSLR

4 stars

This is my first DSLR and I'd recommend it for anyone's first. I've only had it for 1 week and I'm pretty used to the buttons, how to focus the lens, etc. The price wasn't bad for a DSLR but it could have a Tiny bit better picture quality. When you zoom in close to the photograph it still has a bit of graininess. I can't wait to upgrade to the Canon 7D! The quality is much more clear. The only other thing that I don't like about this camera is the battery life is very short. I am buying a second battery to carry around in my bag. It would be bad if you were at a shoot or event and ran out of battery... My overall review is that I would recommend this to a beginner!

Choosing Between the T3i, T2i, 60D, and 7D

5 stars

The Canon Rebel T3i takes the consumer level dSLR a couple steps closer to the mid-level Canon 60D with the addition of the rotating rear LCD screen, remote flash firing, and in-camera processing features. The already highly competent, older Rebel T2i already shared many important features with the 60D (and even features of the semi-pro 7D) including the 18 MP sensor, 63-zone exposure metering system, high ISO performance, HD movie capabilities, and Digic 4 image processor. With these new upgrades, it might make it even more difficult to choose between them. Rebel T3i vs T2i: Since both cameras share the same 18 megapixel sensor and Digic 4 processor, both the T2i and T3i will create images with exactly the same image quality, produce the same low light-high ISO performance, shoot at 3.7 frames per second, and have nearly the same size and build quality. They are both offered with the 18-55mm kit lens. The T3i is very slightly larger and heavier due to the addition of the rotating rear LCD monitor. And that is one of the biggest differences between the two cameras - the rotating rear screen. The other major difference is the ability of the T3i to remotely control multiple off-camera flashes. Like the 60D and 7D, you can use the built-in flash of the T3i to trigger other Canon Speedlites. Some other minor additions to the T3i include the Scene Intelligent Auto Mode, which is a feature borrowed from point and shoot cameras. Other additional but not essential upgrades include the in-camera processing Creative Filters, and the ability to choose different image size ratios and to rate your images. There is also a marginally helpful Feature Guide and some additional video features like Video Snapshot. Canon Rebel T3i vs. 60D vs. 7D Sensor and Image Quality: All three cameras share a very similar sensor and 18 megapixels, and so their image quality will be virtually the same. All are capable of taking professional quality images. Exposure Metering: The three cameras all share the latest 63-zone, dual-layer exposure metering system and 4 metering modes. That means they will all determine the exposure virtually identically and enable you to take properly exposed photos in most every situation, including difficult back-lit scenes. Autofocus: The T3i shares a similar autofocus system to the 60D, with 9 focus points and three auto focusing modes. However the 9 AF points of the 60D are more sensitive than those of the T3i: all are cross-type in the 60D, only the center is cross-type in the T3i. The 60D autofocus system is much less complex than the sophisticated AF system of the 7D with its 19 AF point system and its additional Zone, Spot, and Expansion focus modes. These various modes address how you want to deal with and group these numerous AF points. Plus the custom settings of the 7D allow one to customize how the AF system works - how it tracks subjects, how it deals with objects that come between you and your initial subject, how quickly it responds to these changes of possible subjects that are at different distances from you, etc. However, if you are not an avid sports photographer, a wildlife shooter, or someone who understands, needs, and will use the elaborate features of the 7D AF system, then this shouldn't sway you. Construction: The T3i has relatively strong construction of a stainless steel frame with polycarbonate body. The 60D has a stronger and lighter aluminum frame and polycarbonate body, but not as strong as the 7D's magnesium alloy construction. The 60D also has some amount of weather sealing - more than the T3i, less than the 7D. But for most users, including even those using the camera daily or in travel situations, the construction of any of these cameras is far more than strong enough and durable enough. ISO: Since they all share a very similar sensor, the ISO sensitivity and performance at high ISO settings is virtually the same for these three cameras. But don't take my word for it, check out the camera sensor tests at dxomark. As you can see, they all share the exact same overall score, and show very similar performance. Controls: As with construction, the buttons and controls vary with these cameras. Unlike the T3i, the 60D and 7D have nearly every control an advanced photographer needs on the exterior of the camera and they also have the top LCD panel and rear Quick Control Dial that are not on the T3i. With all the cameras, any controls can also be easily accessed with the Q button and menu or in the other menus on the rear LCD monitor. The top buttons of the 60D set only one setting each, so this is less complicated than the multiple-setting buttons of the 7D. Canon has removed the white balance (WB) button on the 60D that the 7D has, but that isn't a big deal - use the Q Menu. Another change on the 60D is that the Multi-controller has been moved from the thumb joystick like the 7D and 50D and placed in the middle of the rear Quick-control dial. If you plan on using your camera on Auto or Program most of the time, then the controls of the T3i are more than sufficient for your needs. If you work in Av, Tv, or M modes and need quicker and more direct access to your controls and the additional top LCD screen to view and change your current settings, then you need to consider the 60D or 7D over the T3i. Menus and Custom Functions: These allow for greater control over customizing how the camera functions. The T3i has less Menu and Custom Function setting options than the 60D, and the 7D has yet a few more than the 60D. These settings enable you to customize the operation, function, and controls to work how you want them to, including things like exposure increments, peripheral illuminations correction for lenses (fixes dark corners), tweeking how the autofocus system operates, setting more precise white balance settings, and customizing which button does what. There are ebooks such as "Canon T3i Experience" and "Your World 60D" available at the Wordpress blog "Picturing Change" which walk you through all of the Menu settings and Custom Function settings so that you can set up your camera to work best for how you photograph, and also begin to learn to master all the advanced features, settings, and controls of these powerful dSLR camera. Wireless Flash: Like the 7D and 60D, the T3i incorporates wireless flash triggering. This allows you to trigger multiple off camera flashes at different output levels. Articulating LCD Screen: The big new feature that the 60D and T3i have that the 7D and T2i do not is the articulating rear LCD screen. This may prove useful for videographers, as well as for setting up compositions while the camera is on a tripod, for macro use, or for using it from unusually low or high vantage points. Viewfinder: The T3i has a pentamirror viewfinder with 95% coverage of the actual resulting image. The 60D has a large, bright pentaprism viewfinder with 96% coverage, not quite as nice as the nearly 100% view of the 7D pentaprism. Processor: The T3i shares the same Digic 4 processor as the 60D. The 7D has dual Digic 4 processors. However, if you don't need to shoot dozens of continuous images, you probably won't notice any processing speed issues. Continuous Shooting Speed: The T3i can shoot 3.7 frames per second. The 7D can shoot a blazing 8 frames per second, in which the photos barely change from frame to frame. The 60D can shoot a respectable 5.3 fps which is actually a more useful rate. If you need the extremely high fps for sports, wildlife, or other action shooting, get the 7D. If not, don't be swayed by this excessive feature. Memory Card: The T3i and 60D use the SD memory card. The 7D uses the CF card. Battery: The T3i and T2i use the smaller LP-E8 battery with less capacity than the LP-E6 battery used by the 60D and 7D. Size and Weight: The T3i is smaller and lighter than the 60D, which in turn is smaller and lighter than the 7D. AF Microadjustment: The 7D has this feature, the 60D and T3i and T2i do not. Full HD video: Of course they all offer this capability. Note that this is not video for your kids' parties and soccer games. It does not have continuous autofocus while shooting, as a camcorder does. It is not designed for that kind of use, but rather for serious videographers who typically manually focus. You can adjust autofocus while shooting by pressing the shutter button or the AF button, but it may have a less than desired looking result and unless you are using an external microphone, the autofocusing sound will be picked up. Flash Sync: the 60D and T3i do not have a PC sync flash socket to plug in PC sync cords for off camera flash use. The 7D has this. However, they all offer wireless remote flash capability with the built in flash as a commander. Ease of operation: While beginners may find all the buttons, controls, and menus of any dSLR difficult and confusing at first, the menus and controls of the T3i and T2i are pretty basic and simple to learn for a dedicated user. The additional controls and menus of the 7D and 60D are all quite intelligently designed, intuitive, and straightforward for the more advanced user. Again, have a look at helpful guides such as "Canon T3i Experience" and "Your World 60D" to begin to learn to master all the advanced features, settings, and controls of these powerful dSLR cameras.

Been waiting for the price drop

5 stars

I researched a DSLR for almost a year. When I read reviews and found it to have all the features I wanted, I jumped on it. I've had this camera for about 4 hours, and have already found it easy to use and shoots amazing video and photos. The things I wanted was ease of use for me since it is my first DSLR, flip/rotate lcd screen, bulb mode, and good movie shooting (besides the loud focus motor). You will want a mic if you plan on changing focus with video. But, this is not a "video camera" is it.

First Digital SLR

I was looking for something better then the blurry point and shoot that I had and have always enjoyed my Canon SLR I bought a few years back but it was not a digital camera. I went to the store ready to buy another brand but was really impressed with the picture quality of the canon and ended up buying it. I am really happy with this camera. It takes great pictures and it is fun to use.

Great step up for capturing sports

5 stars

Bought this camera as a step-up from the 2 Sony point-n -shoot, small digitals I have. I need to capture my kids at there sporting events, { volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball}, without all the blur I get on slower, smaller cameras. It was a little intimadating at first, but the staff at the Waterloo store showed me how easy it is to use. I find my self using the extra 55-250 lens,{ that I bought as a package}, the most. The supplied 18-55 is great for close shooting, and is a lot lighter to use than the larger lens. The settings are easy to understand, {sports, low light, scenic}, and the large display is easy to read. It will take me a little while to figure out all the fine adjustments of speeds and exposures, but thats just part of educating yourself to the advantages of a full sized camera. There's quite a few bottons on the body, {that I've yet to figure out all there functions}, but I haven't had any issues with bumping them inadvertantly. The camera fits my large hands well, and looks like it will serve me well for years to come.

Exceptional quality, options and easy interface

5 stars

WOW the T3i is smokin' hot! The quality of the images even with the basic kit lens 18-55mm is excellent, and I dream of the day I buy my next upgraded lens and how my images will look. The amount of options on this camera is insane yet so very easy to use!. I've quickly advanced myself into the M mode as there is more flexibility and control for creativity. Night shooting has become a new passion and the low light results are superb! The articulating LCD is awesome, especially for low angle macros and shots aimed upwards. I haven't used the video yet, but look forward to learning the ins and outs, and how to perfect it as I can only say good things about this camera. Way to go Canon...I love you even more!

Great! But get a good memory card

5 stars

Great camera, takes amazing quality pictures and has a nice clear swivel screen. I have a transcend class 10 memory card and when testing movies in 1080, after about 8 seconds the camera stopped recording automatically. the reasons for this is either overheating (this wasn't the case) or a bad memory card. I am going to get a sandisk extreme III card to see if this issue goes away (hopefully my camera isn't defective?). Once this happened, I was able to restart recording, and I only had the problem in 1080, not in 720 so hopefully the new card will prevent this. You can only use the cool digital zoom in 1080 video so I want to be able to use it. Also I LOVE the creative filters...the soft filter especially, it makes pictures look soft and pretty, and you get 3 levels to choose from. Miniature and toy camera are fun too!

I was originally planning to purchase the t2i, but the options of the swivel screen and a few others really appealed to me and I opted out and waited for the t3i to be released. I am glad I waited, I really like this camera and it takes amazing pictures! The saying is true plan on spending your money in glass if you want to have professional looking pictures. I also purchased the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM Lens which blows away the stock lens in picture quality! The professional Canon L Series Lenses are very expensive but if your looking for the best picture quality out of your camera plan to purchase one! This camera turned out to be everything I was looking for and then some. If your looking to buy this camera or compare it to the t2i visit dpreview they have a great comparison and review online.

Love the image stabilizer, because it reduces need for tripod, so it is easy to travel with. Manual easy to read and detailed, good size to carry in photo bag. Though it will take alot of practice and time to learn the numerous features, there are enough features to assist you with almost any type of photo. The macro on the standard lense is not the best, really need to purchase a macro lense to get a good close up. I too found it slow in low lighting, in automatic.

This is my first DSLR camera. I moved up from a point and shoot. This camera is very easy to use. The flip screen is a great feature. I have taken approx. 300 pictures with the camera and it takes great pictures. I bought the camera to take pictures of my children playing sports. I needed a camera that would take action shots without the blurry picture, of the person in motion. I have used the video feature several times and was never impressed with the results. I will stick to still photographs and leave the video to my video camera.

Can you say DSLR + HD videos!!!!!!!

4 stars

My wife bought this camera for me on father's day, it was a pretty sweet gift since i'm really into photography. I just had a new born too so it was nice to have it around to capture all those beginning moments. Nice to have HD video capabilities too but it failed on me when I needed it most. For some reason the videos capture kept cutting out or quitting on me. My card was a class 10 with 20 mb/s of transfer speed but I guess the camera was not operating as it should. That really was a bummer since it was suppose to be a dual purpose camera, now it only seems like I'll be taking mostly photos. This camera is really not that much of an upgrade from the T2i, except for the flip LCD screen. The two cameras are exactly alike for the most part so if you don't really need to take them low and high shots then go with the T2i and save yourself an extra hundred bucks. Like I said I love photography so even though it doesn't really succeed at videos, I'm glad it'll do for my photos.

This camera is a major upgrade from my previous Rebel. The biggest complaint I have is that the printed manuel is in Spanish and Best Buy will not correct this. There is a disc that comes with it so that you can read the manuel in several languages. The video clip feature is an excellent addition, those I rarely use it. The image stabilized lense that comes with the camera is extremely useful. The picutures are much better that my previous camera and the enlargements are much more attractive. I have had problems with the autofocus in low Iight. I would recommend this camera to those that can not afford a professional grade camera.

Great step up from point and shoot...

5 stars

This is my first digital SLR, so the feature set and operation are a bit daunting. The product manual is not sufficient to get a good understanding of the operation of the camera. I am taking online classes specificially for the T3i in addition to basic exposure theory and lenses. I would highly recommend to anyone purchasing this unit who is unfamiliar with product. With this said, my first efforts using the auto mode and 'P' mode have been spectacular. With each new feature explored, the intuitive layout of the operating buttons become apparent. It is unlikely that I will go to full manual and thus far nothing in the operation of the camera suggests this is necessary. This camera is an excellent next step in transitioning from point and shoot.

This camera is very easy to take photos with. The quality is very good. The ease of operation makes it a simple and less frustrating camera to use than most. This is the first SLR (well DSLR) that I have purchased in 20+ years. Much to my surprise, I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I purchased additional lenses and hope to get back into my much missed hobby. The quality of the camera mechanics seems to be as high as my old Canon AE 1 that I have had for over 20 years. This is a great investment for a novice to an intermediate or even an advanced photographer.

Fantastic Beginner D-SLR

5 stars

I'm completely new to the world of DLSR's and shopped around for a good unit that would last me for awhile. I had originally been looking at the T3i and the T2i. Other than some photo shooting features and the swing out LCD, there isn't much difference between the two however I ended up getting the T3i and don't regret it one bit. For the uninitiated, this might take some time getting used to since even the settings have settings on this camera. Previously, I had been just fine with my SD780 IS P&S but wanted something a little more to play around with. I'm still learning all the features about the T3i but it's been great so far even though I've only had it for a couple days now. The pictures on this thing are super crisp and the HD video (while grainy at max zoom) is great as well. For me, i think the unit is a bit on the small side but for more normal people, I think this will be fine if not a little bit on the larger side. My only "gripe" about this thing is that the auto-focus is a little slow at times and doesn't pick up images but that could be simply my lack of understanding with the settings. Overall, I'm super thrilled about this camera and looking forward to testing it out and taking great pictures form now on.

Fantastic mid-level camera!

5 stars

This camera has everything anyone who wants to turn photography into a hobby could ever want. If you're new to the game or only plan on doing it for fun, this should be where you stop. Don't spend a penny more because this camera has EVERY feature you're ever going to use, and likely a few extra. I had purchased the t2i a couple of weeks ago and fell in love the first time I pulled it out of the box. I took it to the Caribbean on vacation and got some amazing photos. It was fast and I suddenly became the "trip photographer" as nobody else's camera could compare. I chose to upgrade upon coming back because I was having difficulty taking certain pictures because of the screen being flat and built into the camera. The new swivel lens is worth a lot if you plan on being "creative" with angles in your photos. Further, the t3i allows you to choose which size photos you want to take. If you want to take "wide-screen" 16x9 as you only plan on viewing them on your computer or HDTV, then you can choose to take pictures to fill the screen. In order to do this on the t2i, you have to post-picture crop it to that size. This is a great feature as most people will only view these photos on their HDTV or PC. If you're into HD video, this camera does full 1080p very well. The t3i excels in that it has "stereo" audio. The t2i only has single channel audio. It does make a small difference. The swivel screen will also make a huge difference if you plan on doing more than small video clips. It also has a few other filters and post-picture internal processing features. I'm really glad I took the t3i back as the swivel screen is the biggest difference to me. You may find this isn't worth the $150 street price difference right now, but I did. The pictures look identical as the image processor is the same. It's a features game. You'll be incredibly happy with either the t2i or the t3i. They are more or less the same camera with the t3i having a few extra features that will come in handy!

Amazing picture & video for under $1000

5 stars

If you're looking for an excellent DSLR that shoots full HD video as well as high quality photos for under $1,000, then look no further than the Canon EOS Rebel T3i. This is my first DSLR and I can't believe it took me so long to buy one. When I first purchased this camera, I had the intention to use it primarily for video, but upon playing around with it the first few days of ownership, I began to use it just as much for photo as I did for video. It's so easy to use and it just feels comfortable in my hands. The photos come out great in nearly any setting, and it's especially great in low-light. The video is just as good, but if you're looking to pick up sound as well, good luck. The camera's built in microhphone doesn't meet the quality of the video, so having an external mic set up is highly recommended. All in all, I give this purchase two big thumbs up!

I had an opportunity to use major features of Rebel T3i during my wife's dance performance recently. Although I wanted to take both pictures and record video, I ended up recording video during the entire performance. Photos are excellent with brilliant colors. I even had a little photo contest with my friend and his point-and-shoot. The difference is very clear between SLR and point-and-shoot camera. Especially when you zoom into the subject. Only negative I have to say is regarding video recording. During the recording the zoom operation is not very easy. Capturing still during recording will cause 2 second pause. I am still learning to use this camera, I might get better at recording video in future. I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone who is new to SLR.

Well, I just upgraded to the T3i yesterday from the Xti. I have not really played with the video on it, because thats what video cameras are for and I need a better card. Out of all the reviews I've read, i didnt see a single review about ISO's. So heres my little take on that. Noise levels are better than my Xti, the noise level at ISO 400 on my Xti is ISO 800 on the T3i. When you look at the photos in say Adobe Camera RAW at 100%, noise does show up at ISO 200 already. with the T3i. I love the live view as when you make exposure/shutter and ISO adjustments, you will see the exposure in real time. The T3i is a great camera for the price

Incredible camera

I purchased my Cannon T3i about 4 weeks ago. Since then I have taken shots of the kids in mid-air jumping into the pool, water skiing, portraits, and some airplanes at an airshow. I am amazed at the quality and the ease of use. It's very easy to look like a pro. Hardest problem is choosing which shots to delete. I recommend at least an 8GB SD card. One note of caution, I purchased the combo pack with the 300mm zoom lens. A camera-smart friend of mine pointed out that the lens did not have image stabilization (IS). The short lens that the camera came with has it, just not on the long lens. I have noticed package deals on this camera that have IS. Not sure why the lens I have didn't have it. I can't tell the difference, taking excellent shots. I highly recommend this camera.

A good camera for everyday photography

3 stars

This is a great camera for people looking for a step above the point and shoot cameras. Set to automatically choose the proper settings almost all photographs will come out as expected. The problem is when you want to shoot unusual scenes. Like a humingbird drinking from a flower. Most cameras, including this one, will capture the wings as a blur. Although the Canon T3i's body is capable of capturing the wings the lens is NOT. To capture a scene like this you need a "fast" lens with a small F-stop (1.x or maybe 2.x) and the lens that ships will not go that low. In conclusion, a good / great camera for most photos. But, if you want to take pictures of birds in flight, tree branches blowing in the wind or fast action sports - consider a better lens.

Picture quality and video quality are awsome! Light weight and easy to carry around all day. Abundent settings to get whatever type of picture your looking for. Great battery time. Articulating screen makes this camera a breeze to use in any position and the quality of the screen is outstanding. 18 mp stills and 30 fps video makes for fantastic pics and HD 1080p videos on my 55 inch big screen. Professonal quality all the way giving you the best of both worlds in one camera. You'll have many years of enjoyment with this baby. I highly recommend it!

LOVE IT

5 stars

I have only had this a couple of months & I LOVE IT. Best purchase I've made in a long time. The pictures I've taken have come out fantastic. The quality & color cannot be beat. Purchased it as part of a package sale. Came with: camera, 2 lenses, carrying case, battery & memory card. I'm finally getting pictures like I was used to getting with my film 35mm.

Nice but Complicated

4 stars

This is my first DSLR. I wanted a camera that I could learn and grow with. It is taking time to get familiar and comfortable with all of the camera's functions. The instructional video does help. I bought this camera primarily for scenic and nighttime shots. Have been able to take some good ones, but will need to practice A LOT more.

Beginners Dream Camera

5 stars

This is the first DSLR camera that I've owed. The T3i camera is a very easy camera to use and takes great pictures. I've had this camera for a little over a month and have literally taken thousands of pictures. Some of the pictures that I have taken look like a pro...some of my friends can't believe it when I tell them that I took some of the pictures that I am showing them. Overall, if you have the budget and are the least bit interested in photography, this is an unebelievable camera. Highly recommended for beginners.

Bought this camera for use for my website while attending Comic-Con this year. Took some great quality pictures and fantastic video. For the price I got this for, it works flawlessly. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to start making videos and still take some pretty photos.

Way to go canon! - Get the 18-135MM lens kit...

5 stars

This Camera is awesome for the money. It is more for the video than it is for the Photography professional. If you want to take pictures spend the $$ and get the 60D. The swing out screen is awesome and the video quality is great. The sound is less than pro but you can use a Zoom H4n to capture audio and sync up later. My recommendation when buying this camera is spend the extra $$ and get the 18-135mm lens instead of the 18-55mm. You will be much better off. Awesome piece of hardware. Way to Go Canon!

Awesome in Every Way

5 stars

I purchased this as a slight upgrade from my T1i, and love the added features. The tilt/swivel screen is great, and I especially like that you can store the screen facing the camera body to avoid scratches. I intend to start doing more video work, but haven't used video much yet. I also like the ease of using an EyeFi card to wirelessly download images.

Easy to Use Out of the Box

5 stars

I only recently purchased this camera and took it with me on vacation before reading any of the manual. It was easy to use out of the box and the pictures turned out well. I am sure once I actually read the manual and figure out the camera, my pictures will only get better....but for point and shoot, it still works great. Since I haven't used the camera enough, my ratings reflect that. I feel this will be a good camera which will offer many benefits (I just didn't want to over or under rate it).

Great Camera even for experienced photographers

5 stars

Amazing picture and video quality! The image stabilization is greatly improved over previous versions. The menus are more indepth than previous Rebels which could make it somewhat difficult for a beginner but the manual is very informative. The software that comes with it is very easy to use. The viewing screen that can move is a nice feature when taking shots that you are either at an odd angle from or where you want to get closer without your face being closer to the subject.

I Love this Camera

5 stars

I bought this camera for our upcoming cruise to Alaska. I bought the bundle with the memory card, backpack carrying case, and extra telephoto lens. It takes wonderful clear photos. This is my first DSLR camera and it's very user friendly. I loved the fact that it's also a HD video camera. I see getting a lot of use out of this camera. I have noticed that it's easier to take pictures using the eye view finder instead of with Live view. It takes longer to focus using live view.

Amazing, but some flaws.

5 stars

My camera is everything i wanted!!! The pictures some out amazing. I would only suggest that if you take alot of pictures like me, buy a bigger flash, but it has heated up and it wont take the picture. And as your time goes on, you'll want a bigger lens; depending what youre taking pictures of. The battery last basically forever!! I did have to send in my camera though last week because the lens would not focus and when that happens, it wont take the picture. So hopefully it works when I get it back.

Love this camera so far, flawless and very, very quick to take the next picture. Without flash, it takes about 3 pictures per second, with flash it takes 1-2 per second. I received this as a package deal with a Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 image-stabilized zoom lens and Canon 55-250mm f/4-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens. Also great products I reviewed on.

Happy for the Most part

4 stars

It had been 10 years since I bought a good camera. My Sony DSC-F717 finally died. So, the features of this camera for the price (not much more than the Sony) blew me away. I really love the "P" setting where I can take low-light pics. It adjusts the shutter speed and aperture to take the best pic it can, rather than complain. Of course, you can still end up with blur doing this but sometimes it adds to the affect. My only gripe is that sometimes when the view screen is open, there is a long delay after I press the button. It never happens when I switch to the viewfinder. I got the whole bundle, with an additional 55 - 250mm telephoto lens, the Lowepro All Weather bag--great bag--16GB memory stick and an HDMI cable. I hope to get at least 10 years out of this one! -D

I am still learning this camera moving up from smaller point and shoot digital cameras. All of my pictures have been amazing. Just operating on auto is all I have needed to do, except sometimes disabling the flash for more fantastic photos. I can't wait to experiment around. You won't be sorry if you buy this camera. My son has the T2i and really, I don't see a big change except the wide screen display on the T3i can be moved out to the side and tilted for better opportunities for photographing. I really don't think I will use it though.

A Lot of Camera and Features for Most People

4 stars

We now have Five of these machines. Four are for technical use in my wife's business, the fifth is our son's camera that is his pride and joy. The user is going to get a lot features including digital video with this very moderately priced DSLR. The APS-C sensor size is what is used in many of the most popular amateur camera and most amateurs will be thoroughly satisfied with the variety of lenses and accessories that this camera can accomodate. Most owners should be pleased and not suffer any buyer's remorse for spending under a thousand dollars. On the other hand this is not a high end DSLR with a full size sensor, so try and put in perspective that you are getting good value for your money

My 1st dSLR

5 stars

I have no previous experience with SLRs so there is lots to learn. But even just stumbling through the settings and using the presets has given me quite a few pictures that I am really really proud of so far. The only thing I am mildly disappointed in is the built-in Flash. It is sort of weak and has a very limited field. I feel an external flash should be purchased immediately with this camera for the best results.

A very easy to use digital SLR camera

5 stars

The pictures I shot with this camera turned out great. Some of the shots would rival those of a "pro". The image stabilization lenses eliminated any operator error due to camera movement. I liked everything about this camera. There is nothing negative I can think of when it comes to using this camera. A fully charged battery lasted all day long for me, with power to spare. A plus was that it works with the other EF Canon lenses I already have, so I did not necessarily have to buy new lenses. Because of the image stabilization lenses available, I chose to purchase those.

This is a lot of camera for the price. The picture quality is superb. I have been really impressed by the image stabilisation in the kit lens it really works well espically in low light when shooting without a flash. If you are a canon user moving up from one of their creative compacts you will find familiar menus, symbols and settings. This camera offers a lot of potential so read the manual and experiment. The video mode does not have an an active auto focus while filming other than that I love this camera.

Great DSLR for a newcomer to manual operation

5 stars

Having used the Canon T3 to dabble in photography, I was looking for something that was feature laden, easy to pick up and use, and was a camera I could grow with as I become better at understanding compostions, lighting, etc. I feel that the T3i (600d outside the U.S.) is all of those things and more. I did pretty significant research for a number of weeks and ended up comparing this camera with the Nikon D5100. I finally went this way after one particular review demonstrated the differences in menu layout and ease of use in navigating between settings efficiently, and in time to capture the shots you set out to shoot. I committed to using the manual settings in an effort to better understand photography and to capture what I saw in my minds eye. All of those great shots you see in advertisements, posters, or just great pictures were what I hoped to begin to capture as I progressed (my guess is the majority of those weren't done with the auto settings or a point-and-shoot). Going into the menu of various settings is a single button push (marked Q, just to the right of the flip-out 3" screen). From there, adjustments to aperture, F-stop, Iso, white balance, resolution, etc., are as simple as selecting that setting, then scrolling the wheel located just behind the shutter button on top right of the body. I found that simply adjusting various settings slightly allowed me to capture the right shots. I have taken well over 3000 photos in the last 5 weeks since purchasing the camera, and I'm happy to report I can see improvement from day one til now. Very fun indeed. The beauty of digital photography is the ability to take hundreds of pictures in order to capture a few great ones. Let that be the reason to try the manual settings and see what this camera is truly capable of.

Best in Price Range

5 stars

Photography has been a long time hobby of mine starting with my own darkroom while I was in high school. After much research I came down to the t2i or the t3i. I had previous bad luck with my last Nikon computer chip failing and I loved what I had seen coming from the Canons. I ultimately choose the t3i because of the rotating screen since I intend to use it for video as well and screen angles are often important in those situations. Frankly, I'm in love. The very first picture was taken blindly since I was trying to catch my son off guard (he hates cameras). It's beautiful. Even worth framing in my opinion. It's hard to take bad photos with this camera. If you know what you're doing you can have as much control as you wish and even if you donn't the automatic modes never fail. I have noticed some of the default modes seem a little more saturated than reality but it always looks nice. If your goal is a perfect color reproduction, you might need to play a little but for consistantly great looking photos, you can't go wrong. Get a telephoto lens if you want close ups.

POSTED BY RobW1 on November 09, 2011

Simply Amazing

4 stars

I'd consider myself an advanced beginner/novice and just switched from a point-n-shoot sony to the Canon t3i and all I can say is wow. The instant noticeable improvement in image sharpness and clarity is amazing. I have had some issues with dark sense being fuzzy but I'm sure that's my lack of understanding all the settings. The only legitimate issue I have come across is recording video in HD at 60 fps. I have a class 10 64 gb card and it isn't able to record fast enough so the recording stops automatically. On lower fps it works fine. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because of the price. Best Buy has the list price at $929.99 while the MSRP from the canon website is $899.99. If you explain that to the sells person they will match the price for you, but I don't think it's fair they try to take an extra $31 from their costomers.

Great Camera for sports

5 stars

I love this camera! After spending several days researching cameras I had came down to 2 this one and the Canon - EOS Digital Rebel T3. I finally decided on this camera after talking with the sales associate. I take a lot of basketball pictures and most of the gyms are really dark. WIth this camera I can take pictures in low light settings without even using the flash and they come out perfect. And there is no blurring. With the pictures below it is straight out of the box before changing settings. This gym is really dark. Most of the pictures I take are fast acting so the speed of this camera was really important to me. The video is great too. Its crisp and you can follow the actin without any blur. You could even hear the coach on the other side of the gym yelling at my daughter not to reach. The pictures are crisp on the MV setting. Sports mode is good but I perfer the crisp pictures as to the ones with the action a little blurre. The sutter sound is a little loud in the video when you take a picture while recording, but I wouldn't be recording a lot anyway. So that is not an issue.

Thank you Canon for making such a fine camera. My wife and I wanted a camera other than our Iphones to take quality photos of our newborn son to print out and share with the Grandparents and holy moley...we are super happy with the T3i. I spent about a week and a half learning the 3 most important elements of a DSLR (shutter speed, aperature and ISO) and now I'm shooting in full manual mode and we are impressed and happy with the huge difference of clarity and quality between our Iphone cameras and this camera. I've been a point and shoot guy for quite awhile now and I'm super stoked that I've been able to step up to a professional quality camera.

EASY TO USE!

5 stars

I bought my camera Thanksgiving night online. I received it about a week later. I spend about 10 minutes looking at and used it the next day. It was on automatic, but took beautiful pictures. During Christmas vacation I plan on spending time playing with it. I went to Best Buy and bought a video that goes step by step with you on how to do the different things with it. I did spend a little time with it. It seems very helpful. I plan on looking at it a little bit more though.

Great camera for beginner!

5 stars

Great camera for a beginner but makes you look like you are a professional. My friends can't believe the quality of the pictures. I think I have a little bit of talent for picture taking but probably not much more than the average person. It is very easy to use. Now I would love to take a class on photography.

Very good DSLR, but could be better

4 stars

This is our first experience with a DSLR. We've had several point-and-shoot 35mm and digital cameras over the years. We wanted a quality SLR that could take nice photos from a distance and without a flash. We have young kids who always have concerts or recitals or musicals, and point-and-shoot cameras simply don't have the sensor size or shutter speed to handle this. They would always come out blurred or extremely dark. The Rebel T3i excels in these situations. Virtually all photos that we've taken have come out beautifully. For beginners like us, the controls are pretty simple and straightforward (after a few minutes with the manual). Usually I keep the camera in flash-off mode because the photos just look so much more natural, yet with plenty of light. The HD video is also very clear, but this is one of the things I'm not crazy about. If you're taking a long video of a concert, you'll be fine. But the camera will not change focus while recording. This means if you try to zoom in or focus on something new, you have to manually focus with the lens. And obviously this never looks perfect. The live-view screen is very nice and I like the articulating screen that allows you to see what you're shooting if you have to hold your camera over your head or something. The autofocus with the Live View is very slow, though. I, probably like others, assumed the autofocusing would be the same, but it's completely different. I've gotten used to taking pictures without the screen, but if you're addicted to the screen from all the LCD panels we have now, the performance won't seem great to you. (focus time can be 2-4 seconds vs. 0.5 seconds) The review on cnet.com was very helpful. I would probably try out the Nikon D5100 if I was to do this again. But I'm still very happy with the T3i.

Great Camera for any to use

5 stars

Better than the t2i as far as features and built in filters. Audio levels is something the 7D, 5D, and t2i do not have. This was only a 100 bucks or so more than the t2i. It is worth spending the extra money! I will say it is much better to just get the body and then buy the sigma 30mm. The kit lens is great if you want a total package and to start shooting right out of the box, however, for better images and video prime lenses are the best! Remember that you should invest in not only a good camera but more over the glass of a lens!!

I bought this after playing around with my friends T2i and ever since I'm loving this purchase. I discover new features every time i use it or while i use it i discover new ways to take certain pictures. I love all of its features and was easy to learn how to use them all. This camera has no cons, its all pro.

Fabulous camera for reasonable price.

5 stars

Have only had camera about a month. We've only used Canon Elph for several years. The picture quality and ease was great. We finally decided to move to a camera that we could snap multiple pictures in a short period of time. We also wanted to be able to add a telephoto lens for getting closer to events, travel, etc. So far the T3i has not disappointed. Looking forward to many years of great photos.

Great Camera. Go for 55-135mm kit lens though.

Fantastic camera overall. I would reco however the 18-135mm lens instead of the 18-55mm lens especially for travel. It allows you to carry a single versatile lens with a decent range.

Perfect for a newbie!

5 stars

I am worse than an amateur. I am worse than a newbie! I have no idea how to run a camera other than a SIMPLE point and shoot. Why did I get this camera? Well, my kids are in sports. I was worried because this thing is huge! (compared to my other little-bitty cameras) I took it out of the box and it worked! Granted, I am not using all the setting that I can be using. The point being, I am not totally intimitated to try to learn more about my camera. I was so worried I would NEVER get to the point of being able to take a picture because there are so many buttons. I could use it right away. Even someone like me!!

Wow, this is one amazing DSLR camera.

I finally upgraded from my point and shoot camera Lumix ZS7 to this Canon T3i DSLR camera. Wow, this Canon camera is amazing. It takes great pictures. I love the ISO pictures at night. They are super clear and bright. This is the main reason why I switched from my point and shoot camera. I can always count on my new Canon T3i to take beautiful pictures. I'm not a professional but just a photo enthusiast who loves taking great pictures. I took most of my pictures in the AI setting as I'm still used to point and shoot. I will need to try the manual mode to explore other options of taking photos for fun. If you're in a market for a nice new camera, this one is it. Good price too.

Worth the upgrade

5 stars

I bought this camera (for myself) on Black Friday so I could have it before the holidays. I initially wanted the T2i, but upgraded to the T3i for the moveable viewer. This turned out to be hugely helpful when taking family photos using the timer--which we do a lot of during the holidays. You can fold the viewer out and rotate it forward, so even if you can't see it clearly when you hit the timer and jump in front of the camera with the family, you can see it well enough to know if your head is getting cut off. The picture quality puts to shame my old 35mm compact camera, although I guess I expected that with 18 megapix. I have struggled a little bit trying to toggle between the camera's various functions. The owner's manual is clear, but it's not completely intuitive trying to do it on the fly. I also can't get it to take the number of frames-per-second as advertised, but I think this may have something to do with using the flash and/or the memory chip I'm using. Overall I'm very happy, and consider this money well spent.

Fantastic Picture Quality

5 stars

This is my third DSLR camera I've owned, and by far it's the best. Excellent value for the money, easy to use, and picture quality is excellent - crisp and clear and better than average low light capablity means more realistic indoor shots not washed out by flashes. Outdoor action / movement shots are also surperb. If you're moving up from a compact camera, this is the choice for you and you'll wonder why you waited so long...

Excellent Beginner DSLR

5 stars

I bought this camera back in August of 2011, so I've been using it for 8 months. I wanted to wait long enough that I'd had proper time to learn and use the camera before writing a hasty review. Prior to buying this camera, I'd only used simple Canon point-and-shoots. I knew I was ready for a DSLR, but I couldn't decide between this camera and the comparable Nikon product. After reading what felt like hundreds of reviews, comparing photo quality from both cameras, and trying them out at the store, I chose the Canon. Main reasons being, I was familiar with Canon and I liked the way it fit in my hands better than the Nikon. Truthfully, I find them both to be amazing products and I think you'll be happy either way you choose. The first thing I did was buy the Canon T3i For Dummies book and read it cover to cover. I can't tell you how helpful that book has been in udnerstanding just what this camera is capable of. Your camera comes with a manual, but it's not nearly as user friendly and informational as the book. At the beginning, I shot solely in the automatic modes - Auto, Landscape, Portrait, etc. These settings produced beautiful photos, but I knew the camera could do so much better if I learned to use it to it's full capabilities. I branched out and started trying the settings with more creative control and worked myself up to shooting, almost always, in manual. The pictures that you can take in Manual, even just using the kit lens that comes with the body, are amazing! The colors are bright, the focus is sharp, and the artistic control you have over your photos is well worth the money you'll spend on this camera. I've recently ordered the Canon 55-250 telephoto zoom lens and the Canon 50mm 1.8/f prime lens and I'm looking forward to learning to use those lenses in conjunction with the camera. My advice: Take everything slow. Be slow to make a decision on the camera you want. And be patient as you're learning to use it. I don't see myself purchasing another camera for a LONG time.

This camera is incredible. It beats any other. I have been using the older Canon model for years for business and this T3I is so much better. It is easy to use, picture quality is amazing and the sport feature takes pictures faster than I can say boo. I have captured my daughters sleding the day after our recent snow storm and I caught wonderful memories. I can't wait to use this camera when my daughter starts travel soccer again outside. I haven't yet gotten the chance to explore all features but I can tell it will be easy to understand and use. Happy photographing!!

Great DSLR Camera

I love this camera. I am still trying to figure out some of the features as I got it for Christmas. The digital zoom is a little confusing. Was very fuzzy at first. Had to change the setting from Automatic to Creative Automatic option. Once I figured that out I have had great luck with the pictures I'm taking. Having a great time with my new toy!

Great camera for Beginner DSLR users.

5 stars

First off let's say read the owners manual, tons of useful info. You can pick up photo tips online to help make pics better. Price could be a little lower but had all the features i was looking for love the auto focus but i suggest using it in manual mode don't rely on the auto focus even though it does work well. Solid body and easy to use camera, if you have not used a DLSR camera before this one is great for a beginner who doesn't want to spend tons of money and the 18 megapixels is really nice to get better pics than the point and shoot camera's out there.

Superb Entry-level DSLR

5 stars

My wife was tired of missing photographic opportunities with her point-and-shoot but didn't want to deal with my Canon 20D with multiple L-series lenses. We set out to find an alternative that would be able to capture images quickly, easily, and with respectable quality. We went to BestBuy to try out a number of Compact System cameras (Nikon 1, Sony NEX-5N, Olympus E-PM1, etc.). The Sony really had our attention with focus and shutter speeds nearing SLR performance, however the reported battery life left a lot to be desired. Although my wife was looking for a compact system, I managed to get her over to the true SLRs. She picked up the T3i, took several snaps, and was immediately sold. The focus and shutter speed were exactly what she wanted to grab those shots of our mischievous little boy. We have since travelled extensively with the camera, and continue to be delighted. Colors are crisp, images are sharp, and it's portable enough to keep in the diaper bag. The biggest disappointment with the camera is the focus speed while in LiveView (as slow to focus as older point-and-shoots). Second to that is the horrid lens focus sound picked up by the camera's internal mic when shooting video.

This is my first DSLR camera and I love it. It is a little bit pricy but really worth to buy if you like photograhy. I wish I could spend more time on figuring out how to use it in different modes but for right now it makes really nice pictures just using auto mode. Really happy with the purchase, everyone noticed difference on my pictures.

Great camera and LOVE IT. It takes a bit of time to learn, its not just a point and shoot but once you read some directions it it fun to use. I take way more pictures than I use to and would recommed it but remember to read the directions, I'm still learning a lot about it and have had it for 2 months. I wish I would of spent the money on a GREAT camera long ago.
